You might have answered your own question. Perhaps he didn't feel it was worth giving up the assets to improve a team that is in for another rebuild next year? If he didn't think Stroman/Bellinger would be back, if he saw that Patrick Wisdom wasn't a viable piece moving forward, if he thought that PCA/Mervis/etc. were more than a year away, perhaps he just punted
