  1. Don't they have Daryle Ward to play 1B? Or has he left?
  2. Maybe, with regard to management, it's time for Andy MacPhail to go.
  3. The Cubs DON'T NEED A SOLUTION at first. What they need is somebody who play the position well-enough say.....260/.330/.440 with some power, and provide solid D---not a guy who would replace Lee. Hoffpair or Sing COULD surprise people if given the opportunity. Giving them an opportunity is better then letting another organization try and rip you off. The key word is COULD and I'm glad you capitalized it! Are you willing to put a good portion of this season in the hands of one or two guys who COULD surprise people? I'd rather put my faith, at this point, in someone who's already proven he can get the job done! I'm not sure Hoffpauir, Sing, or even Brian Dopirak can get the job done. Well. considering the current landscape for the Cubs offense...Clark is not going to help the Cubs, anymore then Hoffpauir or Sing. Why give up a cheap pitcher for Clark? First, Clark will help the Cubs, if he would okay a trade, because he has ML experience, and hit 30 HR's last year as a major leaguer. Hoffpauir and Sing have no discernible ML experience, other than Spring Training. Also, the Cubs are going to have to give up something of worth to get a 1Bman. They have a need, and other teams are going to make them pay. Besides, Tony Clark may be a moot point anyway. I heard earlier on the Score that the Cubs were talking to Baltimore for either Jeff Conine or Kevin Millar.
  4. If only he was an effective pinch hitter. .123/.247/.200 makes Jose Macias look like Bonds. 123/247/200 as a ph in 63 at bats 253/361/463 as not a ph in 802 at bats does it really make sense to go ahead and decide he's not a good pinch hitter based on these limited numbers? Maybe not, but what is there to show he can be an asset off the bench other then assuming he can? He may improve at it with experience, but do we want to provide him with it? his career numbers show that he'd likely be an asset of the bench. No thanks. Been there, done that.

  6. He hit .253 last year with the Dodgers, so I think its reasonable to assume he would be capable of that again. Besides, his OBP is his key number. Why are we talking about playing Choi every day? When D. Lee comes back, he will be playing every day. What we would need would be someone who can play first base sometimes, and possibly play other positions as well. Or come off the bench to pinch hit, etc,...I would much rather have Cuddyer for the first reason (he can play OF as well as 1b), or would prefer Clark backing up 1b for the second reason. (pinch hitting.) Besides, we've already tried Choi, and wasn't the answer.
  7. Hey Vance! Love your sig! Okay, I know this post has nothing to do with the thread! Yada, yadda, yadda!
  8. I noticed in the Sporting News that the Rangers... "might part with a pair of All-Stars, second baseman Alfonso Soriano and third baseman Hank Blalock, as it seeks pitching." I realize we have Aramis Ramirez, but wouldn't Blalock be an upgrade? His defense is a bit better than Aramis', and he hits for left-handed power. I know we have other needs, but could he be added along with, say, Mench or Soriano, who would fill a need?
  9. That's quite a stretch. By the same logic, if the man she attacked wasn't an athlete, Mrs. Bradley could be charged with the same. But nothing in those reports even comes close to attempted murder. Choking isn't attempted murder? Then say assault and battery. And allegedly both were involved. Since I'm not looking to trade for Mrs. Bradley, and Mr. Bradley is the one we're considering, I don't want him.
  10. It sounds like they're quite the disfunctional couple. Probably some blame to go on both sides. Bradley is certainly no angel, but it's possible he isn't as bad as he's been villified to be. I don't know. Why take a chance on him? I'd rather have Mench in RF, and I don't want Mench! And I'd REALLY rather have Pierre in CF. Y'all can have Bradley, just don't bring him to Wrigley Field in Cubbie blue.
  11. I totally agree CardsFan. Who cares how cheap he is? Some things are more important. We're talking physically abusing his wife. He needs serious help. John
  12. I agree that due dilligence is definitely necessary, but Im not sure if negative feedback would deter me. Remember, Bradley will cost us next to nothing in terms of players and very little in terms of salary. There has never been any racial problems on the team (besides reverse racism by dusty). He is about to have his first child and that often has calming affects on disgruntled young males. Who cares how much he costs you? If the man wasn't an athlete, he would've probably been charged with attempted murder!!! John
  13. passion and fire? among other brutally violent episodes, the guy tried to choke his pregnant wife. i think you are confusing psychosis with passion. if he were not a pro baseball player they would have locked him up and thrown away the key long ago. Good point. Amazing what a guy that can play a sport well can get away with. If there is truth to this story, then I don't want him. Its one thing to fight with a teammate (or even to chuck a bottle at a guy who is probably insulting your mother). Its another thing to choke your pregnant wife. That's not ok, and I really do not care how high his OBP is. I totally agree, RynoRules! John
  14. I've probably missed it, but based on your stance on a couple other players, I have to ask... who exactly DO you want? Adam Dunn Wilkerson Bradley Marcus Giles Coco Crisp pitchers: zito/burnett/beckett (i.e. another front line starter) howry I realize we're probably not going to get any of these players. I just don't get the desire for Bradley. And I certainly wouldn't give up Pie for him. Abreu has a good arm...does Bradley? He can hit 40+ HR's...can Bradley? Bradley has speed, but there are plenty of other guys out there I'd rather have than Bradley. I would certainly give up Pie for Abreu, Dunn, Ichiro, M. Giles, Zito, Beckett, and maybe a few others.
  15. Mostly, it's what I've heard or read about him in the media. Not that the media are always to be believed. Mostly, yes, it's his behavior. I wish I knew more about his offensive/defensive skills, but mostly, it's his behavior that scares me away from him. I guess it could be situational, but why take the chance on him being disruptive?
  16. To this I say, who cares? I don't. I really don't want Milton Bradley on the Cubs. I don't care how good Dusty is supposedly is in keeping the peace. I don't want Milton Bradley on the Cubs!!!!
  17. Look at 2004, though. We had a team full of head-cases and look what happened to the team. Although I would've liked to have kept Moises.
  18. Let's just forget about trading with LA. I wouldn't want Bradley (offensive numbers notwithstanding), Choi, or Kent. I'd rather have Drew, but his injury problems would concern me. Not as much as Bradley's erratic behavior, though.
  19. The difference is that the upgrade from what we have in CF to Bradley would be much greater than the upgrade from Walker to Kent. Based on that alone, it would be better to get Bradley than Kent. And just as people want to criticize Walker's defense, Kent is just as poor defensively. But Kent's offensive numbers are far greater than Walker's. Bradley is a total nutcase, he will not be a Cub. Why all the love here for a constant malcontent like Milton Bradley? Milton Bradley is the last thing this team needs. I agree oldcubsfan! Bradley is a head case! Why would we want him? Didn't we have enough problems with problem children in 2004? We don't want the game maker on this team at all!
  20. Yes I was, and I was surprised to see another Cheesehead Cubs Fan on the message board.
