No thank you on signing a 32-year-old Andrew McCutchen to some ridiculous contract. His defense has already completely eroded. He just won't be able to play center field by then. So he's a corner outfielder for the duration of a presumably lengthy, exorbitant contract. His value on the bases is all but gone. He's been making less and less contact. He was a star, and probably still is. And the Pirates have been incredibly fortunate to have him for a long time, while he was a star. But he's already slowly falling off. And he's just not going to be a good value in 2019, let alone nearly a decade from now when that next contract might run out.

I love how we were pining for a Javy pinch hit in the 5th. And the offense is so good that we passed over Javy in another pinch hit opportunity, this time with the bases loaded, and yet we were still able to find one more opportunity for Javy to pinch hit with the bases loaded.

Also, though Kalish isn't exactly an elite contact guy, he isn't as boom or bust as Javy. All you need is someone to dink one in there like that to take the lead. Javy could have cleared the bases or went deep, but Kalish is a decent choice for some pixie dust magic.
