  1. Baseball is so weird and stupid. A week ago, a bunch of people wanted him sent down to Iowa, and most of the rest basically hated him. Now I want him in the lineup pretty much every single day.
  2. Trevor Cahill over his last 8 innings: 5 hits, 3 BB, 12 K, 0 runs.
  3. I'm still fuming. That first blown call wasn't even close. It was horrible. It missed its spot. There was no way any player is swinging at that junk. What's a guy supposed to do when you are calling that a strike?
  4. It seriously pisses me off when that happens to a young guy that is working on his plate discipline, trying to take the right approach at the plate, hoping to turn himself into a reliable hitter. Horrible. Disgusting. Infuriating. Give that man the walk that he rightfully earned.
  5. One strike the whole AB. Jorge lays off some low breaking balls that might be enticing for someone with his proclivities, and he gets rewarded with that. Unacceptable.
  6. Alright, we get some more chances at donging.
  7. Jorge Soler: Gorgeous Admirer of Majestic Dongs
  8. I wonder if they would look to piggy back him with someone if/when some of the rotation guys who are hurt start coming back. McCarthy will obviously be on a tight leash when he comes back so maybe him and Urias piggy back start for the season come July. That might be a really good idea. The main problem for them is this, though. There's really nothing they can do this year to have him ready to be a workhorse in the rotation next year, even. It's going to be a little frustrating for them trying to find a nice and steady routine for him while balancing all of their needs and concerns.
  9. Yeah, the extreme caution plus the surgery have compounded to leave them in a bit of a dilemma. The caution was probably fine for when he was, like, 17. No need to get too out of hand. But, last year his workload should have been ramped up and the surgery threw a wrench into those plans. So, now, he is nowhere near ready for a major league starter's workload. And he is unquestionably ready for the big leagues. And their big league club is scuffling and could use his help. Tough situation, juggling all of those concerns. Do you leave him in AAA? Call him and cut his season short eventually? Throw him in the big league pen?
  10. Wrigley being that pitcher friendly so far doesn't surprise me at all. We've only had the wind blowing out once or twice that I can remember, and it has been viciously howling in a number of times. Remember all those damn warning track flyouts that were smashed into the wind? Just wait until the wind starts blowing out and it gets really hot out, and balls start flying out of the park. The good news on that front is that our pitchers get the second most ground balls in the league and our hitters hit the third fewest ground balls in the league. We are going to reap the benefits of the wind eventually.
  11. And it sounds crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if a .310 BABIP is a little low for him. Yeah, especially with him changing his swing plane in order to get launch angles more conducive to hitting line drives -- which, he is hitting more line drives. A .378 BABIP was probably a bit of an aberration last year, considering how many fly balls he hit. I was expecting the following to happen, just based on his profile: BABIP goes down while HR/FB goes up. But, with the change in his swing, he might be able to maintain a .330+ BABIP, with how hard he hits it combined with his speed. His infield-hit% of 14.4% led the majors last year. A lot of people thought it was a little fluky and would come down. It's at 14.6% this year. Granted, small sample sizes and all. But he would appear to be one of those freaks that can maintain a high BABIP, because he does a lot of things really well when it comes to hitting.
  12. Hannemann homered, too. And Caratini is 1-1 with a double and a walk.
  13. The dongless prospects aren't as fun, or as good, for that matter, especially as a corner outfielder. But Mark Zagunis is now hitting .295/.410/.417 after doubling twice in his first two ABs tonight.
  14. Man that article is amazing! I personally loved the quote from Wong about having their pitcher's back...he booted a ball and killed a rally swinging 3-0. This is all just so glorious. Yes, but the important thing is that he was determined to kill a rally with his grit.
  15. Time for Edwards to be called up.
  16. Carl Edwards Jr.: 2IP 1H 0R 0BB 1K Gerardo Concepecion: 1IP 2H 1R 1BB 1K Filex Pena: 1.1IP 2H 0R 0BB 1K
  17. Yeah, I'm very excited for Cease and Hudson. Please save us all from our glut of uninspiring starting pitchers. Any reports from AZ Phil on Hudson's velocity?
  18. Gleyber finished 3-5, with the homer, 0 K, and 2 SB.
  19. That's 5 in 43 games this year, after having 5 in 176 games in his professional career entering this year.
  20. Kept the winnings streaks going, though. 20 straight decisions for him. 23 straight as a team when he starts. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1213616/netskid_medium.gif
