  1. you're actually surprised? He's not getting demoted this month
  2. Trying to think of a time aside from the extension for Hendry that I have been this angry at the Cubs...
  3. Add that to things like Len talkingg about how good Reed Johnson is for evidence that announcers are simply prostitutes
  4. That's pretty surprising
  5. Thanks OMC, I have him swinging lefty off a tee now, and he's three. He'll be swinging like bosshogg's kid before long. My 3-year-old is hitting soft toss already. He throws with either hand equally well (though a little more frequently with his right). Is it too early to start teaching him to swing left-handed too? get that switch hitting going!
  6. Thompson was on WGN Radio this morning saying that the Sun-Times story was false. He said that Zell had send him a letter that he should receive today regarding the status of the sale. Because the story appears on Cubs.com after Thompsons radio interview and roughly the time when he would have received the letter, though, I'm leaning towards believing that the deal is just about off. in the 720 pregame, they interviewed the chairman of the cubs(?) who said that this made is significantly less likely that the field would be sold separately from the team. Hopefully they're giving up on that.
  7. Keppinger breaks his knee, plays 2 more innings on it. Yep. So is that a Dusty or a Yost?
  8. His father is Iranian and I suspect our current foreign policy in the Middle East makes him feel uncomfortable. Joking? I mean, his dad went to FSU and obviously spent a lot of time in America. I don't think he's afraid to come to the US or that strained US-Iranian relations would make him not want to play on the world's largest stage. Andre Agassi and TJ Houshmandzadeh never seemed to have a problem with playing in the US despite its foreign policy. Granted both were born in the US, but I think there's something more to Yu's resistance. Wild guess: you don't pay a lot of attention to the way the US is portrayed in international media. Well, actually, upon further review - neither. He is actually more like random asian A. should have gone with "my korean roommate" (Korean, right?)
  9. And the ump explains why he called a pitch that far outside a strike: It's wet
  10. So aside from Wuertz and Soriano, is there anything positive from this game? Soto kept his OBP up
  11. "from one knee" doesn't really capture the fact that lee was completely on his side when he threw that
  12. A bit weird to see Wuertz working as the long man, but it seems to be going pretty well, and hopefully it will get him back to pitching well (and in lou's good graces)
  13. painful to watch the middle of the order today
  14. Anyone else have a visceral, irrational dislike for submariners?
  15. theriot the last 28 days: .370/.452/.480/.932 yeah, that's a guy you want bunting. why not bunt with lee and ramirez in similar situations, whille you're at it? As I said before, different situations for different management. No, I wouldn't bunt with Lee or Ramirez. Would I for Theriot in the right sitation (to get Lee, Ramirez and Fukudome possibly runners in scoring position when playing for 1 run to extend a possible weather delay) - yes? Theriot sucks, he still can't hit, sample size....."yeah, tha'ts a guy you want bunting." So, now he's good then? Which one is it? So please, explain why lowering your chances of scoring one run makes sac bunting a good idea
  16. No, that is why sacrifice bunts that aren't executed well are stupid. no, bunting with your #2 hitter is stupid. or, having a #2 hitter who you'd rather bunt with in that situation is stupid. That makes no sense. Bunting with your #2 hitter - essentially trying to put 2 runners in scoring position for your 2 best hitters is stupid knowing full well this game may be called very soon? http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902.html Slightly more runs expected with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs than runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. plus that assumes that the bunt is executed properly. there's a much better chance of a failed bunt that results in a double play, pop out or fielder's choice than there is of a throw into the stands or theriot beating the ball to first. so actually the decision to bunt is going to cost you even more than that very small amount. It's not that hard people. The only positive from a sac bunt when everyone knows a sac bunt is coming and the defense doesn't botch it is moving runners over and getting an out. There are several positives if you actually try to get a hit, which is what hitters are used to doing in every single AB. And many positives come from a PROPERLY executed sacrifice bunt. A fly ball ties the game and a bloop single wins it. Considering the weather and circumstances, it was a good decision but poor execution. You're not doing a good job of looking at the alternatives. If theriot swings, there's a significant chance he gets a hit or walk (more than a third!) and does better than the sac. There's another 1/3 or more chance that he drives at least marquis to third while making an out, basically the same as a successful sac. There's a small chance he gets an out and no movement, and a very small chance of a dp.
  17. it's not going to happen. marquis will finish the season as a starter. no way they pull Marquis after this. He'll have to continue to suck for another month at the very least, unless someone really wants to trade for him or he gets much worse than he currently is
  18. That was one heck of a boo for a fake pickoff attempt
  19. No, that is why sacrifice bunts that aren't executed well are stupid. If it had been done perfectly it would have been almost as stupid
  20. Hey truffle, does it look like the bulk of the storm is going to go south of Wrigley?
  21. Please hit more fly balls, cubs, fewer fly balls, padres
