  1. I see Gathright is 2-2 with a walk. If he can consistantlyget on base, he'll be a nice little weapon.
  2. Bradley already out of the game? Any reason in particular?
  3. As Ive stated earlier, Id be all about Beimal, especially for as cheap as hed come at this point. However, my guess is if they wanted him, theyd have at least reached out to him by now. Im assuming that they will first give Cotts and Stanton a shot to see how they look in ST, and the job is one of theirs to win or lose. As for Ohman, I know he had a good season last year, but I still have nightmares about the 40 foor curve ball.
  4. Cubs fans get our first look at Kadukora. Or listen. Or in my case, read about.
  5. A guy who will be lucky to land the last bullpen spot and another who will be starting the season in Iowa gave up runs. Theres always next year.
  6. Milton Bradley not in the lineup? Commence panic sequence.
  7. Semi-interesting tidbit I never knew about Joe: I know it's not the legendary Pete Rose, but rather his talentless son, but still.
  8. He needs ro pick Oakland. If he has any shot to continue playing, it's as a DH with the occasional spot start in the infield. With the Phils, he'll be on borrowed time, especially since Utleys supposed going to be back ahead of schedule.
  9. Odalis will no doubt get picked by some team slightly better than the Natspos for slightly more money. However Im just counting down the days until June/July when the Halladay trade proposals start pouring in.
  10. I really dont see Z as an injury risk and the main reason we got Heilman was as a backup if/whe Harden goes down, so Id say theres 0 chance Hendry even gives the matter any thought.
  11. You think that rotation is as good as Cincy or Milwaukee? Milwaukee? Without a doubt. Gallardo has the potential to be something special, but beyong him, Parra, Bush, Suppan, Looper is nothing to fear. Cincy? Its a crap shoot. The could eaither have an amazing rotation or an awful one. If Harang goes back to '06-'07, theres an ace. If not, a 4 or 5. If Volquez gives a repeat performance, theres another ace. If not, who knows. If Cueto gives them his potantial, theres a solid number 2 type starter, maybe better. If not, who knows. Arroyo has always looked brilliant one moment, and awful the next. If Homer Baily can hit his potential, theres another quality starter. If not, Micah Owings should be a more than sufficient number 5 starter. The difference between a mediocre Cubs roation and a mediocre Brewers, Astros, Cards, or Reds rotation is even if Z and Harden were to missthe start of the season, wed still be getting them probably get them back before long. Even if Milwaukee had the opportunity to trade for another starter, the question remains would they be willing to part with more top prospects for another rent-a-player?
  12. Even the worst case scenerio rotation of Dempster, Lilly, Marshall, Heilman, Samardzjia is as good as any in the division. Still, I wouldnt read too much into it. If they miss a few additional turns, then I might.
  13. With a 2.5mil 1 year deal, Id say they got a pretty good bargain, especially considering the Phillies signed Ibanez, whose an essentially identical player to a 3 year deal.
  14. I havnt even heard the name all off season, ad Im surprised nobodys really considering him. I know the guys a stones throw away from 40, but he would have been a great right handed platoon partner for Fontenot. He still puts up respectable offensive numbers, and hed probably come at a similar price as Aaron Miles did. I know it's doubtful at this point that any more moves will be made, but its still an interesting thought.
  15. In Miles case, I dont think it's a case of being overpaid. In years past, 2.1 mil would be a bargain for a player like Miles. Its more about patience. If Hendry waited a bit longer, he could have gotten a better player and not spent too much more money. Even if you look at Omar Vizquel. Granted, last year his offensive numbers were nothing short of dismal. However, hes still one of the best defensive shortstops in the game, probably of our generation. Yet he signs a minor league deal. While Orlando Cabrera is not a superstar, I would rather have him for 3 million than miles at 2.1 million. Hendrys problem is he seems to impulse buy. He knows what he wants, and he immediatly goes after it, not bothering to wait or bargain shop.
  16. Come on. It's OK, you don't have to like the Miles signing. You also don't have to reach for assumptions to display your distaste of it. How is it an automatic that "it would have been worth it?" The Dodgers invested alot of money in that middle infield and they have more questions than certainties with them for the money paid. Back injuries tend not to help players and a little guy with marginal power doesn't help himself with a wrist injury (at least in the first year after injury). Sure, there's a chance that both have big years, but there are enough questions about them to at least not fawn over their signings as if it was something masterful. $8 mil and a first round pick for one year of Hudson is not great. I dont hate the Miles signing. It just is what it is. A backup/platoon middle infielder. Im just saying that if we could have gotten something better for a reasonable price, we should have.
  17. I guess it's a win win then. If he doesnt meet the incentives, they only pay him 3.4 mil. If he does end up meeting all of the incentives, the have to pay him sinificantly more, but It will have been worth it. Personally, I think all contracts should be incentive laden. Im sure the Dodgers, of all teams would agree with that.
  18. what?? a max of 2.1m for miles versus a max of 8m for hudson? miles sucks, but i'll take his deal over a recovering-from-wrist-injury-Hudson everyday. especially when you consider the lost draft pick, had we have signed hudson. thinking that the miles contract looks worse b/c of this deal is pretty foolish. Its a 3.4 mil base with 380,000 in incentives, making 4.6 the max, so yeah, Id definitely rather have Hudson at that price than Miles at 2.1. However, it does suggest that if we wanted another middle infielder, we could probably get Nomar or Orlando Cabrera for the 3 mil range, which would definitely be worth it. God I hate talking about 3 million dollars like its nothing.
  19. Their rotation isn't really all that special imo... unless kershaw dominates Potenitally, it can be, with Kershaw and Billingsly potential ace caliber pitchers, and Kuroda not too far behind. especially if Jason Schmidt can stay healthy and find his way again. On their downside, they've been the poster team for bad contracts as of late, between Schmidt, Juan Pierre, and Andruw Jones, so if Furcal flops, and they do sign Manny to something ridiculous, and the end up missing the playoffs, it's going to look pretty bad for them.
  20. i would do it just so that we could frequently make the joke "hu's not on first" when he makes yet another out. Brenly would just love to use that line until he was court ordered to stop.
  21. Im assuming you're joking about Pierre, but all the same, it's probably a safe bet that if they sign Manny, Pierres going to be spending a lot of time one the bench, probably relagated to pinch running duties.
  22. They're 1 overpaid, aging mega slugger away from dominating the hell out of the NL West. With Ethier, Kemp, Martin, Loney, Furcal, and now Hudson, thats a great core they have. Add Manny in that mix, along with their rotation, that awful division wont know what hit em.
  23. For some low budget team? yes. for us? probably not.
  24. Former top prospect? DFAd? Couldnt cut it in the big leagues? Worked for Josh Hamilton and Carlos Quentin. Im sure a ton of teams are thinking the same thing, and someone will scoop him up and give him an invite.
