I'm sure they are going over the top, but he's not really and never has been a good defender. We tapped in to re-positioning him to not be awful and maximize what he can be, but the reality is he isn't a very good fielder and has an awful arm and probably should be a left fielder. Dexter appears to be drifting back up this year. Of players that played at least 5,000 pitches in center last year (filtered by away games, to try to avoid any home field bias), Dexter was 10th deepest out of 43 with an average starting position of 321 feet. Of 51 players with at least 2,500 pitches in center this year (with the same away filter), he's 32nd deepest at 317 feet.
