  1. God damn it, he took some swings this weekend his right leg/foot spun out from him and he didn’t look stable.
  2. Another money note, Phelps passed an appearance threshold that jumped his team option from $1 mil (I think) next year to $3 mil. If he gets 10 more appearances that jumps to a $5 mil option, hopefully he stays under that 10 (he should I think given after tomorrow we have like 18 straight games and with expanded rosters and off TJ I doubt he has in him or they want a ton of back to backs or 3 in 5 days type stuff). Him back at $3 mil is a really good deal and is a no brainer at $5 it’s not so much of a no brainer move, imo.
  3. Got it, yeah they likely won’t add him if it costs that.
  4. He’s made an appearance or two in Iowa and rookie ball, wonder if they throw him in the pen at some point this year. But definitely good to see for next year at the least. [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. This lineup fucks, get well soon Javy and we’re gonna wreck horsefeathers.
  6. I feel the same, just be within 1-2 games heading in to the Wrigley series. It’s still against us at this point with so few games left but there’s a chance. Also I know it’s a trip out there but San Diego is pretty bad themselves if the Rockies are a “shell of themselves.” 19-27 in the second half, Tatis done for the year, Franmil traded, Paddock could be shut down soonish, Greene is likely getting bounced at years end too. That’s pretty bad but the Rockies are on a whole other level. They are 1-11 in their last 12 and 15-41 since the start of July I had no idea they’ve been that bad, my god. Well hopefully the Cardinals will get Coors’d hard or the Rockies have a dead cat bounce the final few weeks.

  8. I get what you’re saying but doubt anyone in the clubhouse would react that way. They already were talking back mid-week how he likely wasn’t going to start yesterday or today vs LHP (they seem to prefer him hitting left handed from their comments). Maybe he isn’t fully ready yet, a little sore or dinged up and/or they/he feels he needs to work on a few things yet. I bet he starts vs King Felix tomorrow.
  9. The Colts just signed Brissett to 2/30, another sign they’re over the moon for Kelly to return.
  10. It doesn’t seem like it but this team has won 5 of 7 and 9 of 14.
  11. I had to help my parents move a bunch of old junk out of their garage this afternoon so I just flipped on as Rizzo got his hit, don’t know why everyone is complaining. This offense is rolling baby!
  12. I don’t know what’s so hard to get. You can think both the Cubs aren’t very good, annoying and underachievers while also thinking the Cardinals aren’t very good, worse than then Cubs and overachieving the last ~month. After yesterday and today though the math is getting hard to win the division, it’s still possible but not probable and just because the Cardinals likely go on to win the division doesn’t mean my stance is necessarily wrong. you're a cool dude, but essentially saying that the cardinals aren't a good team because their wins came in bunches is silly. nobody is saying they're great, but they're clearly good. They were .500 or under for a good chunk of the year, I don’t think they’re very good and I think this run has gotten them to a point where their win% is above their talent level and it wasn’t a probable thing to go on a run like that given their talent level.
  13. The Reds somehow beat the Cardinals in Game 2 tonight. Hopefully we can have a 4-2 week and the Cardinals can go 3-4 (home for, 4 vs Giants and at Rats for 3).

  15. Because they aren’t. It took a 17-4 record vs horsefeathers teams to get on a 90 win pace and where they’re at. They did this last year in August too. I’m dubious they finish with more than 85 wins. It’s like the Brewers last year that took the heater of all heaters to take us down, maybe it happens again. But we’re better and have 7 shots vs them and they can’t keep playing like .850 baseball for the next month, a correction is due. assuming they lose the game going on right now, they'd have to go 9-17 the rest of the way to finish with only 85 wins. and why does it matter that the 17-4 stretch just happened? those games count. you get a good record by having runs like that. you basically just said "it took them winning a lot of games to have a good record." A 17-4 record over 21 is more than a “run” and it’s not something that just happens with the talent level they have. They accomplished it, good for them, but they really aren’t that good. The Cubs also aren’t that good but it’s still taking a team going on like a 99th percentile heater to keep them out of first.

  18. Cool Joe got so aggressive using all the good bullpen arms today but seemed fine punting the starting lineup and pinch hitters
  19. Because Joe over-managed this game like a jackass and only Taylor Davis And Zobrist (who may or may not be ready) are the only two bench bats left.
  20. Hey, the Cubs have made plenty of your beloved contact today at least!* *I say this half jokingly because we all are annoyed by the inconsistent offense but the contact has been quality for a “Dong or nothing” team today.
