  1. it's such an amazingly nice change to see a Bulls team that actually STEPS UP in the 3rd quarter instead of collapsing
  2. He should be further down in the lineup. In fact, he should hit where Izturis is penciled in and Theriot should be put in place of Izturis defensively and where Pie is offensively. But alas, tis not so. pie at #2 just reeks of "designated bunter"
  3. time to get the girls in their pajamas, hopefully get the younger one to sleep, then catch the opening tip
  4. i don't love a guy hitting below the mendoza line in the #2 spot
  5. You're going to have to explain that one to me. There are some situations where they are late and able to get the lighter bat into the zone at the last second and foul it off as well as the improved bat control can also foul off a pitch. So a switch to wood means the hitter changes the weight of the bat he swings? That seems counter-intuitive to me. ditto he'll have to switch if he enters pro baseball, so why wouldn't he want to be using the correct equipment his entire baseball playing life rather than having to make an adjustment if/when he is signed to a team?
  6. my guess is that the bat companies are giving WAY too much money to little leagues, high schools and colleges for them ever to go away (without legal actions, a la NYC)
  7. it's game #20, so I predict we'll see, oh, the 18th different lineup of the season
  8. So luck and managing have no impact on how many runs you score? less impact than the players holding the bats
  9. Your timeline's off by a couple of years. Grace was let go after 2000, Choi wasn't hurt and left on the bench until 2003. but wasn't he let go to make room for a younger, cheaper 1B. Julio Zuleta maybe?
  10. The Brewers have scored 4 or fewer in 9 of their 19 games and they're on top of the division. They're also 7-3 in games by 2 runs or less. and the brewers are as likely to win 70% of those games over the span of teh season as the Cubs are to win 0%
  11. to elabortate on goony's evil jersey's post, toss the "1 or 2 run game" out the window and look at this: When the Cubs score 4 runs or fewer, they are 2-9. When the Cubs score 5 runs or more, they are 5-3. the winning percentage isn't off the charts for the 5+ runs, but the alarming number is that the Cubs have score 4 or fewer in 11 out of 19 games so far. That's not going to win you games consistently no matter your luck/pitching/manager
  12. they should let the pros use aluminum bats during the HR derby. Imagine how far Ortiz or Dunn could hit a ball with aluminum.....600-700 feet?
  13. Shouldn't you be working or something? ;) What are you, some kind of slave driver or something ?? I'm what you might call semi retired. (that's a pun, son.) And just for the record, I'm on my way to go see the mouse. just don't want you to idle too long.... Idle....Idol.....yep, that's what I'll be watching
  14. I seriously don't even care anymore. Someone else can pick for me
  15. Pyth is worthless at this stage. It looks good thanks to a couple high scoring games. I've never liked its inability to account for feast or famine offenses like the Cubs, and that is just exasperated this early in the season. Take out the Cubs 2 highest and 2 lowest scoring games, and their average runs scored drops from about 4.6 to 4.3. The Cubs aren't having bad luck. They are a flawed team having all its weaknesses exposed. People keep talking about the 1 and 2 run losses, but the Cubs have lost by 3, 4 and 5 runs as well. When you are a bad team with a bad record, your record is going to be bad in just about every split. The Cubs need to drastically improve their play, not hope for luck to start going there way. to their credit, I don't think any of the Cubs have blamed any of this on bad luck
  16. being 4th in BA w/ risp isn't very useful when you never have risp
  17. You do wonder why broadcasters, fans, and East-coast media can see it, but Rothschild has yet to make note of it. You honestly don't think he has? noticed it? probably fixed it? no sir
  18. it has? It was moved. Then the need came for it to go away. oh great, now i'll NEVER know how the story ended
  19. it has?
  20. And more than one season has ended in April. I'll never understand why Cubs fans get so uptight when other Cubs fans start to panic after a horrible start to the season. The Yankees are 1/2 a game out of last place and just lost to those last place Devil Rays. Should we write them off too?
  21. i think everything on this list (besides cancer) can be classified as terrorism
  22. grace wasn't let go for McGriff. he was let go for Choi, who then got hurt, and then was left on the bench for mcgriff who was traded for about 6 weeks too late. I was super happy for Grace when he won a ring, especially since he was key in Game 7
  23. Oh stop....You know you'll be switching back and forth. i don't have mlb.tv, or EI, and don't live in Chicago, so I have no way to watch the Cubs.
  24. glad everyone sees these problems except Rothschild
