  1. Jake shaved the beard
  2. Some candidates: Enny Romero (LHP, Rays): Former top prospect, former starter, averaged 96+ on the fastball this year, ~25% K rate this year, ~13% swinging strikes, ~10% whiffs on fastball/23% on curve/20% on cutter, clean arm Sean Newcomb (LHP, Braves, AA) - Top prospect, command and control issues as a starter, clean and power arm, lots of Ks, stingy with the hits and HRs Joe Kelly (RHP, Red Sox) - 97+ on the fastball, ~11% whiffs on the fastball, clean arm Michael Lorenzen (RHP, Reds) Tony Cingrani (LHP, Reds) Alex Meyer (RHP, Angels) I've liked Romero as a change-of-scenery reliever for a while now, even if not the Cubs. Newcomb probably does not have the command and control to start in the long run. Kelly's fastball can be excellent, he is capable of piling up GBs, the Red Sox might finally be keeping him in releif. I'm sure there's plenty more candidates out there. Some other guys I like/have interest in them as a starter turning into a bullpen role..... I've mentioned Holland a few times but he's definitely one, Cashern, Bud Norris, Wily Peralta, Jimmy Nelson, Chad Bettis, and Martin Perez are others who are kinda okay starters, have had flashes but nothing sustained but still have good stuff that I'd be interested in trying to convert.
  3. I like the cut of your jib
  4. I have no interest in trading Hammel unless they are blown away by an offer. He's good, cheap for what he provides and fills an important role and moving him would really hurt our already thin SP depth. We shouldn't go into the year with just Zastrynzy as our only SP depth just like we shouldn't go into the year with Javy/Almora being the guys taking the ABs that need to be taken up with losing Fowler as plan A.
  5. Montero gone. Lackey gone. Arrieta gone. Zobrist just about gone. Those first 3 will clear up about 40M. Hammel's another $10 mil gone and a new TV deal will be coming around then too. Also, Jeffh we aren't horsefeathering poor people. We're going to be able to afford things on top of Russell/Bryant/etc won't even be making big money in 2018 or 2019 yet.
  6. This is pretty fun, cool and sad all at once.
  7. This is excellent. You should post this in the offseason moves thread. Priority number one: Get [expletive] Hendricks. Didnt they just draft a [expletive] of pitchers? They've drafted a horsefeathers load of pitchers every year since they've been here, probably 2 or 3 to 1 over the bats if I had to take a rough guess.
  8. I mean we could if they truly wanted to move him. But we'd probably have to give Russell, Eloy, Soler/Almora, Jeimer, and more or like Schwarber, Baez, Eloy, Cease, Happ, at least.
  9. Lorenzo Cain is a FA after the year, if the Royals try a mini-reset I wonder what it would take to get him for CF?
  10. I feel the same. I'll get maybe 1 World Series apparel thing but mostly just stick to plaques, pictures, banner stuff for it. Maybe get a NLCS/generic playoff Cubs thing too when they hit major discounts
  11. Get original and get a Theo (16 for the number?) one
  12. So they have until Monday to offer Fowler a QO. I'm not sure how the option stuff works with deadlines, but I imagine it's similar. Thanks. I just figured it had to be close because I've seen so many other teams make decisions on QOs and teams/players on options already.
  13. Is it weird at all Fowler hasn't been extended the QO and Hammel's option hasn't been picked up? I know the last few days have been nuts but the deadlines on those have to be real close.
  14. No to Cespedes. Just re-sign Fowler if that's a contract they'd be willing to give out. Rangers declined Derek Hollands option, I'm intrigued by him in the Travis Wood bullpen role
  15. It'll be quiet because the market sucks but I'm fascinated with the trade market this year. I keep trying to think about off-season plans and Jay Cutler don't caaaaare forces itself into my mind and World Series highlights start playing Same mostly. Part of it is we don't need much/FA class sucks and the other part is like the guys I have interest in are like Derek Holland (Rangers declined his option) and his ilk for spare pitching/bullpen parts. So not much to get excited about/plan for and just wait to see if we re-sign Chapman/Fowler and/or wait for a holy horsefeathers Theo crazy trade. Other than that it's FA spare parts, which yay we need, but it's not worth really diving into/trying to figure out.
  16. Someone is gonna die tonight
  17. I enjoy ratings news, and I saw something this week about how "Any Given Wednesday" was doing just awful and I had to google what it even was. I watched like 5 min of one of the episodes and it was awful. Simmons is terrible on TV. And yeah the ratings from the start have been abysmal from some articles I've seen.
  18. Are you Andre The Giant?
  19. Simmons dumpster fire of a show got canceled by HBO
  20. Him and Ross have to be planning some sort of dual entrance
  21. He seems like a genuinely decent guy, on the spectrum of sports owners he's like a gold standard in terms of practice and conduct.
  22. I'm guessing long. If Coomer, Len and JD all got individual intros every player and coach on the team is and probably at least 3-5 of them are talking.
  23. Ron Coomer is horsefeathering huge.
  24. Was Joe giving Billy his last rights?
