  1. True, but Rose has as much of a case to be in the HOF as Santo. Look I am on board with the "Get Santo in the Hall" bandwagon, but I also believe Rose should be in the Hall, too. But Rose isn't held out of the HOF because of his statistics, so it's a poor argument. Especially when you have a guy with perfectly legitimate numbers that is held out of the HOF for no reason at all. Rose has as much of a case as anyone to NOT be in the HOF. rose bet on baseball. there are signs in every major league locker room in the game that say (in effect) DON'T BET ON BASEBALL. he did. I'm one for Rose being in the Hall as a player, he bet as a manager, but the well he wasn't the only one doing it argument has never made any sense to me whatsoever in any circumstance. So what! He still broke the rule. Just because others may have as well doesn't make it right. i'm not saying that rose deserves to be in or doesn't deserve to be in, but everyone in the game knows that MLB is very, very serious about its players not gambling on games. rose chose to ignore that. I can't prove it or anything, but I doubt Rose was the only guy betting on baseball. He's the only one who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I would reinstate him for the sole purpose of electing him into the Hall of Fame.
  2. Not gonna lie I was a bit happy to see O'Sullivan and Hill turn the ball over but Smith not in the 49ers game. I still have hope for Smith. 4 o-coor's in 4 years is tough and in the one year he had a good one (Norv) he showed promise. I want him to get the job and with a real o-coor this year see what he can do (while he sucked we were 2-0 before his injury last year).
  3. Saw this video when searching for edmonds Hr today since it just happened thought it might not be taken down yet and I wanted to see the bat flip (missed the game). Came here to post it but saw I was beaten to it. I find it funny his example of Johnny Damon is actually an example of what happened in St. Louis. Red Sox fans gave him a standing O in his first at bat back in Fenway and then booed him ever since.

  5. I would. Felix Pie has thus far proven to be Corey Patterson but with a better attitude. There is nothing about Pie that tells me he'll turn the corner next year. A lot depends on Piniella as well. If we win it this year, I'd expect Lou to retire with the ultimate feather in his cap. If that happens, Pie has a chance to win the job next year under a new manager. If we don't, Pie won't have a chance. Lou doesn't put up with mediocrity and Pie has proven to be just that. .178/.265/.233, 103 PA's .222/.286/.286, 70 PA's One of these two lines is Pie at the Major League level this year. The other is Edmonds before he was cut from the Padres. And your point is? Edmonds numbers as a Padre have no barring. Piniella doesn't care much at all what you do in a different uniform. if you perform in a Cubs uni he will play you if you don't you will ride the pine.
  6. Mannnnnn you got my hopes up. It's not no more blackouts its just no more places with multiple blackouts in areas the team doesn't even broadcast in. Change the title before others get tricked as well.
  7. and the streak is set to continue
  8. Indeed. If you have a lifetime WARP3 of 132 as a SS, your butt better be in the HOF. The bust is made of your face not your butt ...
  9. The only stat that he has which is (or will be) impressive is the number of leadoff HRs. His power numbers as a LF are nothing special, his stealing days are pretty much done, and his defense borders between bad and great (throwing). No way he's a HOF player. Not to be nit-picky but he has 11 steals in 66 games this year. That's about 30 in a full season. And if he has four years like the pace he has put up this year he would have a good shot and would be a lock if he held his pace the last few weeks for any kind of significant time. Obviously not going to happen but I think if he plays a big role in the Cubs winning a world series or two and has 4 or 5 more 30 hr seasons with 20 sb's he's got a real shot. If he gets 150 more hr's (30 a year until 37 or plays into his 40's) and 100 more sb's (20 for 5 more years or plays into his 40's) he would have 400-300 which could get him in if he is looked at more as a 2b but he will likely be looked at as a outfielder.
  10. They say no, but I bet it does. They know Dusty can't control the situation, so they wanted to move him on. When it comes to their announcers, they are all fools. Can you imagine any Cub announcers saying right on the air, that the best fans in baseball are the Cardinal fans? Well, I've heard them(the Cincy announcers) say it many times. Such jerks. I can't listen to Reds announcers. I don't like White sox ones either whatsoever but I can atleast get through a game with them. And you realize your avatar comes off as Cobsession, having Cob is never a good thing.
  11. oh no 20 dollars for a jersey shirt you might have to replace in two or three years
  12. Dusty's daughter must not like Louisville. If I'm taking it the right way that's a good joke. Not sure many others will get it.
  13. that's good, ooo that's good
  14. Bananas? Wha? this ump is bananas b-a-n-a-n-a-s
  15. I love having to watch WGN games using a no video Gmaeday boxscore from MLB.com because I'm home for a few days and my parents cable is lossing the channel signals and it can't be fixed till Monday. Of 120 or so channels 10 are coming in up until the 3rd innings WGN was one of them but then it just blipped out. Oh happy day I got to miss Lou blowing up and an extra inning game.
  16. Well, I might sneak into the 2nd or 3rd round next year then. Interesting: Josh Freeman, soph yr - 63.3 comp %, 6.7 yards per pass, 18:11 TD:INT, 127.3 rating Matt Ryan, jr yr - 61.6%, 6.9 y/pass, 15:10 TD:INT, 126.4 rating I don't think a "mediocre" year from Freeman should make him the #1 pick, just as I don't think Matt Ryan should have been the first QB taken in the draft. But, I can see the precedent for an NFL team falling in love with Freeman's natural skills (he is 6'6, 250) much like they did Ryan's and not looking at the stats. Freeman's sophomore year and Ryan's junior year were eerily similar. Freeman won't have Jordy Nelson to save his ass. I don't know what Ryan' decision making abilities were like, but freeman's are pretty bad. The offense is basically designed to make him think as little as possible. Ryan threw about eleventy billion more interceptions than any previous high-rated draft QB, so it's safe to say his decision-making wasn't great. I would have thought you would go off on a tangent considering how much you hate Ryan and BC.
  17. He was in a group though, right? Was it Canning's group? No, he was his own group. I forgot his last name. Anixter I think? Also Levin is still in the mix I think (the owner of the Wolves) My gut feeling is that Levin's the favorite in this...a local guy who's already had success in the sporting arena. Just a hunch, nothing more I don't think I'm the favorite I have about 30 dollars to my name right now.
  18. LEAVE BARTMAN ALONE!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qOW__TneAY
  19. Not really. The topic is about a new poster coming on with an in-your-face "I told you so" message to people who criticized Theriot in the past.Yeah you are right about that. I still think Theriot deserves a good thread though. he has had one all season with my Theriot appreciation thread
  20. He hasn't interviewed with anyone. It's been talked about many times before how he has turned down all interview requests. It's the reason I started supporting him. His alleged answer to one request by either SI or ESPN was he didn't want to capitalize on one of the worst moments in Cubs history.
  21. When hitters are struggling you don't put your team in a situation where if the hitter swings and misses you get two outs. It's common sense.
  22. Chemistry normally does come from winning but it can come at any place. My soccer team came together when we were 3-6-1 and just tied a conference game which was the first time my school had ever not won a conference game.
  23. They asked me to spell it for them. At least they didn't add the Red Sox and Yankees to the question or answer. They've changed it adding the brewers ... the Yankees were on it at first.
  24. Or it could just be that someone busted out of a slump at the right time or managed to get a hit in a key situation. "Gelling" has little, if anything, to do with it. My senior year, our team had no chemistry issues. We went 21-10 that season and lost in the sectionals. It had nothing to do with chemistry. Having good team chemistry certainly doesn't hurt, but I highly doubt it has much of an effect on winning and losing, especially at the higher levels. I guess you'll just never understand but I have been on teams that everyone liked each other but people still played how they saw fit and wouldn't make the slight adjustments to better pair with teammates games. I had that each of my first three years playing soccer in high school. My senior year we started out horrible but one day we held a team meeting with no coaches talked about somethings and then went on a 10 game win streak making it to semi-state. After the team meeting everything just clicked and we were all playing one step ahead of he opponent because we knew what each other were going to do. The Colorado Rockies last year had this happen. They sucked and then all of a sudden it clicked and they were always one step ahead of their opponents. Although in baseball because it is very much an individual sport this probably doesn't happen except in very very rare cases like the Rockies last year.
  25. but how many wins? 8-0 in his last 10 starts. It's on the front of ESPn MLB page right now. Here's a link ... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/notebook?page=bbtn literally every post goes right over your head Either that or you are taking it the wrong way and vastly over reacting (what you ... never). I know you were making a joke about the win vs. ERA argument but when I saw the stuff on ESPN I came back to post what he has done.
