If you change something in the past, the future doesn't stay the same. very likely soriano still hits a homerun there. more likely than not in my opinion. the idea that pineiro pitches him differently is very dubious. why would he? What would he do differently? he made a mistake and he likely would have with theriot on third as well. I find the idea that you will produce the same result every time (edit: or even close to every time, or close to a majority) the same pitcher throws the same pitches to you absurd.
