  1. Thoughts? Ryan Theriot is not a middle-of-the-lineup hitter. Well of the current everyday starters, I don't see why not. If Soto wasn't hurt I would have put him 6th instead of Theriot.
  2. Just wanted to see what lineup you guys would like to see the Cubs go with. Mine would be: 1. Kosuke Fukudome 2. Milton Bradley 3. Derrek Lee 4. Aramis Ramirez 5. Alfonso Soriano 6. Ryan Theriot 7. Mike Fontenot 8. Koyie Hill Thoughts?
  3. Yep, pretty much the same pattern he fell into last season. I didn't want this to happen and wanted to be proven wrong (and I still hope I am), but this is not surprising to me in the least. At the very least, I just hope he can keep has average at a steady .260 because at least he would still be getting on base around 36% of the time.
  4. Well, let's see where he is after a month. We've only played 4 games up to this point so let's not go overboard quite yet.
  5. Theriot is a lot better than Fontenot against left-handers which is why he got the 2 spot and Fontenot was moved down to 8th against one: Theriot career against left-handers: .303/.395/.422 Fontenot career against left-handers: .247/.313/.370 It was a big step for Lou to put Fontenot in the lineup at all against a left-hander. He certainly shouldn't put him any higher than 8th against one (or maybe 7th if Hill is playing). Oh ok, I didn't know that. Fair point.
  6. Dammit Cubs! You ruined a perfectly great career! Not only that, but you're also responsible for global warming! Shame on you!
  7. I worry about what goes on in Lou's mind. Batting Theriot 2nd and Fontenot last 8th? I mean wth; I also worry about Fukudome, but I started worrying about him way before the season started.
  8. I didn't like the fact that Theriot batted 2nd and Fontenot batted 8th. I thought that should have been reversed. Let's just hope we can win tonight and take 2 out of 3.
  9. Cotts is the freakin' man. Comes in with 2 on and nobody out and saves the game for us. Gotta love it.
  10. And now Bradley's hurt is ankle. I hope this isn't serious.
  11. Just like I thought, Kosuke stinkin' it up in the 2 hole...
  12. Great to see Big Z has settled down. Let's just hold this lead now.
  13. I was scared that was gonna drop and Matsui would have scored, but turned out to be an inning ending double play. Sweet.
  14. Great way start to the season with that blast Soriano put in the seats.
  15. Ok, just curious after the proven closer comment. I actually preferred Gregg winning the job as well, but it was purely because I thought Marmol was the better pitcher and would serve the team better in the more precarious situations. Yeah, I can understand. The main reason I was happy Gregg won the closer's job was mainly because 1) He's been successful the last 2 season's as a closer in Florida and 2) I'm one of the people who's not completely sure if Marmol would be a successful closer. I mean the guy deserves the chance to prove to us he can close and I'm sure he will get that chance soon, but a few things that worried me were that he did blow the elimination game against the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic and he's hit 5 batters in 8 innings this Spring Training so I'm wondering how good his control is at the moment. Keep in mind I haven't seen much of him in Spring training. But at the moment, I think the Cubs will be fine with Gregg as their closer and as long as he's successful (which I think he will be), the Cubs will be fine.
  16. As a matter of fact, I did.
  17. I just didn't see the need to bring up Bob Howry in this. A guy who has 66 saves and about 30 blown saves in his career. It's hard to imagine that guy as your closer. You can't even compare him to Gregg. Gregg's a guy who has about the same amount of saves Howry has and he's only blown half the saves Howry has.
  18. You do realize that if the phrase "proven closer" actually meant anything, we'd have started the 2008 season with Bob Howry closing games, right? So now you want to compare a guy who's had 61 saves in the last 2 years to a guy who's had 66 saves in the past 11 years? Interesting.
  19. I'm glad Gregg won the closers spot. He's a proven closer unlike Marmol. I love Marmol, but he'll get a chance next spring training to be the closer.
  20. The Cubs win at least 1 playoff game.
  21. I think people are going to be really, unpleasantly surprised about his inability to be an everyday player by about mid-June. I'm assuming you're psychic. Even if it doesn't work out, just make a change... Change to who? Good offensive second basemen aren't plentiful. I think Fontenot will be ok (but not as good as DeRosa), but I worry about the many at bats we'll be giving Aaron Miles. I'm guessing this is the only post you've read of mine on this page. I've been defending Fontenot from the start while other people were defending Kosuke and saying he should hit 2nd. What I mean is if Fontenot isn't producing out of the 2 spot and if Kouske is producing wihle hitting in another spot, you could go ahead and insert Kouske there. And if somehow, neither one of them can get the job done in the 2 hole, you can always rearange the lineup. I know that sounds easier than it actually is, but it can be done. But I do agree with you, as of right now, I'd like Fonetnot to bat 2nd in the lineup.
  22. I think people are going to be really, unpleasantly surprised about his inability to be an everyday player by about mid-June. I'm assuming you're psychic. Even if it doesn't work out, just make a change...
  23. I just pray he doesn't turn into Antonio Alfonseca 2.0.
  24. Why does Kosuke deserve to hit in the 2 spot more than Fontenot? Fontenot hit one less home run than Kosuke in half the at-bats and only had 17 less rbi's. Just because Kosuke faded more and more as the season went on doesn't mean Fontenot will. And like I mentioned already, what exactly did Kosuke do in the 2 hole last year to warrant he deserves to hit in that spot? I mean he had about 80 at-bats to prove he deserved the spot. Let's keep in mind he's no spring chicken as well. He's gonna be 32 years old at the end of April.
  25. So Fukudome's career batting average is going to be locked in at .257 now? Batting average doesn't really mean a whole heckuva lot. There are other more important things. Sorry, maybe I should have cleared that up. How do we know if Fukudome's batting average is going to be significantly than than .257? How do we know hit stats are going to be significantly better than last years? We don't. Now in my personal opionion, I do think Kosuke will have a better season this year than he did last year, but that doesn't neccissarily mean that he will. He still needs to go out there and prove he can hit for more than 2 months. BTW, didn't they try him in the #2 hole for some time last year and he ended up hitting about .150? I mean Fontenot didn't exactly hit the cover off the ball, but his average was way above .150 and Kosuke hit in the 2 hole twice as much as Fontenot did last season.
