  1. I have wondered this as well. I'm pretty sure they both signed for similar amounts. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think about how bad this offseason was.
  2. Did you hate the Winter Classic too? I actually think its cool that they do stuff like this. The atmosphere at Wrigley is just unmatched no matter the event. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Cubs get a cut of the revenue from these events which can ultimetly help the team.
  3. I love me some Bako, purely for nostalgic reasons, but to try to argue that he is somehow better that Blanco is silly. The only positives to having Bako back this year are: 1. Yelling "Fear the Bako" all year long when he is at the plate. 2. Stumping fans with the trivia question, "What is Bako's real first name?"
  4. Seriously? I didn't get an e-mail... :( You'd be better off buying tickets on the secondary market then getting that plan. I have 2 tickets to 13 games for an average of $20 a ticket. I'll take that any day. In what section, 500's? Yep. 500's infield, which I would really rather sit than the 200's.

  6. so the day that you get your wrist band isnt the same day that you buy tickets? that's the part i couldn't remember. Unless they are making changes to the system, wristbands will be given out on the 18th and 19th pretty much all day long. At around 6 am CT on Friday the 20th, they will pull the number and start from there, usually asking for the first couple hundred within that number to come to the park and buy their tickets. Cardinals, White Sox and Interleague games are usually completly gone within the first couple hours, but I have gone on the second day and still got some tickets.
  7. I think we either go get Peavy, or we are starting the year with Marshall as our # 5. To me, it makes no sense to trade a decent, albiet overpriced 5th starter, and pay part of this salary, just to go out and sign some other overpriced 5th starter aka pettite, looper, redding etc. Go with Marshall until for the year, or until hes shows he doesnt have what it takes.
  8. Wow, you seriously believe that could happen? The guy has only hit .300 once, 40+ HR once and 100+ RBI twice. That was all a few years ago, there's no chance that'll happen again. I think its unlikely but by no means impossible for Sori to put up these #'s. The only thing that seems crazy is the 100+ rbi giving his spot in the lineup.
  9. OMG I am sooo pumped The Bako is back. That said, for the Bench, This is what I would like to see: Bako Reed Hoff Pie/Gathright Cedeno This is what I think we will see: Bako Reed Hoff Gathright Miles My concern is that leaving Cedeno off the roster cripples our definsive middle infield were we to need a defensive replacement. Theriot and Fonty scare me quite a bit in a close game. Not too sure how Miles is defensivly. Also, I would love to see Pie take the next step and earn a roster spor in spring training, but I'm thinking he wont be around that long.
  10. Agreed. I actually believe its more of a positive than a negative. You want your players to truly believe they can do it. Call it "overconfidence", but the Cubs WERE the best team in the NL for 162 games.
  11. Or they are trying to make the most money they can on a highly prized commodity. I realize that these are highly prized, but the brokers are doing 75% of their buisness during the week, selling tickets to buisness and mostly corporate Chicago, AKA companies that can afford these and use to take a high profile client to. The brokers know very well that a fan walking in day of playoff game is not going to pay $500 a tix. They will tell you that is what they are going for because a company of 2000 employees bought 4 tickets to the game at that price. Bottom line, when you go in there before the game, you have very little leverage on them as they are "experts on the market", have "huge demand for tickets" and you are just one in thousands.
  12. I am also considering all three of those options. I live near Wrigely, so our thoughts on the situation might be different but here we go. 1. Stub hub is redic. I'm not dealing w/ that for game 1. One the other hand you will have a tix for the game and can relax knowing that. 2. If your referring to actual scalpers, dont bother. If your referring to the brokers who legally sell tix around Wrigley, they will highball you just like they do on Stub hub. They will tell you that "they know the market, and if you don't like it, than don't go to the game". When in reality, they are just trying to screw some Cubs fans. 3. Best option IMO. (This is what I'm doing). Wait and watch at a bar next to one of these places until they brokers are desperate to get rid of the remains. They will still try to highball you, but you have MUCH more leverage to negotiate and should be able to get down to near face value. Worst case, you dont get a ticket, and you enjoy the game at a bar (Where honestly, more true Cub fans will probably be)
  13. That makes you think. I would hope a life or death situation with a loved one would take priority over the Cubs. Man I love the Cubs but they would not even cross my mind in a situation like that. Besides that, I cannot imagine a situation that would keep me from watching a Cubs playoff game. My friends and family know me well enough to realize that this playoff run is a priority in my life now and they wouldn't keep me away from that.
  14. Sorry to burst your bubble but you're forgetting to account for season ticket holders. Ahh true. Forgot about that. Still seems like some pretty good odds. Obviously all of us are aware of this process, but I have talked to a lot of more casual fans who have no idea that this is the process for tickets this year. Hopefully that will give us a little advantage. Trying to stay positive here.
  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2 tickets for one game per entry equates to about 60,000 "winners" for the NLDS. How many entries do you all think there were for this. I feel like there's pretty good odds that I will at least get on set of tickets. The suspense is killing me.
  16. As a pretty frequent better, my advice would be to not do this. Yes, good idea on paper, but money skews all sports affiliations. Thats why I never bet against the Cubs. Do you really want money to potentially change your experience when the Cubs are in the playoffs. Do what you need to do, but if you have money on the opposition, part of you is going to be rooting for the Cubs to lose.
  17. 1. Dempster 2. Z 3. Soriano 4. Aram 5. Soto Just doing a top 5 does not do this team justice. I want to put so many more on there. The best part of this team is that every player. 1-25, has contributed to us winning.
  18. If you are sitting in the bleachers, the price of beer isn't an issue. Yea, I know. The two statements are independent of each other. It's actually good they don't serve beer in the bleachers because the fans are crazy enough without it. I think it's pretty stupid. It encourages getting wasted before showing up and bringing in hard liquor. I've been out there when beer was available, and it wasn't that bad. You wouldn't bring your 12-year old daughter, but it hasn't gotten any better since banning beer. I don't think there is a worse place to watch baseball than in the RF bleachers of Yankee stadium. Those guys are the dregs of humanity and proud of it. I don't know how many of them can afford to go to the game. Couldn't agree more. They have this guy out there in right that is scarily similar to woo-woo, except his whole gimmick is to just randomly get up and scream at opposing fans about how many world series they have. I stupily tried to talk smack back to him and the entire section yankee fans were personally offended and wanted to hurt me. Off course the Cubs got swept that series so I really had no room to talk.
  19. I think its important to note that this article is purely fantasy based, as most Cubs fans probably don't care who has the most saves, as long as we're gettin them.
  20. 7 ground ball outs for Marquis. Definetly a positive. I find myself defending Marquis more than the average Cubs fan. The guy is so solid when he's on. If he could put it together for a full season we would run away with this division.
  21. Hasn't this been the knock on Cubs fandom over the past years, that their only support the team because they play in Wrigley. I love Wrigley as much as anyone, but I would definetly be at a bunch of games if they were playing in the cell. I would miss Wrigley for a summer for sure, but it would be a cool experience going to home games at the cell and frankly, would become a large part of Cubs history.
  22. I'm sure we have all heard the arguement from Sox fans that 75% of the fans a Cubs games are only there to hang out at Wrigley. Were this situation to happen it would be very interesting to see just how the Cubs draw at the Cell.
  23. If I were you I would try to stay as close to Wrigley as possible. This is just my opinion, but if your at a game all day and then possibly hanging out in Wrigleyville for a couple of hours afterward, the last thing your gonna want to go through is a commute to your hotel. I feel like you will get a lot more out of your weekend if you can stroll out of the park and hit a few bars on a walk back to the hotel. The Days Inn is near Clark and Diversey. Easy walk on a nice day.
  24. I can understand the dislike for Marquis, but the fact is that Marquis and Dempster are going to get their fare share of starts this year. Depth in the rotation is a great problem to have and the bottom line is Marquis and Dempster are going to help the Cubs get some wins this year. Do the Cubs make the playoffs last year if, say, Gallagher makes 33 starts? Maybe, maybe not.
