  1. I say give him a shot. He could be our Josh Hamilton. You never know.
  2. Reds Sign Jacque Jones, Daryle Ward By Tim Dierkes [February 5 at 2:28pm CST] According to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, the Reds signed Jacque Jones and Daryle Ward to minor league deals today. Jones, 34 in April, hit .147/.239/.207 in 134 plate appearances for the Tigers and Marlins last year. Jones played winter ball and had laser eye surgery this winter. Ward, 33, hit .216/.319/.402 in 119 plate appearances for the Cubs last year. He missed time with a herniated disc.
  3. Remember last year when he signed with TB, and the general consensus was that he was throwing away his remaining years?
  4. While I am glad that Murton is going somewhere where he might have a chance to make a difference, the best part about this deal is that it gave a writer a chance to bring up a rare Bip Roberts reference.
  5. 0.0 Felix Pie was traded to Baltimore. June 25, 2009 After an amazing start, Felix Pie is traded for Felix Hernandez and Ichiro. June 26 2009 Jim Hendry goes missing
  6. Has anyone been tracking him or have any idea how hes doing, because Ive heard nothing.
  7. Felix Pie .299/.450/.490b 25hr 96 sb Ronny Cedeno .325/.440/.500 20 hr Corey Patterson .365/.460/.575 35 hr(double A) Matt Murton .300/.450/.460 25 hr Mark DeRosa .350/.475/.600 42 hr Rich Hill 18-5 3.20ERA 230 K
  8. Barry Bonds, but but not until afterhe gets locked up.
  9. I guess they just didnt have enough old guys.
  10. Seriously? Seriously? I hope to GOD he takes them up on the offer, and I hope to GOD they get stuck with the 2008 Red Sox Manny who does what he wants, when he wants if he wants to.
  11. Marshall is a long man/should be starter Cotts is inconsistant at best. Joe Beimal should be the man for the job
  12. It makes you wonder if Omar Minaya is Latin for Jim Hendry. If I were Minaya, Id risk a 1 year incentive filled deal with Sheets over a 3 year deal with Perez, but we all know how Omar loves his latin players.
  13. They say hes somewhat of a goof, a Ryan Dempster type personailty if you will, but still, thats some harsh words for a poor franchise.
  14. Between Hill, Wuertz, Pie, and Cedeno, I have to think that we could have packaged some of these guys and gotten something more worthwhile.
  15. The have a kid named Murton whose supposed to be pretty good.
  16. debunked many times Maybe not Dunn, but we could have got a lot more than a PTBNL. While sophmore slumps do happen, nobody would have imagined that 2008 would be the trainwreck it was for him.
  17. I would expect DeRosa to come closer to his 06-07 Numbers than '08, maybe somewhere in between. I think that Fontenot would be able to produce that, and maybe then some if he were given the full time job, but when you have him platooning with career journeyman/utility player Miles, I dont have high expectations for the offensive production from second base.
  18. I hate being this negative, but I see no way that this roster is better than last year's. I liked last year's going into the season and was proven mostly right (though I never thought we'd approach 97 wins, I thought low 90s or high 80s was far more likely). I just don't see any possible way the downgrades all across the bench, the downgrade in the bullpen, the downgrade at second and the improvement in the outfield could translate to a better team. I definitely think we have a better lineup than we did opening day 2008. Better rotation too, especially if Hardens in. Bullpen and Bench are a definite downgrade. That could be a proble, as our bench was such a huge asset last season.
  19. I disagree about the lineup. We're downgrading at second and center, but upgrading in RF. If Miles doesn't replicate his career season and repeats what he's done most of his career, second could be a significant downgrade. I'd love Wigginton as well at this point, but I haven't heard a thing about him. Wigginton would be a great addition, but he's too expensive and probably would prefer to land a job where he might get more playing time. Whether we like it or not, Aurilia does the same for less. If anything they'll get a middle infielder, probably one that can play a decent shortstop, and Wiggingtons as much a short stop as Adam Dunn. No joke, if we do sign another player for the middle infield, it will be a Uribe/Neifi/Cedeno type. I still say I would have taken Vizquel on a cheap 1 year. I know his '08 offensive stats were laughable, but hes still one of the best defesnive short stops. Another possibility, if hes out there would be Cintron. Who knows, maybe Orlando Cabrera will be nice and cheap if we wait long enough. And not to sound cliche, but if we can get early 2008 Kosuke, it will be as good as a quality fre agent signing.
  20. If Guzmans at all healthy, I have to think he gets a spot, probably that of Cotts or Vizcaino. Also, I have to agree that they find a light hitting middle infielder and Hoff gets screwed again.
  21. Just out of curiosity, does Jake Fox have any level of competence behind the plate? Im assuming if he did, he wouldnt have been moved to outfield, but the depth chart has him as catcher. Hed certainly be an interesting possibility, especially since he can play multiple postions.
  22. Its not just about Bako. Last year, the power we had off the bench was one of thr strengths of this team. We had guys who could come up anytime and make something happen, be it Edmonds, Fontenot, Johnson, or Ward when he chose to be productive. Now we have a very weak bench, and Johsnon is the only one with any power, and we all know of his troubles with righties, although he seemed to be figuring them out toward the end of last year. Id love for Hoffpauir to be on there, but signs seem to be pointing toward an extra reliever instead, and he'll likely be the odd man out, unless they chose to go with only one backup middle infielder.
  23. Fontenot>Miles Ward/Hoffpauir>Gathright Reed/Edmonds>Reed Blanco>Bako ??? ??? Cedeno
  24. Operation worst bench ever is almost complete. Now if only there was a way to get ahold of Rey Ordonez/Ramon Martinez/Neifi Perez/Jose Macias
