because the stated goal of every professional sports franchise is to win games, but for this particular professional sports franchise, that's not exactly a priority The stated goal and actual goal are quite different. I don't believe the Pirates, Orioles, A's, etc. have any goal of actually winning -

People bitched and moaned about Heyward's contract for the past 6 years, so I guess....those people? And another long-term dud contract just gives Hoyer/Ricketts another excuse never to spend money again Yes, it's a made up problem by the owners. Yep, so why should we be surprised when they don't sign anyone? -

They could easily take that kind of hit if they needed to; other big market teams do it. People bitched and moaned about Heyward's contract for the past 6 years, so I guess....those people? And another long-term dud contract just gives Hoyer/Ricketts another excuse never to spend money again -
If Jed is truly spooked by 10+ year deals, it makes the Willson contract that much more damning.
