That said, I could see the Cubs doing this to non-Cubs beat writers who are planning to do Russell pieces, like Nightengale.

The only reason why this might not be true, is I have a hard time believing somebody like Gordon wouldn't love the opportunity to bury them if he and his other colleagues were told what to write and what not to write. I also don't think guys like Bruce would stay quiet about it. I, of course, don't put it past the Ricketts to try something like this, because they do seem to be a family of idiots.

He really, really was. I didn't think hitting coaches mattered that much, but he's sure making me think they somehow do. Or they don't, but he's just the one really bad exception.

Even if the Cubs don't come back and win, taking two of three from what some can argue is the best team in the National League is real solid.

I can't disagree with anything you said. That said, I always look at the bigger factors. Meaning, the Cubs haven't scored a run. Had you given me the Dodgers scoring two runs this game, I would have locked that in and taken it and felt we had a nice chance to win.
