  1. Full keeper league. My team is not going to make the playoffs, so I'm looking to waive the white flag. The offer on the table is: I give up Josh Hamilton and Chris Young (AZ) I get Justin Upton and Francisco Liriano Thoughts?
  2. Right, because acquiring the reigning AL Cy Young award winner was pure luck. Winning 100% of your games over a stretch longer than 3-4 games involves luck, plain and simple.
  3. And the fans enjoyed 95% of the season and were disappointed 5% of the season, while the Chicken Littles complained and made life as a Cubs fan worse for everyone 100% of the season. I'll take stupid optimism over idiotic pessimism every day. Then you may feel free to slap me on ignore, because what I consider to be reasoned concern you will doubtlessly dismiss as idiotic pessimism. Pretty much. Then again, why would I put you on ignore? You're my baseline. I know that if I ever get to that level of negativity, then I would make everyone around me want to kill me and sports just aren't worth watching.

  5. Almost as much as people want to whine about the impending doom every second of every day.
  6. Wow-there's about 700 miles of difference between realistic worries and Chicken Little stupidity.
  7. You'd think they were in a brutal slump and losing ground so fast it's hard to keep track or something. Hey, guess who has the better track record? The people predicting doom for the Cubs or the people telling them not to? 3-5 over 8 games. Let's just end the season now. Might as well. Hey-guess who is less annoying? The people predicting doom or the rational people who understand that an 8 game stretch in July means virtually nothing in a 162 game season? It's called a game thread. Doesn't make it any less crazy. Its like the people who use "I was drunk" to justify the stupid things they do at bars. Most of the time, its simply who they actually are without the inhibitions.

  9. :-k But yet you keep coming back. :good: What part of "impressed" is hard to understand? This is the place I go when I think I've become too negative about the team...it makes me realize I have a long way to go before Crazytown.
  10. I check this thread once a week or so, and am consistently impressed by the amount of stupid and insipid negativity regarding this team. Well done.
  11. Overuse He hasn't pitched since Sunday. You can't flog an arm mercilessly for three months and expect no negative consequences. A few days off doesn't change that. Oh, and ballgame. Season. Lifetime. What an absolute, total load of crap.
  12. Marmol had already been warming up when the tying runs were on last inning. Pitching him for one or two hitters makes no difference. Get over it and quit crying every time he comes in.
  13. Wow, I didnt realize a Cubs catcher ever put up a line like that. Yeah, you always hear Hartnett's name in discussions of Cubs greats, but I always assumed that it was in relative terms to the stats of the day. .630 SLG?!?! In 1930!?!? Yeesh. He was juicin'.
  14. Maybe he'll take you to the prom if you ask nicely.
  15. I really hope he succeds with the Cubs, but, ugh... It'll take a while to get over his STL days. That catch eased the process a bit. If Osama bin Laden could OPS .900 and play solid defense, I'd take him on the Cubs. I don't care where he was or what team he played for--if he plays well, I'll be happy. If not, get Pie the heck back up here.
  16. Really nice to see Lilly win with nowhere near his best stuff.
  17. I was certain they were going to keep up that runners in scoring position OPS that was 200 points better than their OPS with the bases empty.
  18. Dusty would have had him sacrifice Lee to third. Gotta get that runner to third with less than two outs, dude. No, he would have had him sacrifice with the intention of having him fail to get the bunt down in order for him hit the 0-2 pitch out of the park. Ramirez's last sacrifice was in 2000. He's not nearly the sac bunter Adam Dunn is....
  19. That play really should have been made. Not an error, but certainly a catchable grounder. Agreed. I feel like I've seen Wigginton let a lot of playable grounders whiz right past him. That's why he's Ty Wiggington. Its nice to have an efficient defense. I've decided I like guys who catch the ball. ...and get on base 4 out of 10 times.

  22. Wuertz needs to go away. Or get good. Which would be a lot better.
  23. I was a sophomore in college, living on Cornelia and Sheffield, and decided to ditch class early and grab tickets at the gate for that game. As a walk up (15 minutes before the game), I got 3rd row behind the plate, right next to the scouts with the radar guns. That was the last time I ever got seats that good as a walk-up.
