  1. I don't buy that A-Rod is really going to be traded, but if he is I don't think the Yankees are going to trade him anywhere in the American Leauge, no matter how much better of a package an AL team can offer. IF A-Rod gets traded, which like I said, I really doubt will happen, it'll be done to please fans and/or Big George, not a move to make their team better. They'll send him off to some NL team where he'll be unlikely to come back and burn them in the playoffs every year.
  2. Couple things to point out here. 1) Randall Simon did come through with some big hits down the stretch in 2003. He wasn't as good as Thome, but who knows how things would have shaken out with Thome at 1st. For about 6 weeks (Randall was acquired at the end of August, right?), I don't think there was too big of a difference in production. Yes, it was the Cubs getting "lightning in a bottle" from a mediocre (at best) player, but lack of production from 1B was not why they didn't win the 2003 WS. I was happy they didn't bring him back, but he had some huge hits for the Cubs. 2) We now have Derek Lee at 1B, and he would not be here if we had signed Thome. Compare their numbers from last year and tell me how much better off we'd be with Jim Thome. Everyone's raving about what geniuses the Sox are for picking him up, but a rebound year from this guy is far from a sure thing. Thank god the Cubs didn't sign him....
  3. Ernie Banks once described Sammy as the greatest Chicago Cub who ever lived. And I agree.... I miss Sammy, though it's easier to deal with the loss since he's not hitting his weight nowdays....
  4. I pretty much agree with you here, I'm just trying to make sense of this whole thing. I actually still have a bit of fatih in Hendry, but I can't imagine what he's thinking about here...
  5. There's really only 2 situations that make trading Prior okay. 1) He has told the team he hates it here and is going to leave as a free agent as soon as he can. 2) They think something is seriously wrong with him and they're pretty sure he can pass a physical. Only if they know they're going to lose him would it be a good move.
  6. No, not really Not a very good memory eh? He didn't appear in the one series vs. the white sox when they played in Chicago. Claimed his foot hurt and asked to be put on the DL. And was so dedicated to the charade that he stayed on the DL for a full month after the White Sox series. you just have a bad memory when it comes to things that never happened. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Sammy diagnosed with a Staff Infection on his foot? I'm pretty sure he was. I know Sox fans like to think they're so tough that Sammy was scared of their booing, but it was a serious injury.

  8. Watching the White Sox get to (and possibly win) The World Series is like going to your ex-girlfriends wedding without a date. You can lie and tell people how happy you are for them, or you could be honest about things. Me, I'll be honest. Screw them, I hope they lose. Go Houston....
  9. Anyone besides me remember those pics of Ozzie giving the "choke" sign to the Cubs and the fans at Wrigley before game 7 of the 2003 playoffs at Wrigley? I still kind of doubt they're really going to blow this, but if team led by Ozzie is really about to choke a 15 game lead away, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy....
