  1. I still want +300, because that looked inevitable at one point before things went to horsefeathers before the All-Star break. That looks difficult to obtain now. We're going to need a few +10 RD games. Hopefully the Reds and Brewers oblige.
  2. Rizzo is ridiculous, too. It's hilarious that, despite having Addi, Javy, and Heyward on the team, Rizzo's made my two favorite defensive plays in the last two years.
  3. What's the name of that subreddit tracking long dongs? I would search for it, but I might be taken aback by the results. Anyway, the Javy Dong better be on there.
  4. Looks like the Cubs' version of Adam Warren reared its ugly head tonight.
  5. Yeah, I'm fine with looking at things such as clutch scores or WPA for MVP. They aren't really good stats and have little to no predictive value. But, if we are looking at what a specific player accomplished in a single year, I'm more than fine with it. There's a lot of luck involved in that stuff, but there's luck involved in nearly everything. If a player slugs his way to 55 home runs, we aren't going to hold it against him that he did it by running a 33% HR/FB rate, which most certainly isn't sustainable. He had a fair amount of luck involved in putting together such a great season. It's nearly impossible to strip luck out of every stat. So, yeah, WPA can tell us a lot about a player's production in a specific season. But, we have to make sure we are looking at the whole picture, and not just some random 11 PA sample.
  6. Maybe they could build a wall to block Papelbon out of our dance parties and have the Cardinals pay for it.
  7. I'd be fine with signing him. Like others have said, he has to be better than Joe Smith. And I do wonder if some of his results this year, especially lately, can be attributed to him not being in the right frame of mind. He and Washington just didn't work out well. And I wonder if he was phoning it in. Not that such a person would be a great addition to our team. But, I think the circumstances are different here. We have nothing invested in him. And we can make that be known: "Pull any horsefeathers and you are gone." And we have Lester to maybe make him aware of what is expected from him and help keep him in line. You are to be a fly on the wall. Shut up and pitch. And don't even speak to Bryzzo unless spoken to.
  8. In hindsight, clearly. Rondon wasn't ready to go today. And it would have be nice to work him in during a lower leverage spot. But, at the same time, we were currently playing the Cardinals. And we were leading and it was late. Really, it would have been better off if he was coming back at a different time. But if you think he's ready and you're in that spot, it's hard to say, "Well, maybe we'll just wait until sometime in the next series."
  9. We peaked at 95.6%: http://www.fangraphs.com/livewins.aspx?date=2016-08-14&team=Cubs&dh=0&season=2016 Losing doesn't bother me, but multiple improbabilities coming together to make us lose irk me. What are you harping on? Pretty much everything that happens in a baseball game is an improbability until it happens. If we are looking at any at bat, it's improbable that the hitter hits a home run. It's also improbable that the pitcher strikes him out. But strikeouts and home runs do happen. This wasn't some weird game or something. You always think weird things happen, when, in reality, it's just baseball that happens. You always complain about improbabilities and how "I know that that's going to happen sometimes, but why does it happen to us!?" It happens. Get used to it.
  10. Ok, I'm back on board the "We're winning this game" train. Jorge owns these fools. Just get on, Willie.
  11. Mike Wilbon gets paid to write and talk about sports. Shudder.
  12. I thought there was almost no chance Javy would get a hit there. Oh is a terrible matchup for him.
  13. I have to read this to myself a bunch and take some deep breaths. These last two games don't matter at all. Splitting the series is all the work we needed to do. Blowing 2 two run leads in a row really sucks though. It really, really sucks. I get it. I'm annoyed as hell too. Sucks to get great starting pitching 4 straight nights only to blow 2 late leads and split the series If we get two run leads every single game, like we have for, oh, two straight weeks, eventually you are going to blow some. You are going to hold on a lot more often. But it happens. Our losses are going to be more devastating, because we are so good. We just don't get pummeled (except for that weird stretch pre-All Star Break). So nearly all of our losses are going to seem like games we should have won -- because we should have, since we are awesome.
  14. hopefully you'll also skip posting in these game threads. This is very original and not at all getting grating. Grating. Seems like a good word to describe something else I am thinking of, but I can't put my finger on it.
  15. You do understand the pixie dust thing is just a meme and not real, correct? You new to this whole Cardinals thing? You do remember when a worse Cubs team hammered a better Cards team in the playoffs, just last year, right?
  16. I think Hector might be a little rusty.
  17. Travis Wood takes better routes in left than Coghlan.
