  1. Maybe yesterday could have gone like this, with the ace dominating (which did happen) and the scrub sucking (which decidedly did not happen).
  2. This, combined with all the improbable Cards [expletive] lately, is incredibly stupid. Maybe we could have all this dumb unlikely [expletive] back in 2012 when it didn't even matter? Actually, there were probably just as many flukes during the tanking years, just no one noticed them because wins were meaningless. Wait, you seriously think there's an usual amount of fluke-y things happening this seas-oh, wait, I just realized who I was talking to. ...he says, even though I clearly mentioned that this year probably isn't any different from past years.

  4. Hopefully today will teach Maddon that you use your two best bullets in the pen for the last two innings of a one run game.
  5. It's totally reasonable for an offense to go from completely locked in to completely baffled in the span of a day.
  6. Baseball is all about playing the percentages. Who do you trust more to throw a shutdown inning, Jake after he's pitched seven innings (not to mention he's demonstrated some control issues, at least compared to last year), or a rested Rondon, who has a miniscule walk rate?
  7. Maybe this isn't the time to make errors, Addy? Christ.
  8. Yeah, when you have Rondon and Chapman fresh, you pull Arrieta after seven. This game has been frustrating, but Maddon is partially to blame for how things turned out.
  9. Really, Jake. You should know better.
  10. Umpires should realize they're not allowed to change the strike zone to make a game interesting.
  11. Oh, horsefeathers that. No way that was conclusive.
  12. It looks about as conclusive as the first play.
  13. Flail at the changeup outside, watch the fastball on the inner corner go by. Oh, Baez.
  14. Also, I'm not sure you should be bunting in front of Baez.
  15. Jesus horsefeathers, hit this horsefeathering scrub.
  16. Just can't square anything up today.
  17. The Cubs will play 162 games this season, most of them against pitchers that are varying degrees of 'not great'. If 100 games a year are against that caliber of starter, then we should expect this to happen dozens and dozens of times per year, even if the Cubs have a great team and offense. This is what baseball looks like, and this is why it's so great that it's a long season. Get out of here with your logic.
  18. I'm not drawing any grandiose conclusions from this, but it really is uncanny how many mediocre pitchers we've faced on days where they happen to have their A stuff.
