  1. Since coming back, Jorge's made contact on 87.5% of his swings (21/24).
  2. Dammit. He's safe. That was amazing, though. horsefeathers it, call him out.
  3. Maybe then Miggy won't have the worst arm in baseball.
  4. If you think we are suffering in our wait for this game, just imagine how much this has to suck for Jered Weaver, knowing what is awaiting him.
  5. New market inefficiency: Call up pitchers and have them get completely shelled to the point that no other team in their right mind would want them, so you can pass them through waivers.
  6. Without knowing the answer or ever seeing if anyone has studied such a thing, I wonder if Pythag might have a tough time measuring teams that are truly elite -- teams that are at or nearing +300 or so RD. When it measures teams that are all fairly close to .500, it should work fine. But, when you get to the extremes -- a team that scores way more runs or allows way less runs -- then there is more room for variance. If all you have to do is lose 50 games to be below your Pythag, then just a few slip-ups here or there can throw you way off. So variance becomes a bigger factor.
  7. The only bad thing about facing horrible starting pitchers is that we only get to face them for 2 or 3 innings. Weaver would be best off to fake an injury before facing us, unlike Sonny Gray who waited until we were in the midst of laying waste to him.
  8. lol... no it's not. Really? What a weak response. And disrespectful. I would have expected better from you. The potential consequence of being swept in that series -- which is very unlikely in itself -- is that we would still have something around a 6-8 win lead or so. That's still a huge lead. So much else would have to happen even after this apocalyptic event that it is silly to worry about it. The consequences of that one particular series are infinitesimal.
  9. Then what else is pointing out it "started" with a sweep by the Cardinals supposed to mean? If you're pointing out that it simply coincided with that series, then hey, we agree, but then it's a redundant point to make in the first place. By making it sound like you're worried about the Cubs facing them again, you sure seem to be placing a ton of weight on that sweep having something to do with them struggling for a while after that. Well, it certainly correlates in my mind. High point of season, 27 games over, 12.5 up in division, then get swept. It's a reminder that things can turn around quickly as they did in that case. A four game sweep could cut the lead right back down to 6.5 and that would be worrisome. It's definitely a series with high potential consequences. lol... no it's not.
  10. Kyle is a damn machine. I seriously think he might end the year with a sub-2.00 ERA. He's legitimately entering the Cy Young conversation.
  11. Will feel better after that Cardinals series next week. What!? We are 11 up on them and we are the vastly superior team. It's over. Even if they sweep us, they will be like 8 games back with 45 games left.
  12. I know the rule. But he wasn't outside the baseline until right at the base. It's a stupid rule. He stepped right in front of the throw. He should be out. The throw was in his line to the base. It's not like he wasn't running toward the base. He was running straight through the base. This wasn't the case of a guy running into the outfield grass to avoid a tag or something like that.
  13. He was running outside the baseline therefore he's out. I know the rule. But he wasn't outside the baseline until right at the base. It's a stupid rule.
  14. I'd like to echo these these sentiments about The Logan. He's killing it with great game thread posts, and the Cubs are rolling.
  15. I hope Kyle pitches well, because I am still planning on a Kyle Hendricks article. But I've been busy and it got delayed. I've worked on it a little and it will be a mega two-part article. And, well, I don't want to have egg on my face from releasing it following a bad outing. It's not like it's possible for this guy to have a bad outing, though, so what am I even talking about?
