  1. I imagine the counter argument is at least that’s action on the field as opposed to pitching changes and mound visits Absolutely. But it being sold as being a time saving measure I think is a bit disingenuous and also like all these other rules at best were talking a couple minutes a game at best.
  2. I feel like the three batter minimum rule is going to make just as many games run longer (reliever comes in and gets bombed/has to wear it and/or another one has to come in and clean it up, etc) as it will help make games get done 5-10 minutes sooner.

  4. Huh Descalso is owed $2.5 million this year and $1 million buyout in 2021. I can't see PTR eating $3.5 million while we're still over the LT. Just look at it like paying Kipnis $4 mil or so and be done with it.
  5. Yeah, things sound like they must have been great between Joe and Theo/FO for the last year+
  6. Oh well. Love that Almora just gets handed a roster spot out of spring completely undeserved two years in a row with no competition brought in.
  7. Does she still not work for NBC for Bulls stuff? Hero twitter bio says so and that she still works for them for Cubs stuff, which maybe they’ll keep her as a presence for Cubs reporting during the year?
  8. His LD, Flyball and hard contact rates all jumped over his career numbers during that period and GB rate dropped below his career numbers too. Also appears he took 4 games off the week before. So maybe he finally felt healthy and/or tweaked something and it clicked.
  9. I don’t like this specific proposal but don’t mind the general direction. I think I’d prefer to add 1 team to the playoffs in each league, top 2 division winners record wise get byes. Then there’s 2 WC games or rounds in each league (I’m fine doing best of 3 or 1 game), make the DS best of 7 then too. Shorten season to ~145 games to allow for longer playoffs and build in a few extra off days to regular season too.
  10. Really good contact rate, 113 career wRC+ vs RHP (though only in the 90s last 3 years). It’s mostly just a depth/platoon move. Like it a lot more if it’s to knock Descalso off the roster.
  11. Sounds like it’s happening. Fine depth move, like it more if it’s to replace Descalso more than in addition to him on the 26-man. Career 113 wRC+ vs RHP, really good contact rates (80%+ in every recent year and for career), don’t mind him being in the 2B mix with Bote and Nico.
  12. Deciding to lead off the guy with a career .373 OBP, coming off a season he was over .400, and is 8th in MLB in OBP since 2014 doesn’t seem like a gut feeling. If it is, it’s at least a better feel than running Almora, Kemp, Descalso, etc out there at leadoff. yeah, to me we have a bunch of dudes i'd be fine with (on numbers alone) doing it, and there's definitely no justification for throwing actual terrible hitters there. the only wildcard to me is how the individual player reacts to it. heyward and schwarber might be totally fine there or might have totally been in their own heads about it (i believe both have said as much) - but we know rizzo embraces it. Yeah that’s the other thing, at worst Rizzo seems indifferent about it and at best he seems to embrace it. We know Heyward doesn’t like it and KB has said he doesn’t or wouldn’t like it either. Schwarber and Happ had their chances and either let it get to their heads and/or just sucked. Willy vs LHP I don’t mind as an option either, but the numbers suggest along with every subjective thing we know that it should just be Rizzo.

  14. I 1 million percent endorse this. It makes the most sense and he’s the most logical option and it stops the nonsense narratives around the lead off spot. Optimistic this is indicative they’re gonna run thing by the numbers a bit more and not Joe’s “gut feelings.”
  15. PECOTA and BP are complete dog horsefeathers
  16. Yeah now that they got Lagares so much for that idea. I’d still be willing to send the Padres a little something so we could use Megill’s options. Maybe they’ll still dump Almora and add Pillar. Lagares only took $1.4 million to sign, Pillar might not take much more than $2 million. So it might only take $500k-$1 million more than what Almora is making for that upgrade if they just trade Almora off or cut him.
  17. The theory is they may have the availability to trade Chatwood's full contract if the right combination of circumstances strike during ST. The Bryant stuff has never made any coherent sense to begin with, everyone in the org should be ashamed at how this winter has transpired, regardless of what restrictions they have. I just don’t see a lot of teams with 13M lying around for a 5th starter. I know ST hasn’t started yet, but you still have Cashner, Vargas, Millone, and McHugh out there for a hell of a lot less money Yeah I don’t see a team eating all $13 million unless we throw in a solid prospect and/or a team has catastrophic pitching losses in spring. I think if we threw in a Giambrone/Short type prospect and $4-7 mil we could save $6-9 million though and I think that’s a realistic trade that’s out there.
  18. Do it. Megill has three minor league options left so we could use those if we do the trade and it helps make the bullpen more flexible.
  19. If they’re still trying to move him, for some reason, I’d have quite a bit of interest in Stripling. Also if they’re trying to shed money, a package of Pollock and Stripling would be something that interests me. Both would fit the roster well. Though obviously we’re crying poor too. Q or Charwood would likely have to be moved in a separate deal.
  20. Bryant is better than like 5-6 of those guys, what a joke.
