  1. Neifi vs. Macias
  2. i actually quite liked the 2004 team right up until, oh, mid-September or so
  3. funny how this sort of thing rarely happens on winning ballclubs.
  4. clearly, if you want to be a GM in this league, make sure "made game winning 3-pointer for Bulls in NBA Finals" is right at the top of your resume
  5. I mentioned Jeter because of the team, the rings, the liklihood that he'll own the all-time Yankees hits record (among others), etc. IF he stays a Yankee for life, his legacy is more or less guaranteed (esp. if they win another ring)
  6. I'd argue that there's plenty of people clamoring for a cut-rate, well run business though. There are plenty of "discount" airlines that are used pretty frequently. And there's plenty of room for budget hotels. I think that's a terrible analogy. Minor league baseball seems to do just fine. The CBA has managed to stay to remain in business. The CFL, AFL, and NFL Europe all are popular enough to support continued operations. I'm not saying he'll be successful. I just think it's a poor analogy. i think his point wasn't that people don't want discount airlines, but they don't want shoddy, poorly run airlines. People don't want a crappy league with bad players and kitschy marketing
  7. Colin Cowherd (gulp) made a really good point about all this today. He said yes, there is demand for more football, but not for crappy football. He made the analogy to the airlines or hotel industry; there is always demand for another great hotel chain or airline, but no one is clamoring for a cut-rate, badly run business in any industry
  8. competing for players with the NFL and Arena League and the CFL and NFL Europe
  9. The team cook has lseft out the secret ingredient in this year's pre-game buffet
  10. Not to mention the USFL in the 80's. They filed and actually won an antitrust lawsuit against the NFL, but were awarded $3 in damages (that's right, 3 dollars). Carrying a debt of $160 million that $3 didn't go very far, and the league folded after a couple of years. Trump was one of the owners IIRC USFL would have been fine if they had stuck to a spring schedule. as soon as they decided to go heads up with the NFL in the fall, they were screwed
  11. if the Cubs want to suck, I'll root for the Pirates. IT's been a real long time since they were any good, and, at present, they are more fun to watch
  12. Jim Rome says it's Bush, which means it 100% is not
  13. I agree. Its not like we have to be much better than .500 to take the division. Then you just hope you can get hot at the right time. A couple of small trades could probably help things. If nothing else let the firesale occur after Hendry is gone. I've been overly optimistic all season. I really do think they can take it but this team also looks like its quit. you have? You IM me every game acting like the sky is falling I wasn't aware laughing about how bad they're doing and talking about fake rallies qualified as sky falling. i'll have to cut and paste one of our conversations here sometime
  14. the Brewers are playing .333 baseball the last 3 weeks and we've gained one game
  15. no, Soriano12 is trying to bandwagon onto a good team, where we know he'll keep watching the Cubs anyways
  16. nah, our COBS will somehow go 6-4 or 7-3 and give Hendry a reason to buy rather than sell in July (but Milwaukee will go 9-1 and add two more games to their lead)

  18. this is Kobe's annual cry for attention. if he isn't stroked by everyone a little each year he gets ornery. someone get him his binky
  19. I think it's funny you called the NL Central a "conference." ;) and that you called third "second"
  20. how could I forget the Fake Rally? DAMMIT
  21. Oh, and since May 11th, the Cubs have had: The Phillies Game The Mets Game The Dodgers Game The Other Dodgers Game those alone would have put us at 10-9 instead of 6-13, and would have us at 26-25 instead of 22-29, just 2 out of first
  22. kick in the butthole?
  23. Milwaukee Brewers since May 11th: 5-14 Chicago Cubs since May 11th: 6-13 Right, so had the Cubs gone even 10-9 over that time span.....
  24. If we do a good job making it airtight, we'll know real quickly. You cant kill evil.  yet we keep trying
