  1. On SOSH, they are hearing that the Dodgers will pick up 96% of the salary coming from Boston. I definitely think this is a good trade for the Red Sox, but I'm surprised the Sox fans aren't more upset about losing AGonz after all the fanfare his arrival brought 2 years ago. I know he's underperformed a bit but the dude is still a great hitter and young enough (well..he's 30) to be a contributor 2-3 years down the road. Would you have bailed on the Soriano contract in August 2008 if the Cubs were out of it and not likely to contend in 2009? If you could get a return and not pay most of the contract?
  2. Who the hell takes the third preseason game like it's [expletive]? I give up, what's being censored here? Yes, the third preseason game is the one where the starters play the most. It's the closest thing to counting they have in the preseason.
  3. Good hands.
  4. If the value of these huge, long contracts for sluggers in their 30s is heavily stacked towards the beginning (like we heard about a lot talking about Pujols and Fielder so recently), I can see why you'd do that. The first two years of his contract are gone and it doesn't seem like they'll contend in the third. Still plenty of value for a team in the Dodgers situation. Of course, we'll have to see what kind of return it is.
  5. It's kind of funny that they've talked about him like he should be the starter.
  6. That was odd, he didn't bend anything badly on that tackle and had to be carted off (not a bear, for those not watching)
  7. I'm more surprised the four of them have a combined 4.8 fWAR in the last week of august
  8. I like the "I'm too old and our lead is too big for me to cover home" move.
  9. sometimes it's a player turning 27 and hitting their prime. I'm not seeing much of a curve here. It's a cliff. And it happened right after a 2010 season where he was notoriously out of shape.
  10. It was the exact same pitch as the ball called previously. Brutal. PitchFX has them both the same distance outside of the strike zone, at very slightly different heights. It was, by far, the most badly blown strike call of the game.
  11. Wow, I wonder how much money this is going to cost him.
  12. One of the odder double plays you'll see. and 6-4-5-3 double play broke google instant view.
  13. Hit and run with Soriano and valbuena, which causes an out instead of a hit? Of course.
  14. As bad as the Cubs are, there is zero chance of catching the Astros. They are in their own league of bad. It's not very likely, but what other reasons can I think of to pick a team to beat the Cubs? And lose 5 of the last 8 against them and the records are only a few games apart.
  15. IF we're going to lose, might as well be to the Astros. No shot of the top pick if we're actually beating them in series.
  16. Just noticed that Mark Bellhorn has 7.4 career fWAR over 10 seasons and 2500 PAs, and got 7.5 fWAR in 2002+2004.
  17. That was an unusual 7th inning interview.
  18. He's cheaper and at least slightly better than Koyie. Point noted though, it's like the Giant Douche/ Turd Sandwich debate. He's better than Hill? Clevenger has been amazingly bad since April. His fWAR is down to -0.3 on the year, on pace to pass Hill's worst (-0.4). His OPSes in the three months since April (and one game in may): .480, .346, .311.
  19. :banghead: Wow, that was stupid.
  20. Clevenger has been so amazingly bad since his injury. .480, .346, .393. Those are his OPSs in June, July, August.
  21. Wow, some big white guy (almost certainly a lineman) on the Bears sideline has a beard that looks like animal fur.
  22. Manning shredded the defense in his single turn on the field, stopped by a dropped pass that turned into an interception inside the 5 yard line. Offense was useless. Really, it's surprising how much the first preseason game looks like a game from the past few years to this point.
  23. The announcer just said, on the replay of a sack, that the guy who made the sack was "double teamed". The only Bronco he made any contact with was Hanie.
