Cubs get the lead and Marquis, as usual, allows the leadoff single.

That's always been the problem with Marquis. If he throws strikes and doesn't walk people, he has good enough stuff to be a pretty decent pitcher. Take tonight for example.

As much as I love Fukodome, he seems to foul an awful lot of pitches off that he should be driving in the gaps, if not out of the park.

By the way, I still think Marquis will implode, as he has all season.

Crappy pitching led to Pierre hitting a line drive single up the middle. Well, singles tend to happen in Baseball. That said, he gets out of the inning easily if not for that horrid throw by Geo. I am not a Marquis fan at all, but that inning is on Geo. You're still assuming that the player gets the ball, gets the tag down in time, and the ump calls him out. As we saw yesterday, none of that is a guarantee. It didn't matter that he was safe, if the throw doesn't go into center, Pierre never scores on the Kent two hopper to short.

Go back to the play and look closely. The throw was bad, but it bounced off the edge of the grass and bounced away from DeRosa. DeRo would have had that if not for the unlucky bounce. So, basically it was not Marquis fault.

Last month when the Cougar was shot here in Chicago, Len had asked Bob if he had seen any Cougars (Or something similar to that) out and about in the area. After about 5 sceonds of dead silence (I think there were both too busy laughing) Bob said something along the lines of: "It depends on what part of the city you are talking about". They both cracked up on air. I'm telling you, these guys are not only very funny, but both are great announcers. -

Yes. He and Len should do comedy as they are quite funny together. I have laughed out loud countless times this year with the wise cracks. I just don't get why so many people are down on him as a manager. I mean, the man did win a WS. -
Quite honestly, Steve Stone sill has an axe to grind with the Cubs and his act has really gotten old. He still takes his subtle jabs at the Cubs and he comes off as a cry baby. IMO, Brenly is just as good as Stone ever was in the booth and he isn't affraid to speak his mind when he doesn't like a certain move, pitch, etc. If you could take a pick between Stone and Brenly, who would you rather have in the booth? For me, it's a slam dunk for Brenly.

The bottom line is that the Cubs have picked up 1 game on the Cardinals during the first four games of the trip. Nice 3-1 start to the trip so far and a 3.5 game lead.

Theriot is just a good, smart hitter. I really have been impressed with him. He hits the ball where it's pitched and rarely has a bad at bat.
