I know people rip on me a lot for wanting the Cubs to learn how to shorten up their swings, and I want to know why people don't think the idea of players adding another tool to their skillset is viable. Getting runs in from third with less than two outs is incredibly important, and the Cubs have paid the price in this area this year with all their strikeouts. Is it just assumed players can't learn how to adjust their swing, or it'd harm the rest of their game too much? I'm not saying Kris Bryant should turn into a slap hitter, but why can't he learn the skill of making contact when it's important to at least get a sac fly? I don't like the idea that players are ultimately set in their ways and can't make adjustments. And no, Rizzo putting on a clinic isn't magically going to fix everything, but over an offseason and during spring training, why not? I'm aware of my tendency to be a dolt around here, but I'm always willing to learn more about the game.
