  1. Or not... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3917214&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines
  2. Just another reason I hate the Cincinnati Reds. I would rather see ANY TEAM win a World Series before the Reds. This includes the Cardinals, Brewers, and any team from the Northeast. Brennaman is such an absolute [expletive], and the same goes for MOST Reds fans (every Reds fan I know here in Cincinnati WORSHIPS Brennaman.) Enjoy Jacque Jones, Cincy!
  3. This is awful. I just came home from work and saw the news that Kerry's on his way out. I literally have tears in my eyes right now. I'll curse Hendry about this later for certain, but right now I'm just sad.
  4. The Biden impression is the one that's truly awful. Sudekis completely ignores Biden's most prominent feature: his squinty, facelift-induced eyes. Armisen has Obama's speech cadences down pat. Least funny SNL cast member ever: Amy Poehler. Don't even get me started. She does EVERY CHARACTER with that same, high-pitched, shrieky voice of hers. NEWS FLASH: KATIE COURIC HAS A DEEP VOICE!!!
  5. This is the first time I've watched a new SNL and thought to myself "this is really funny." As soon as you saw it was Bill Murray, you knew it was going to be about the Cubs. It was funny. If I couldn't have a sense of humor about the Cubs, I don't know how I could put up with being a Cubs fan. Oh, and Fred Armisen is about the only good thing about SNL. His Obama is spot on. And Obama and McCain wandering around between Brokaw and the camera was hilarious.
  6. That would be the trade-off. Trading drama and MLB revenue in exchange for the best OVERALL TEAMS getting into the World Series. Even if it were worth it, it's never going to happen that way. But there has to be a better way to do it than the current system.
  7. This is how I tend to think, but unfortunately it will never happen because of $$$.

  9. So, we're all sitting here bemoaning our fate, and talking about how the playoffs are a "crapshoot." I agree they are, but the NLDS could be a nine-game series and we still probably would have gotten swept. Does anyone have any concrete ideas to improve the current playoff system? I've thought about reconfiguring the divison setup, making the playoffs longer, the season shorter, but I don't know for sure if any of it would help. Ignoring what happened to the Cubs AGAIN this season, what can be done about the current system? Does it need a major overhaul or just some minor tweakings? Leave it how it is? What do you guys think?
  10. They had the best roster in the National League this season. How much better do we have to be compared to every other team in the league to ensure we don't collapse again next year?
  11. The sad part is, it wasn't just Soriano swinging through the low and away stuff, the WHOLE TEAM was doing it OVER AND OVER AGAIN for THREE STRAIGHT GAMES!!!
  12. Same story another year. Can't wait to see the blog entry in '09.
  13. I will boo that piece of [expletive] at every Cubs game I go to from now until that clown is run out of town. Unfriggingbelievable.
  14. Furcal really doesn't have superb "on base skills" though. I just find it laughable that you want Furcal, who has a .764 career OPS, but you want to relegate Mark DeRosa to a part-time role.
  15. Offense is what we need and that's what Fuk lacks. Even if that was the case, Pie fits that mold and is a true center fielder. You can't be that dense and pretend leadoff is not a need (call it whatever you want). Adding a table-setter takes Soriano out of that slot and makes him more valuable as well (whether as run producer or less of a cancer at the top). I'm all for going after Furcal because he is a good baseball player, not because we need a "leadoff hitter." That's the flawed thinking that got us Pierre. The "leadoff" hitter is only guaranteed to bat "leadoff" once per game. Having a good "leadoff" hitter is pointless when your "3-hole" guy is a singles/GIDP machine. We already have players that fill the role of a "table-setter" but for whatever reason aren't used there.
  16. He gets better year after year, but you just don't expect him to keep it up. Oh, okay. I'll take your word for it.... We already have a corner outfield spot freed up in right field. Move Fuk to center where his defense can make up for his lack of offense. P.S. "Leadoff" isn't a position.
  17. I don't buy that at all. We'll have even less competition in the Central next season (IMO). And as is becoming clearer and clearer, this playoff business is a crapshoot. That's what we say EVERY YEAR but somehow the Cardinals are always in it til the end and the Brewers will probably be there too. We have big problems in 2/3 of our outfield, 1B, and SS. Not to mention that piece of [expletive] in left field. If we make the playoffs next year, our fourth outfielder should start over Soriano. I am not joking.
  18. The fact is, DeRosa has been an above-average second baseman for each of the last three seasons, and has gotten better each year. What do you propose? Move Soriano to 2B so he can commit 53 errors next year, and then sign two high-priced corner outfielders? How do you suggest we pull that off?
  19. There is going to be very little opportunity to upgrade this team, save for a new shortstop. Whatever we have in center is going to have a hard time matching the production we got out of our platoon this year. We're stuck with Soriano and Lee. This was the year we had to do it.
  20. Yea, the answer is DEFINITELY moving DeRosa to the bench and replacing him with Soriano. You really should have Hendry's job, you're an effing genius.
  21. Good call. Lee was obviously the villain in this series. And there is minimal blame to be put on Hendry. He put together a near 100 win team that didn't show up for the playoffs. That's not on him. They played tight and coughed it up. No, Lee was the villain in the regular season. A first baseman with declining hitting skills, no power, and a double play machine. And next year he'll be a year older. And likely still our three-hole hitter. Pie should have started in left field. Soriano is a piece of garbage.
  22. This was the year they had to do it. You think we're going to get this kind of production next year out of DeRosa, Fontenot, Dempster, center field? Lee is on the decline. Soriano can hit 150 HRs in the regular season and then [expletive] the bed in the playoffs next year for all we know. Theriot sucks. [expletive] Cubs. [expletive] off Torre.
  23. I hope Soriano and Lee spend the entire '09 season on the DL. I hate Soriano so [expletive] much.
  24. Left field bleachers, section 301, row 6....Game 6. Those unused tickets will be a nice conversation piece for years to come...
  25. WHOOOIE! Theriot officially completes the cycle of Cub infield errors. Hats off to you all, boys!
