Well the thing is on a message board, you will almost always have to sell for a little less than half of the high book value, depending on the player and how much you'll charge for shipping. I recently sold a Jeff Samardzija Auto that booked for $30 for $14. A lot of people will also use Ebay as a guide for what cards are being bought for. But Ian Kennedy.. his cards aren't really THAT big, but his cards would likely be bought by Yankee fans on Ebay. It also depends on the BV of the card. Say you have an Ian Kennedy card that books for $100. On Ebay it would probably sell somewhere between $40-$50. If you have a Joba Chamberlain card that books at $100, it will sell between $50-$60, and sometimes higher if some random card collecting novice really wants it. Future reference, if you wind up pulling a printing plate of a player, which will be a 1 out of 1, don't get excited, they don't sell well unless it comes with an auto or if it's a good player.

Then where should you sell to? Oh, and if I'm you, I'm holding on to that card until Santo passes and ideally makes it into the HOF. There's plenty of message boards you can deal on. The one I use is http://www.sportscardforum.com There are several reasons not to sell on Ebay... 1) Unless it's a very high value card or a very popular player, there's no guarantee the card will sell for what you want it to sell for. I put two cards up on Ebay at the same time. One was a David Price autographed card numbered out of 50 (only 50 made) that booked for $100 at the time. I also had a Josh Vitters auto numbered out of 275 (or something) that booked for $60 at the time. The Price sold for $23.50, the Vitters sold for $26.50. 2) Seller fees were increased. A lot of card buyers and sellers on ebay were upset. A LOT. It even got so far as an attempt to organize a boycott. You sell a card for $80, you're gonna pay $5-$10 in seller fees, not including the $3-$5 you spent setting it up to promote it (bold lettering, highlighted search result, etc). At least that's what happened to me. 3) Your expensive card of the next big prospect in the Mariners farm system or whatever, won't sell for crap. Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs. Players on these teams will always sell for more money and far more often than any other team's players. Prime example, that David Price vs. the Josh Vitters. Yankees and Red Sox cards are ridiculous. After Joba's amazing debut of 24 innings, his cards were some of the most valuable cards in Beckett price guides and THE most valuable cards on Ebay. East coast bias exists in the world of baseball card collecting as well. Naturally, Geovany Soto cards are a hot commodity, rightfully so Those are my least favorite. Buying is good. But beware of fake patch cards. If you want to sell, try that forum I linked to, I deal on there and not only is it a good place to gauge interest on cards, but you don't have to pay seller fees, which is big. Plus they have almost anything you could be looking for. If you want it, chances are someone's got it

According to Beckett Online, your Santo card is only valued at $40 now. You may have had an old Beckett magazine. That card is also only worth that much if it's in good condition. If it has worn edges or any signs of deterioration, it loses significant value. Also if the centering of the photo on the card is off a bit, it can also hurt its value. But... if it's a perfect card, nearly flawless, you may want to consider getting it graded. It will costs about $20 (I think) to get it graded, but if it's a mint card and it is graded a 9 or higher, it will increaser the value of the card significantly, and it will also be (ideally) permanently protected in a case.

His power production has really taken a big hit, but he's still hitting and seeing the ball well it seems. I assume this would be to replace Rickie Weeks and his awful production

But do you all really think Josh Hamilton is a first-half fluke? I know his home road splits are one sided, but that one side is still gargantuan. You talk about selling high, but is he really gonna become a mediocre run producer the 2nd half? It's not like he was just some guy who broke out like Ludwick.

Platooning the fifth starters against predominately tough righty or lefty lineups I could see, but still be a bit ridiculous. Home and road is a bit odd.

I'm not judging but..... Geoff Jenkins dropped for Jay Bruce, Vance? That's odd.

Glenn Perkins isn't exactly lighting the world on fire, though he is better than Hernandez. Move him to the pen to make room for Liriano, let him suck in short bursts rather than long ones. Any way to get Liriano back into that rotation will be worth it. As far as the publicity comment, I'm right there with you

I think he has a legit case. I have no idea why the Twins haven't called him up yet, especially in the midst of a hot streak and a run at the division. It makes no sense.

Is DirecTV international? I can't imagine it's the same across the pond if you do get it.

Going into the break with 38 saves. Theoretically on pace for 76 saves. Probably won't get it, but I think he's probably a shoo-in for the saves record at this point, but anything can happen, so.

I would imagine he would give the Cubs a "hometown discount". I think he loves it here and at the same time is very thankful for the opportunities they've given him to succeed as not only a starter this year, but a closer the past 3 years. The Cubs have helped revive his career, I think he'd be thankful for that and would sign for cheaper than he would get elsewhere. I also do not see Marquis in the starting rotation next year, either he moves before the break or after the season. I don't see why they would keep him when he's got 1 year or a year and a half left on the contract that could be easily eaten up assuming we get a new owner who is able to spend money

This is sort of a long post because I'm at a crossroads... I'm in a league that drafted a month and a half ago. I was one of three people in the draft and had the 2nd pick. At the time, my team was stacked, filled with great players and great pitchers. Well, a lot of those players have cooled off, and my team is a little subpar, but the league is a little weird too and some people who have top notch players are in the bottom rankings, so. Anyways, enough of that... Categories are: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP for offense and W, SV, K, ERA, and WHIP for pitching Offense: Brian McCann Jorge Cantu Dan Uggla Kevin Youkilis Hanley Ramirez JD Drew Pat Burrell Mark DeRosa Jason Bay Joey Votto Ryan Ludwick Jim Edmonds Joe Crede My pitchers are: Edinson Volquez Brandon Webb Joe Saunders Mariano Rivera Kerry Wood BJ Ryan Randy Johnson Shaun Marcum (DL) Sean Gallagher Jorge Campillo. One guy needs pitching and everyone on his team is tradable except A-Rod. I'm last in stolen bases (a whopping 6 total SB so far into the league's season). Would you guys trade Edinson Volquez, who appears to be coming down to earth and not striking out as many people ands giving up more runs, for Grady Sizemore? My short answer is yes, because obviously Sizemore is fantastic and has shown consistency in his career, and Volquez hasn't been great as of late, and I'm selling high. That trade alone seems kind of obvious, but that's part 1. It would weaken my pitching rotation, but I'm thinking of going for the gusto. The guy who has Ian Kinsler has no good 3B. He's got Branyan and Gordon. I've got Crede, Youkilis, DeRosa, and Cantu who can play there. He leads the league in K's for pitchers, but is bottom tier in everything else. He's got 1 closer, but 5 relievers. Would you trade him Brandon Webb, a 3B, and BJ Ryan for Kinsler? Or a modified version of that? If I could get Kinsler and Sizemore, my offense would arguably be the best in the league, but my pitching would take a couple big hits. My pitching has actually been subpar thus far in the year, too. I'm last in the league in ERA and WHIP, and bottom tier in everything else except saves. The Volquez for Sizemore deal is a no brainer, and even the Kinsler is a no brainer, as separate trades. But would you do both and go for the offensive gusto at the cost of sucking out some potency from your rotation? Or a better question, if you had Sizemore or Kinsler, would you make those deals? The guy who has Kinsler also has Utley and Hamilton as offensive forces and the guy who has sizemore also has A-Rod, Howard, and Dunn as offensive forces.
