  1. We have nothing we're willing to give up that the Red Sox would want. They're looking at returns like Jeremy Hermida, Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier. Anyway, Manny isnt leaving Boston. book it.
  2. All I'm saying is having him on the bench as another left handed bat(assuming we dont give up a lot and hes ok with that role) I would deal for him. That bench is mighty crowded. Someone would have to be traded, DFAd or what not. If Edmonds needs to take DL time, then theres that, but hes feeling better, so he says. The only option is Ward. Maybe we could be packaged with Howry or Eyre and send them somehwere in need of a LH pinch hitter and crappy old reliever. Unless he would be incredibly cheap, its really not worth doing. Maybe as a waiver deadline deal for the roster expansion would be useful too.
  3. We won the game nobody thought we could win. We won the game we all hoped we could win. Now we need to go out and win the 2 games we should win. While Parra is no Sabathia or Sheets, dont underestimate him. Hes quietly become a very solid number 3 starter for the Brewers. It would be great to pick up a win here and let Harden lead us to the sweep tommorow.
  4. For a 120 OPS+, I'd give a couple of decent minor leaguers. Ibanez would force Edmonds to the bench and give us a heck of a pinch hitter. I'm not convinced Edmonds will stay healthy all year. I agree with you...Even if Ibanez isn't playing real well this year the fact that we could get another left handed center fielder in case of a Edmonds injury. He's not much worse this year than previous years. OPS+ from 2001 to 2008: 115, 122, 103, 116, 115, 125, 121, 120 What is OPS+ anyway?
  5. The Cubs are always looking at Ibanez. The only way hed be worth our while is if Edmonds is hurting more than we know.
  6. Seattle supposedly wanted Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner. Id be glad to send Marquis to them, give Marshall his rotation spot, and then bring up Wuertz or activate Lieber if hes ready to fill out the pen, unless something becomes available soon.
  7. Is Jason Marquis really any worse than Josh Fogg?
  8. Heres the latest on Wainwright
  9. Listening to Mully and Hanly this morning, Sox fans are sounding like we did last week. Once guy said their season is over. The general consent is to bench Konerko for Swisher.
  10. I dont think its anything against Eyre, unless hes injured. Its really just a case of Lou trying to get a better feel fo Samrdzjia. Yeah, hes looked great in his first few games. He made a few mistakes, but it happens. With Wood hopefully coming back in the not too distant future, Lou is trying to figure out if Shark is going to stay up, or if hes just the new guy that other teams havnt figured out yet. Remember, Ascanio looked great in his first stint up. We will be seeing an awful lot of Shark in many different situations between now and when Wood is ready. Lou needs to see if Shark is his guy with Howry being so awful, this could make Howry very expendible, maybe as soon as tommorows deadline. This was a perfect opportunity for him to pitch. Hes still available tommorow if needed, as are Gaudin and Marmol. Eyre is essentially obsolete as long as Cotts and Marshall keep performing well.
  11. Would anyone else agree that Kosuke should be kept at the 5 spot for now? It is where he had the most success, and while he doesnt have the power of Edmonds or Soto, he seems to perform the best there. I know its was just 1 game, and his triple would have been a single if it werent for Brauns comical defensive ineptitude, but maybe Lou should keep him in that sot, at least vs. righties. Maybe it will jog his memory about how amazing he was the first few months.
  12. The only thing I didnt like about last night was toward the end of the 8th, when Z kept looking down at his hand, and Len or Bob were saying that he could have been developing a finger blister. The last thing we need is another blister problem.
  13. If Fontenot can stay hot the rest of the season, I could see him getting the full tim 2B job next year and moving DeRosa back to the super sub role, or even making him a decent trade chip for the offseason. The cajun connection works well together, and even seem to feed off each other offensively. Remember Font was a 1st round pick, so the O's must have seen something in him.
  14. The minor league pitcher the Braves got must be pretty good, because The D-Backs offer seems a lot better on paper. I remember reading posts from here that Ohman was kind of a mega jerk. It might have been Bruce and I'm pretty sure it was somebody who either covered or worked w/the Cubs. I remember he was getting frusterated and making some unfavorable comments toward the end of last year. He was basically getting the Bob Howry treatment from the fans and media. Anway, I have a strong feeling that he'll end up on the Brewers.
  15. Im just curious as to what available players are going to get them going and help them storm past 3 teams that are far superior to them. Granted, Randy Wolf was a nice start, but where do they go from there? Rich Aurilia? Gerald Laird? John Grabow? Theres really not much available now that Colorodo has decided not to sell. They just need to wait for the offseason and grab a pitcher or 3 if they want any hope.

  17. 5 more runs and maybe Lou can give Howry an inning.
  18. Kosuke has been quietly coming back for us. Might I suggest keeping him at the 5 spot where he had his success early in the season?
  19. Well this has definitely been as advertised so far. Lets hope we can make our way into their bullpen. Surely they're thinking the same.
  20. Dear Carlos, We would all feel a lot more comfortable if you didnt do that anymore Yours Truely, Cubs Nation
