  1. Oh yeah. This is going to take Howard off the hook. I don't think that Pujols will get to negative WAR for the entirety of the deal but there's a non zero chance it happens. Josh Hamilton's 5/$123m and 3.1 WAR look like a classic moneyball deal compared to Howard and Pujols. Arte Moreno is the best. For expected WAR to actual WAR, it will probably blow Howard out of the water. The last five years will basically be on par with Howard's. And tack on another five years at the start that he severely underperformed.

  3. Ryan Howard. 5 year extension, $125 million, in 2012 money. -2.2 WAR.
  4. He did bring in all of his top relievers in the middle of the game. Not many people are getting to Britton. Other than Britton, I know nothing about the Orioles' bullpen, so yeah maybe it was some quality guys going against us. Which then wouldn't be so bad. The back of their pen is really solid, with Britton back now. The rest of the pen is horrible, and they've had trouble even filling it out. They threw all the good ones tonight, though. ERAs: 1.38, 3.77, 2.20, 2.08, 2.75. The 3.77 is O'Day, who has a sub-3 FIP and has been really good in the past. If we didn't horsefeathers the bed in the 5th, we probably score 15 runs.
  5. Quality take. Part of me feels like maybe they woke up for two innings against a clearly struggling pitcher and then went back to bed for the next seven innings, but can't afford to worry about that right now. Need wins and will take them however they have to come. He did bring in all of his top relievers in the middle of the game. Not many people are getting to Britton.
  6. More good than bad tonight. A bunch of slumbering bats woke up. The pen had an off night, but they've been really solid. And we don't have to rely on Monty as much, since he's no longer, like, our second-best pitcher. The dongs are very welcome, though.
  7. It appears that we killed Chapman.
  8. Holy horsefeathers, if he would have turned that...
  9. I bet they sucked while scoring those 8 runs to get them 10 games over .500 though They did.
  10. How far back are we of getting home-field advantage throughout the playoffs?
  11. SuperCubs are back. Just need to start the second-half, like every year.
  12. Uh, yeah; he was busted when Michael Skarn's IP matched HendrysWallet and PetermanRealityTour. NOT SKARN TOO Please tell me Bert Macklin is innocent in all this I'd like to take this moment to assure everyone that Duke Silver doesn't have a secret identity.
  13. Should be tomorrow. is therr any doubt that he's our #1? Particularly given Theo's comments today. Talk these other guys up non-stop, Theo. Perfect time to drum up value on some lesser prospects. "Oh, we love Hatch and Alzolay. We think they both have very bright futures with this organization. Two top-of-the-rotation starters." Sometimes it can actually be beneficial to not have elite prospects -- depending on who you are going after. If a team like the Yankees last year get fixated on a guy like Schwarber, it's hard to get them off that path. They'll simply refuse to look at anyone else. Then, some team with a shitty farm will swoop in and be like, "Sure, you can have whatever you want. Choose any three guys." It's a lot easier to deal when you really don't care who you give up.
  14. and he tried scamming the HR Derby contest http://i.imgur.com/uv5VX0g.gif
  15. Eddy Martinez is still hot, too. 2-2 with a homer and a walk.
