  1. I defintely get the feeling that this division goes down to the wire. I just hope the Cubs are still relevent by the tiem we have 8 games vs. the Brewers.
  2. So is the new pattern for every series going to be 2 crap games and 1 offensive explosion? Thats a quick route to a sub .500 season.
  3. Everybody but Jim knew that. No biggy, we only have like 3.8 more years left of him and were off the hook. It could be slightly worse though. It could be "Big Game Ollie" Perez.
  4. The difference being that DeRosa can play multiple positions competantly(2B, 3B, RF) to Fonts 1.
  5. Vitters is only OPSing in the mid .700s in A ball so far. Heres the real star of the Chiefs http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_543693.jpg Check out that that stash.
  6. correct! glad to see we're all on the same page here. It comes down to people's definition of "uber," apparently. Ultimate. Best of the best. The bees knees. We really dont have that going on on the farm. We'll see what the future holds for younf Josh.
  7. fox can't play third. at all. So that makes him a slight step down from Fontenot.
  8. How soon we forget 2003. To be honest, I never really followed the minors very closely until about 2005ish. I remember hearing about guys like Corey Patterson, Mark Prior, and Carlos Zambrano on the radio before they came to be, but I didnt know much about a prospect until they were major league ready. Since then the prospects I remember getting kind of psyched about Angel Guzman, Ricky Nolasco, Felix Pie, Eric Patterson, Rich Hill, and Ronny Cedeno, and these guys havnt exactly panned out. The only Cubs prospects since Ive been following that really panned out was Geovany, and he didnt even get it going until 2007. Even Theriot and Marmols minor league numbers never really jumped out at me, although I do remember them being pretty decent.
  9. The only reason trading DeRosa sounded excusable at the time was becuase it was supposedly necessary to get Peavy. After that, it becamse foolish. This is a guy who gave us 2 solid seasons, and was in his contract year, so you think hed give you just as much as he has the last 2, if not better. Trading high is one thing, but I dont consider 3 minor league relievers trading high on an guy who can give you offensive production and play multiple positions on the field. Also, Luis Vizcaino and Chad Gaudin should both be on the team and David Patton and either Jeff Samardzia or Neal Cotts should not. I know a lot of people, myself included were psyced about Patton during ST, but its normal for fans to make irrational decisions about a player based on hot or cold streaks, but a GM is supposed to know the difference between a guy whose never been past AA and a proven major league pitcher whose having a rough go lately.
  10. How come we never have any uber-prospects.
  11. that's pretty much what i took from that list as well. i'd take Edmonds over Gathright in a nano-second. The list of guys I wouldnt take over Gathright in a nano-second is very short. Still the only way they would take on Edmonds is if Bradley were to miss significant time or Kosuke were to have another summer collapse. Otherwise, your left juggling playing time between 3 quality lefty outfielders, and Reed Johnsons left rotting away at the end of the bench aside from the occasional pinch hit opprtunity against a loogy or defensive subbing, and while I dont feel that Reed is every day starter on a contending team material, hes too good to be a 5th outfielder. If they wanted to get real creative, they have some options. With Ramirez out (and Fontenot the only option at 3B), slide Soriano to 2B and platoon Reed/Edmonds in LF. You're basically replacing Miles' bat with Reed/Edmonds. That's pretty far fetched and obviously wouldn't happen. Just thinking outside the box, I guess. But that would be the worst defensive infield since 1887 when the Nashville Green Legs fielded a dying grizzly bear and a 81 year old drunken amputee.
  12. Im betting they bring up Fox, and at least give him a look at third. I cant see them making a trade for 11 or 12 games, or whatever Aramis is scheduled to miss. Maybe if they could find a guy who can play 3rd and outfield and get rid of Gathright when Aramis comes back. Mark Teahen could have been that guy, but it doesnt look the the Royals are in selling mode at this point. Eteban German could have been the guy, but hes long since been kicked to the curb, and Luis Rivas is on the DL, so there arent many options. The more I think about it, Mark Teahen could be an asset to this team. While his bat wont wow anyone, it would be an upgrade over Miles or Gathright, and while he would be an everyday starter, he could rack up PT spelling Ramirez, Bradley, and Fontenot when needed. The problem is, as long as Alex Gordons injured, hes probably not going anywhere.
  13. From RW Always good to give Reed a start vs. a lefty.
  14. Hopefully theres not much to this. I just assume Ram and Lee in the lineup vs. the lefty.
  15. Very accurate, as long as every player on every team keeps up exactly what they're doing for the last 88(or whatever)% of the season.

  17. Between Rauche, Felipe Lopez, and this Roberts guy the D Bags have more tatoos than a trailer park.
  18. Can they please not stretch Z out well past what they should so he can hit for the cycle?
  19. Every time Joey Gathright does anything, Jake Fox inches 1 step closer to the majors.
  20. How about Theriot doesnt try to get thrown out when he doesnt have backup.
  21. Im going to say the Cubs bats may be finally be waking up. Ill give them the benefit of the doubt for yesterday, as they were up against a true ace, and still ended up with 2 runs.
  22. 2 in 2 games for the little guy. Hopefully hes waking up.
  23. hey, how about that. I think Im goinmg on record as saying no matter how much sense it might make at the time, Soriano should never be moved from leadoff.
  24. They need to DL someone for him to come up. The problem is, Fox can only play 1B and maybe the corner OF. He's a righty Hoffpauir. There has to be an AL team or 2 taking notice of this guy. He can knock the cover off the ball, and can play multiple positions, though ineptly. Granted, hes on the older side for a prospect, but hes not ancient yet. If only hed take the time to tone up his defensive skills.
