  1. I'm a Cubs fan and I really, really like Albert Pujols. There I said it.
  2. Can people stop saying this is a low risk move? If he comes in and stinks up the joint, and causes the Cubs to lose games, that sounds pretty high risk if you ask me. Divisions can be decided by 1 or 2 games over the course of 162. Every game is precious. Ahem...... :D
  3. Awesome sig. I'm tempted to steal that. Please do -- I did (from another board). We all need to visualize Rose in a Bulls uni and then maybe it'll actually happen. :D These last two games sucked - I hate last inning, last out heartbreak. :( Oh well.... at least the Royals are doing their part to hold down the Redbirds.
  4. Rays? No.... DEVILRAYS DEVILRAYS DEVILRAYS DEVILRAYS DEVILRAYS DEVILRAYS Go back to sucking Tampa. http://www.chicagomag.com/Radar/Deal-Estate/January-2008/Deal-of-the-WeekaCarlos-Zambranoas-New-Home/CT-Z10.jpg 8-2, 2.98 ERA, and Beautiful versus http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/img/MLB/Headshots/140x170/7984.jpghttp://i.cnn.net/si/images/golf/players/168.jpg 7-3, 4.89, and didn't this guy lose the US Open to Tiger over the weekend?
  5. Exactly, deals including multiple players such as Pie, Patterson, Gallagher, etc. for Sabathia (or Harden for that matter) aren't realistic, it's not going to cost that much to rent CC. I believe Hendry, for all his short comings, knowns this. What it ends up taking to get CC is debatable, but I'd be willing to bet it will end up being more than what the Twins got for Johan -- just because teams in contention come July will be more desperate and with fewer time or options available. IMO the Cubs should sell the farm for CC if he is indeed available - with or without guarantees of an extension. Its been far too long since the Cubs have been setup this well to make a deep run in October.
  6. What about when he still on the board at #19, and Wilken picks someone else?
  7. Yeah, 5 is a bit much. I don't know if 2 is enough to make it decent TV, but there's clearly a lot of unnecessary dead time and filler. I think they could just talk about the kid drafted a little bit (no need to interview), then talk about how he might fit into that team's system in comparison with other prospects. The time between picks would make more sense if teams could trade draft picks -- which I think they should allow at some point. First they'll need MLBPA to agree on fixed slot money for draft picks (ala the NBA) and then if they open up draft pick trades, it would certainly make things interesting for the teams and better television.
  8. If the game counts, then an online (and easily rigged) popularity contest shouldn't decide the starting lineups. Selig is a fool. OK -- so as a compromise let the fan's vote get guys on the team, but starters and the rest of the roster should go to the manager and players' vote. I trust them over the fans to make sure the most deserving players start / make the team.
  9. Cubs have only lost 8 home games. I've been to 3 games so far this season and they've lost 2 of the 3. I am going today. I apologize in advance if my bad mojo ruins a good thing.
  10. I didn't think it was possible to orgasm while staring at a live box score.... I was wrong. :D
  11. And it looks like Texas is now looking at locking up Hamilton to a long term deal: link Hopefully, for his sake, getting handed all that cash won't lead him back to temptation.
  12. I'm thinking Hill + Pie + Cedeno + Marmol. Seriously. He's making no money and they just gave up Edinson Volquez for him and he's pretty much putting up MVP numbers. Between Hill, Pi, Cedeno, and Marmol, 1 of the 4 is absolutely untouchable. Go on, guess which. As for Hamilton, Im sure hes aquireable. I know hes making like league minimum, but with a team like the Rangers, who are in a constant rebuilding phase, theyd always be willing to work something out. It would cost us, but its not out of the question. Teams rebuild with cheap productivity. Hamilton IS cheap productivity. Sure, nobody is untouchable, but the sheer amount a team would have to overpay to get cheap productivity away from a rebuilding team makes any reasonable possibility of a trade not worth it. But if there getting several players that will help them in the future for one guy who will be well out of there price range when hes due for a contract if he keeps it up, surely theyd have some interest. I would think so too -- the Cubs are in obvious win-now mode, and (aside from pitching) CF seems to be the area Hendry will most likely attempt to upgrade at the deadline. Hamilton would seem to be the best option out there if the Cubs are willing to over pay.
  13. Here are his stats at AAA Iowa: 12 IP, 1.50 ERA, 11 K/4 BB, .150 BAA. That's over 3 games started. His next start will be on Thursday. So glad he's allowed to contribute somewhere  How is he only going 4 IP per start and still putting up great numbers? He's obviously on a pitch count as he's being stretched out after wasting away in the Cubs pen. He went 3 IP in his first start with Iowa, then 4 IP, and most recently 5 IP in his last start.
  14. So... bringing this to a present-day transaction discussion... what would it take to get Hamilton from Texas? Pie + some combination of pitching prospects? or would it be impossible to pry him away from the Rangers at this point?
  15. Today's lineup (per WSCR): LF Soriano SS Theriot 1B Lee 3B Ramirez C Soto 2B Cedeno RF DeRosa CF Johnson As I look at it now, I may have flip-flopped Ronny and DeRo by mistake. We'll find out soon enough though.
  16. 2.35 with a .172 BAA
  17. Raise your hand if you thought Dempster's move to the rotation would be a complete and utter disaster. I am so very glad to be way wrong on that one -- at least through mid-May! Thanks for being great Demp! =D>
  18. Per an update on ESPN1000, this move will only cost the Cubs $284K. Not a huge risk and pretty easy for them to cut ties if Jimmy is truly done.
  19. This move would not be so despised if Jimmy had never been a Redbird. Its obvious that Lou is unwilling at this time to give Pie a chance in a straight platoon with Johnson, so Felix is likely better off tearing up AAA and forcing the Cubs to bring him back. Until then, the Cubs really need a lefty to platoon with Reed as he is not so good against RHP. If they catch fire with Edmonds great, if not he'll be cheap to cut ties with and hopefully Pie's #s in AAA will make it obvious that he needs more of a chance to show what he can do.
  20. You know.... it really is just a whole lot of bad luck that this franchise hasn't won a thing in 100 years.... It certainly isn't completely asinine personnel moves.
  21. I would sign every roids/HGH user on the planet if it meant a Cubs World Series. Sure some people would claim that it would taint the accomplishment, but I'd like to have that problem to worry about as I am drenched in champagne in late October.
  22. Ugh...4 a year and 3 of those were due to death.... I'd say the only way we ever make it is if they build a new stadium and they open up a larger season ticket base (and people correspondenly drop their season tickets in protest) As a current season ticket holder I would hate this if it happened, but I would not be surprised if a new team owner decided to issue PSLs to raise a lot of cash and recover some of the coin they spent purchasing the franchise. That would certainly have the potential to shake up the current season ticket holder base. The season ticket base includes partial season ticket packages as well (nights & weekends and daily double plans) -- so not all 29K have tickets to every game....
  23. Gabor! :D
