2009 was really the only WS they won under the "buy all the FAs" strategy. Their successes in the late 90's were largely from a home grown operation. True, but 2009 wasn't the only year they were in the WS or really damn close under the buy buy buy strategy, and considering that's a lot further then our Cubs have mustered, I'd take it
