  1. That's loser talk Big time. Uncomfortable that a worse team than us is way behind us?
  2. That stuff about the Mariners pitch framing is interesting. I forgot they sucked at that without Zunino. It explains the discrepancy between his above average swing strike% and contact% and his pedestrian K%. Add in the Cubs' elite pitch framing and elite infield defense, and he looks like a great fit.
  3. I'm still down for trading for Chapman. Obviously, we got a young lefty pen arm that is controlled for awhile. So Miller's probably a no-go, especially considering the asking price. This was a big horsefeathers you to Cashman and his demands. But, he might come crawling back once they start floating Chapman's name about. Toss him some leftover Candelario-type pieces and see if he bites.
  4. Well, he was getting told that he gets to leave Iowa to go play in the major leagues, so I'm sure he wasn't too upset. DSM Iowa is a nicer city than Tacoma and it ain't close (sorry tiger). But losing the chance to play with the Cubs in September and be around for all the glory years is what I meant. It's not likely he's going to the 90s Yankees or something. The Ms suck. It was a baseless drive-by on Iowa on my part. My brother lives in Des Moines. I like it a lot.
  5. I found footage of Brian Cashman, when Theo called him to break the news:
  6. Montgomery induces a metric horsefeathers ton of ground balls, too. I think he'll enjoy pitching in front of our infield.

  8. For everyone that realizes that Vogelbach is a fat DH who has only shown power once he got to the Pacific Coast League, a big, youngish lefty arm that was once one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, that can flip back and forth from the pen and start maybe, with tons of years of control left... it's a nice return. I would gamble there is a very significant chance he's tried out as a starter to start 2017. I would hope that would be our intent, given that we chose to trade for him. Obviously, they like something about him. The pen is always a fall back, too, though. And that's fine, too. If he were able to start for us, then this is a home run. If it's not, then, oh well, as long as he is a solid long-term pen option, we made out alright. But, yeah, it seems like what was mentioned in that Fangraphs piece. He's a guy to help the pen this year, but has control and starting aspirations in the future.
  9. I'm sure Cashman will find another 50 home run hitter from some other team.
  10. Tough luck for Fat Boy to be sent to the hitting paradise known as Safeco Field.

  12. I've seen talk about them dealing Cishek maybe. I can't think of much else that makes sense.
  13. Yes, I would have the same response. And it's not to say he hasn't been bad. Clearly, he has. But, to be hung up on it is silly, when the underlying numbers say he's been about the same all year, and he's just been incredibly streaky. Yeah that's fair, and your response above makes sense. If it can be explained away by mostly luck, it doesn't provide much. It's not even so much that it is just bad luck. I think he's had problems. It's just that guys go through this horsefeathers. It wasn't my intent to say that his last month or two doesn't mean anything. It does. He hasn't hit. So that's bad. My intent was to show, "Hey, even Anthony Rizzo (possibly the best hitter in all of baseball) goes through this horsefeathers sometimes. So let's not dwell on it too much.
  14. Now to pick on you, but just so you know, I'm sure at some point in May you were posting something like this about Anthony Rizzo. So that kinda shows why arbitrary endpoints are stupid, and why people think you are too obsessed with them. Out of curiosity, since you're better at this than I am, if he would have gone with 'Zobrist is hitting some terrible batting average over the last 150 (or whatever the number is) PAs'....would you have the same comment? I get that picking a random date, even the beginning/end of month, can lead to a lot of false/cherry picked conclusions, but at a certain point you have to acknowledge that it's 6 or 7 weeks of bad performance, right? Yes, I would have the same response. And it's not to say he hasn't been bad. Clearly, he has. So that kinda shows why arbitrary endpoints are stupid, and why people think you are too obsessed with them. to be fair, even while Rizzo was sub-Mendoza Line, he was still OPSing like .900 Yeah, I know. And I'm not saying Ben Zobrist hasn't been bad. He has been. But all his periphs look fine -- his BB and K rates, his hard- and soft-hit rates, and his line drive, ground ball, and fly ball rates. It's just that he went from a .432 BABIP in May to a .050 BABIP in July. It just shows why arbitrary endpoints are stupid. He had an incredible May and a putrid July. But, he's not really a different player. It's just baseball.
