  1. reality is that RBI are a team stat more than an individual stat. Theriot has 13 more RBI because (in part) he's had 35 more PA's with runners on base, and 28 more PA's with RISP.
  2. and Bradley's OPS is 45 points higher and his OPS+ is 13 points higher. RBI? For real?
  3. Lou's new closer, ladies and gentlemen...
  4. not only was Ramirez hurt, but Lou let Fontenot suck it up over there for weeks before letting Fox have a shot.
  5. So this is day 20 without gaining a game on the Cardinals? SWEET
  6. I agree with Bradley....it's probably much easier to play in front of 1/3 full stadiums where the 10,000 fans who showed up that night are too busy rooting for the hot dog race on the JumboTron to notice whether you struck out or not
  7. The Broncos went 8-8 when their point differential said they should have been 6-10. What more should Cutler have done?
  8. this team will be under .500 by the weekend
  9. Jeter hasn't been in a World Series since 2001 (and hasn't won since 2000), while Pujols has been in two and won one in the past 9 seasons. Using Jeter's "championship success" is pretty flimsy right now, though the Yankees look like a good bet to get back to the WS this year
  10. someone PM SweetZombieJesus ASAP
  11. Seems far more common in the NFL at any rate.
  12. I wonder if we'll ever see a major league manager who never played pro baseball.
  13. Jeter's comparisons are to some pretty good players (Sandberg, Pudge) but Pujols comparisons are to legends. I think it's clear who will be better by career's end
  14. Derek Jeter's "Similar Batters through age 34": 1. Roberto Alomar 2. Frankie Frisch 3. Ryne Sandberg 4. Ivan Rodriguez 5. Joe Torre 6. Charlie Gehringer 7. Johnny Damon 8. Roberto Clemente 9. Ted Simmons 10. Robin Yount Albert Pujols' "Similar Batters through age 28" 1. Jimmie Foxx 2. Hank Aaron 3. Frank Robinson 4. Lou Gehrig 5. Ken Griffey, Jr. 6. Micky Mantle 7. Joe DiMaggio 8. Juan Gonzalez 9. Mel Ott 10. Hal Trosky
  15. no, not to end the game. I didn't think he was being that specific in the quote string I had. but he did have one:
  16. Jesus, debbie downer. No one is saying it took incredible skill to make the play, it's just pretty cool that this is only the second time in baseball history it has ever happened. Didn't Asdrubel Cabrera just do it last year? No. That's funny, because there's a clip of the Indians announcers calling an unassisted triple play by Asrubal Cabrera in MLB 09:The Show

  18. Usually, I go to a stadium to watch a football game, not a huge screen, but that's just me
  19. In his contract year, probably a coincidence. He was on a terrible Nationals team so pitching to him wasn't that damaging. He had 46 HR and only 96 RBI.
  20. the loduca trade was a good trade; brad penny was a very good in a dodger uniform while loduca (despite the two subsequent all-star appearances) continued to be an average starting catcher. there are columnists in every market who will be old-timey and deride GMs like depodesta for not properly valuing "heart and soul" players like loduca, but fear that the media may not like a guy is no reason to cross a highly-qualified candidate off the list. Bill Plaschke had a bizarre hatred for DePodesta if I remember correctly
  21. I'll be driving to Delaware during the PSU/Akron game.
  22. last time I checked, football was the most popular sport in the country. I'm sorry that Track & Field isn't as popular, but I'm guessing that your school's football team is the only reason you track team is even funded
  23. oh dear lord
