  1. Ank had the ball on his glove at the same moment Soto stepped on third
  2. WGN's poll question: Which rival would you rather meet in the playoffs: WS, Cards, Brewers I'll really hate cell phone poll people if the winner isn't WS
  3. This certainly isn't last season's running game
  4. Agreed. Wasn't disastrous. Just need the defense to keep on it. It could well cost us 4 or 7 points. It was dumb. He didn't have the defense fooled they were still running full speed. Right. That's not a dumb play in general because you can always take a knee and get it at the 20. He blew it.
  5. The Tommy Harris English muffins commercial is pretty amusing.
  6. I'm slightly optimistic about orton at this point. When he was qb a few years ago, he was the second least accurate passer we've had in decades. He's fixed (or greatly improved upon) his biggest flaw.
  7. Back in 2001, Madden spent about 5 minutes of a game talking about the importance of a house's stoop. Stoops are good. they make the house. I loved the stoop. stoop stoop stoop.
  8. Teams should provide them with GPS
  9. Nice Dusty Baker hindsight argument. Well played. There was also the foresight, the statistics, and the fact that it's bloody stupid to bunt with Dero when you've got what'shisface batting next That's okay. You tried to criticize and you were wrong. Buck up and keep shooting for that rainbow. A) you confirmed that you don't know what statistically significant means, B) you missed the point: you sound exactly like that stubborn little kid who won't acknowledge not just why he's wrong, but that he's wrong. A.) Ummm, sorry. Feel free to keep pushing that, though. B.) Irony. Please define "statistically significant" without googling or wiki-ing, plz. You mean "not due to chance?" Feel free to explain how the win PROBABILITY difference of 1% (when based upon previous data) is statistically significant. I was not great in my statistic classes but I'm pretty sure it depends on where you set your alpha-level. My guess is that with any reasonable alpha-level that difference is statistically significant due the likely large sample size of data. It sounds like this is a statistical significance vs. clinical significance argument that has gotten out of control and missed the main point of discussion in the first place. In other words, it's statistically significant, based on all the births in the USA, that there are about 1% more male births than female births. It's statistically insignificant that, to make up numbers, Fukudome is 50% more likely to make the last out of the game than Soto. A .001% difference can be statistically significant if you've got enough data

And now you've completely confirmed that you don't know what it means. ](*,)

  13. Those are very nice numbers. You want a guy in scoring position. You can say what you want, but statistics show that bunting decreases your chances of winning That's very nice. Good for statistics. Bill Plashke, is that you? Nothing like utterly distorting my point. In THIS SITUATION, you bunt. uh no, based on this exact situation, it still lowers your win probability. Actually, no it doesn't, as 1% is not a significant statistical difference. Its a judgment call. and a stupid one to take the bat out of a good hitter so an inferior hitter can bat with a runner on 2nd. That's very nice. I disagree. A) you clearly don't know what "statistically significant" means B) when you wrote down something like "2+3=6" and your math teacher pointed out you were wrong, did you say "That's very nice. I disagree."
  14. This will be fun if it goes to extra innings
  15. Zambrano's overworked too, but unlike what the Brewers are doing, the Cubs are pushing him back a couple days. They're also probably going to skip harden. And yes, Lincecum is overworked. We've established that. I'm sure there are other guys as well. Point is, that the Brewers are playing for October right now. Their odds are around 90% at making the playoffs at this point. We don't know if CC's poor playoff starts were due to a dead arm. But they could have been. That's why it's stupid to run him out there for the eighth and ninth today when you're beating the hapless Pirates 7-0 after seven innings. Because it could affect him come playoff time. Fair enough. I guess that is the chance they take and if CC didn't want to go out I am sure he would say so. It's not like they are forcing him out there. I think there is conversation and he wants to pitch. There is plenty of talk that goes on and he must win the battle between him and Ned. This isnt all on Ned. CC pushes for this as well. But I guess on your end you can hope he gets burnt out and that will be a benefit to the cubs. I agree it is useless but for whatever reason he goes back out there. Pitchers always want to go back out (some old vets excluded). If they didn't, they wouldn't have made the majors. They all believe they are invincible, at least at frst. The manager's job is to make sure that their foolishness doesn't harm them and the team.
  16. Bob's been whining about the zone all day. It's not a good zone at all, but that was a strike. If it looks like it hit the right side of the plate, then it was well inside.
  17. This ump is just brutal. who is it, anyway?
  18. How much has Gaudin pitched? He's got 1.2 innings in the last week
