  1. For what purpose? If participation dwindles they may be forced to do it someday out of a lack of viable bodies to field a team, but I don't think there are "too many". It just feels like a lot of hoops to jump through to even start your 6 year clock. Even if a player "speeds through" the minors (i.e. 2-3 years from draft to majors), you're talking about a player waiting 8 or 9 years before free agency. No other major sport has such a long wait. Also, how many of the players at AFL/Short-A are viable prospects? How many warm bodies are floating in the minors? No other sport (outside of hockey, which has its own convoluted system of Junior/Minor league teams) has so many tiers of prospects below the big leagues
  2. His extension makes me so sad. Possibly the greatest player of our generation, forever mired in 4th place. Trout and Ohtani deserve better *adjusts glasses, breathes heavily, and speaks timidly* Actually the Angels are stacking up quite the farm system led by a guy on the shortlist for best prospect in baseball (Jo Adell) I think this year's team could be weird good if they get a healthy Simmons back and trade for like Smoak, Giles, and Stroman from the Blue Jays or something I hope they improve, as Trout deserves all the good things. It's a daunting task, however, in a division with a stacked (and still fairly young) Astros team and a competitive A's team, plus young and good teams in Tampa and Minnesota, AND stacked and rich teams in Boston and New York.
  3. I don't know what the solution is, but the huge differences between the four major sports can be maddening. Baseball players come in and make nothing for several years, THEN (if they get called up) are locked into their team's control for another 6 years. Even with arbitration, the earning potential of an MLB player's first 6-10 years compared to an NFL or NBA player is ridiculously low. People will argue that NFL contracts aren't guaranteed (true), but first round rookies are making many many times more than their MLB counterparts. Side question: are there too many levels of minor leagues? Is there any argument for condensing the three or four levels of pre-AA?
  4. Pirates v Padres had some next-level awful bullpen performances.
  5. Yep, if you're making $35,000/year, there's NO WAY you'll work hard to be a multi-millionaire. Solid logic

  7. That's the second time this game that Almora should have beat out a slow play to first. He is SO SLOW
  8. Is Rizzo a terrible base runner or the WORST base runner?
  9. deGrom is just going to pound that outside corner until people stop swinging
  10. Neither of the pitches Alonso has hit out this series have been strikes
  11. It's official: every Cubs starting pitcher is better than Daniel Descalso.
  12. [tweet] [/tweet] Also, Cubs activated Tony Barnette and optioned Rowan Wick to AAA
  13. They're under .500, but have a +51 run diff and a 3.54 team ERA. They aren't bad I know there’s a time every year we have to act like they’re a legit threat. But no, they aren’t good. I don't care enough about them to argue with you, but it's tough to label them as "bad", at least thus far. Time will likely take care of that
  14. Yeah but this year they are actually good They aren’t They're under .500, but have a +51 run diff and a 3.54 team ERA. They aren't bad
  15. This Alonso guy might be pretty good
  16. So, the Cubs lost another home Darvish start Let's put it behind us Time to fly
  17. But then Rizzo would die after that TOOTBLAN, probably doesn't deserve to live
  18. Heyward stands so far off the plate that he and Rizzo could bat at the same time
