  1. Listen man, I'm all for questioning conventional wisdom, but the burden of proof falls squarely on you in this instance. As someone mentioned before, there isn't a shred of statistical evidence that supports what you're claiming. There's nothing wrong with trying to stir up a little debate, but all you've brought to the table is "Maybe there's something about Jim Hendry that makes him pick players that aren't clutch." Like...seriously?
  2. I agree. That's why I didn't call you out.
  3. If you believe in clutch ability, we've got a whole separate set of problems.
  4. 2 ABs. Good sample size. Let's draw some conclusions.
  5. Maybe we're not even arguing. 63 years of failure to win the pennant is a product of bad management...agreed. However, when you have a team driving for its 3rd division title in 6 years, the management has earned the right not to be indicted along with those past Cubs failures.
  6. If you have two different definitions of a hit for different situations, it cheapens the no-hitter completely.
  7. So because Alex Gonzalez booted a ground ball and the same people who picked Alex Gonzalez also picked the players on this team...by God you're right!
  8. Haha please no
  9. Absolutely. I agree with not wanting them to get complacent, but if Lou's the manager we all think he is, there's no reason to worry about that.
  10. Demp might be having the better season than Z, but there's no way he's the more feared pitcher in a playoff setting.
  11. If you like the statistical analysis angle of Moneyball, Baseball Prospectus has a book called Baseball Between The Numbers that'll really open your eyes.
  12. Yeah, there was an article the other day regarding the possibility of David Price being added to the Rays' playoff roster even though he hasn't been called up yet. If you have a guy on your playoff roster who's disabled, you can replace him with anyone, regardless of whether they were up before roster expansion.
  13. Given his history, I'd have to think he understands in a situation like this. The Cubs are more than good enough to have won the Central without him - the only reason he's here is to win games in October. He knows that.
  14. The guy had a great WHIP and K/BB rate, but his ERA was only good enough for 18th in the NL. Tom Gorzelanny was 16th. Is he in the discussion as well? I'm taking nothing away from Rich. I just think you gotta see a little more from him before he's one of the best.
  15. Rich Hill was a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter but I'm not sure I'd call him a full-fledged #2, let alone among the best.
