The only 2 things I can remember from Pierre are the weak groundouts to the right side every other AB and thinking we'd have Furcal batting behind him at the top of the order.
So do you think it's bold or is it as much of a no-brainer as you're arguing it to be? Either way, nope, not happening. And I counter that they'd look like short sighted idiots (SSR is going to get mad at this post) if they broke camp with him. I think maybe, if Boras wasn't his agent they might give it a second thought. What's the precedent for a team breaking camp with a guy with the prospect status of Bryant and forgoing holding him down to gain the year of FA? Has it ever happened?
I fully expect them to give him a chance to stick at 3B once he comes up, part of this is just giving them reasons not to have him break camp since they can't come out and explicitly say the only reason he's starting in AAA is to get the extra year of control. Also it's ST so they might as well do some due diligence to see how he looks in the OF.
So who are the top players for this coming signing period that we will presumably be battling the Dodgers for? That pitcher Alvarez, who are the better hitters? Maitan is still a year a way and in the next period, right, not this coming one in July?
Living in Wisconsin my Bucks fan friends love the trade for some reason, they keep citing the age and team control of MCW. MCW and Knight are the same age and they don't seem to understand MCW is pretty terrible. He has the 116 best FG% of the 119 qualified players.
'73 Braves(Johnson, Evans, Aaron), '96 Rockies(Galarraga, Castilla, Burks), '97 Rockies(Galarraga, Castilla, Walker) Ok, so it is doable. If PED's are allowed or Wrigley suddenly becomes mid 90's Coors Field
The Thunder-Nets are trading Reggie Jackson for Brook Lopez, there may be a 3rd team involved and it likely involves Jarrett Jack going to the 3rd team.
~175 is probably realistic, the below is my best guess and even a bit optimistic on some and it's at 185. Rizzo- 30 Soler- 30 Bryant- 25 Baez- 25 Castro- 15 Fowler- 10 LF- 15 C- 20 Other- 15
I know technically it's not how it works (the votes for the winner of #2 could all be allocated towards someone other than the loser for the #3 vote) , but should the loser of Soler-Russell vote just be given the #3 prospect rank to help speed things up? Just a thought, don't really care. It seems pretty clear we have a defined top 3.
Like that trade a lot for Portland, they needed another guy who could shoot. Lillard-Afflalo/Matthews-Batum-Aldrigde-Lopez with 1 of Afflalo/Matthews coming of the bench is a nice 6 man rotation come playoffs. Also this is like Thomas Robinson's 3rd or 4th team already, isn't it?
Soler was my pick, though Russell may be the more valuable player down the road and at a premium position Soler already being in the majors and looking good in his time up last year gives him the edge for me.
Rafael Soriano is still a FA, is he hurt or asking for crazy money or something? He put up good numbers last year, not that I want us to sign him but I'm surprised nobody has yet.
