  1. He cleartly doesn't have the mental makeup to be a legitimate major league closer. They should trade him to the Cubs
  2. Not really free agent news, but thought this was worthy to note...
  3. Back followed by elbow. Should've googled it but I was lazy. Looks like he's got issues with TJS related symptoms, but they weren't serious enough for the actual surgery. That's kind of scary, but if he can be had for a cheap price he might be an interesting reclamation project. And if we do in fact hire Mike Maddux he might be useful to help right the ship on his career.
  4. Why did Parra only pitch 8 times this year? He have a bad injury?
  5. At least half of this thread is people posting about having erections, so it may not be the best case for being better than SoSH. Hahahahaha
  6. If you take advantage of his cheap years though you run the risk of him costing a lot more a few years down the road. Just a matter of personal preference. Personally I'd like to see him locked up early on to a Longoria type deal. guaranteed years at affordable prices with a couple of club option years at respectable prices. Longoria's options years are at $11 and $11.5 million in 2015 and 2016, when he'll be in the middle of his prime years (29/30). That entire contract with options is 8/$40 million. If you wait to extend Castro until his arb years when, hopefully, he continues to develop into a premier player, he will likely cost a whole lot more than $11 million a year. Signing him now is a good long term business decision.
  7. Matheny and Pujols wee teammates for 4 years, I'm sure they're friendly with one another and his hiring has no affect on whether or not he wants to return
  8. Is that report based on what Byrnes intends to do, or is that based on the line of thinking that Hoyer had when he was there a month ago? If Hoyer wouldn't trade him, then Hoyer obviously values him and might try to pry him away, yeah?
  9. Not sure if this was mentioned, might have gotten buried in the news...
  10. Ruben Amaro, Jr. needs to be [expletive] stopped
  11. I think he looks like a penis with a little hat on
  12. I know 22 is a little old for Class A... but Quintana's numbers aren't that terrible. Why did the Yankees let him go?
  13. Not at all. I've respected Pujols for pretty much ever. Dude is not only one of the 10 best baseball players ever, but also does tremendous community work. I felt much worse cheering for Edmonds. Like I said, it's just seems odd. No doubt he is one of premier players of all time. I also have a concern (and probably way off base here) that he will lose the fire now that he won his second title. He really does not have much left he needs to accomplish from a personal standpoint. way off base Yeah, Albert Pujols has a lot of pride in everything that he does. And as Tim mentioned, his charity work is something he's extremely passionate about and I doubt he'd let his reputation on the field go to crap. He's a role model and he knows it, and at this point I'm pretty sure he (humbly) knows he's arguably one of the greatest hitters in history and probably would like to stay that way. If he's going to fizzle out, it's lunacy to think he does it intentionally.
  14. Jim Bowden makes a bold prediction that Carl Crawford will get dealt to the Cubs at the trade deadline next year. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7213115&categoryid=2378529 Jim Bowden is an idiot.
  15. But like Erik said, they mostly kidnap their family members for ransom, not the actual player. That's what makes this seem all the more worrisome.
  16. I think that's my favorite part
  17. I was just checking out the Ryan Howard contract again. I can't believe Ruben Amaro, Jr. thought that was a good idea. What an idiot.
  18. That's ridiculous. Ruben Amaro, Jr. [expletive] up the free agent market yet again
  19. Am I the only one who is very "Meh" on Alomar, Jr.?
  20. In other related news...
  21. This type of tampering gets Moore a lecture from Selig. At worst there's a small fine. No chance the Cubs benefit from it though. That's what I figured. Oh well, worth a shot. I'm confused how any of this can be tampering. He's not having dinner with Z to discuss his future in Kansas City, he's answering a question about whether or not Z would be a viable trade target. Ozzie trying to convince Z about going to Miami is tampering.... this is a GM answering a question from a reporter.
  22. IIRC, Morrison hosted a charity even for his own foundation and the Marlins didn't really give him a lot of support that they had told him they would, and he felt a little slighted, and the team had to go to a charity event that the Marlins were putting on and Morrison didn't want to attend because of the disrespect he felt the Marlins showed him. I believe it was supposed to be mandatory, but Wes Helms, who was the team's player's union rep, told him he didn't have to go if he didn't want to. He didn't, they demoted him, and ironically they released Wes Helms a few days later I think.
