  1. He may run like Hayes, but he hits like
  2. roar some wanted this guy too http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=3504 Gotta be honest...I wasn't one of em. Oops. Raul Ibanez has been Raul Ibanez for avery long time, and at the age of 36, theres no reason to believe that he will cease to be Raul Ibanez for an entire season. There's no reason to believe that a guy that's getting up there in age (for baseball) would suddenly fall off the table? It's happened to players that are better than Raul Ibanez. What Im saying is hes not going to keep up the 1.100 OPS pace all season long, and will ultimately go back to being himself.

  4. Good. these guys REALLY need a break. hopefully it buys Ramirez a bit of extra time to get better.
  5. i would say scott moore, but he hasn't hit much since we traded him. Scott Moore's gotta be out of options by now doesn't he? At least Moore was foolishly traded away for a worthless pitcher. Craig was pooed on by the organization from the second they drafted him. I forgot about Craig. He would have fit in perfectly with the murderes row of career minor leaguers we have in Iowa. Kroeger too.
  6. All I saying is that when it is said and done people in October Bradley will have reach his career numbers or surpass them, and the April struggles will be long forgotten. I know but I'm saying that if he ends up with his career numbers, that would be quite a disappointment. 100 something games of an .825 OPS isn't worth what he's getting. The we shouldnt have signed him to begin with. When you sign a verteran player you should expect his career numbers. If you get something more, then great. If Hendry wanted a mega slugger, he should have gone after Dunn. Yeah, he strikes out a lot, but he also walks a lot, and has been known to knock the snot out of the ball every now and again, especially at Wrigley.
  7. I believe it's Steve Stone who always says if you look at the career stats on the back of a veteran players baseball card, you can pretty much expect something similar for the current season. Thats all fine and dandy when it comes to Derrek Lee and Milton Bradley, who I think will be OK. Unfortunately, when it comes to guys like Soto and Fontenot, who dont have that kind of established track record, you really dont know what to expect from them. If May comes to a close, and these 2 are still struggling, it could be time to try and make a deal, preferably for a middle infielder with a solid bat.
  8. I suppose we have to wonder if there was more to the DeRosa trade than we know. Before the Peavy deal was brought up, nobody even though about trading him. Lou loved him, he was popular among team mates and fans. Hell, I remember how hard he was lobbying for them to resign Dempster. He clearly never had any inkling that hed be leaving town. Then the Peavy talks started, and DeRosa was to be part of a 3 team deal. Well, as we know, the Peavy deal fell through, and they couldnt railroad DeRosa out of town fast enough. Could there have been some harsh dialogue between DeRosa and Lou and/or Jim between the Peavy talks and when he was rushed out of town for some borderline pitching prospects?
  9. The real question is how much the Marlins would want because we can't afford to give up 2-3 good prospects for either of them. Cantu might be worth it. He can play all around the infield, and I believe hes put in a little bit of time in the outfield, not that wed need that. I wouldnt give up anything huge for him, but it couldnt hurt to see waht the asking price is. I suppose the next best option would be not trading DeRosa, but we cant exactly do that.
  10. What does this even mean? The "expectations" for Soto right now are generaly somewhere around "please don't be awful." Pretty sure he's talking about the manlove for Soto from last year. Where people would quote Geo 10 times. Fickle fans, very fickle. I can't wait to see these guys after Kosuke goes in a slump. Read the game threads, KF is a monster, once he goes 2-20, he'lll be a bum, and Fox should play RF, with Bradley beeing sccotted over. And yet again, people have reason to be critical or wary of Soto so far this year. This about as slumpy as a slump can get, if it's even that. He's had the weight struggles, the issues with his hand when batting and now the shoulder troubles. Offensively he might as well not even be in the lineup and now also defensively he's playing below adequate levels. Most here clearly did not expect Soto to repeat last year, but this is waaaaaaaay below expectations. It has little to do with being "fickle." Its not like hes knocking the ball into some hard outs. Its bad plate appearence after bad plate appearence. He just looks bad at the plate.
  11. Nobody was hitting in Daytona. They were no hit this evening.
  12. I wonder if the Marlins would consider moving Dan Uggla or Jorge Cantu. These guys always seem willing to move a player if the price is right.
  13. As much as Id prefer Jake Foxs bat, Im going to have to admit we need someone who can play a competant third base. Scales has put up solid minor league numbers for us, so hopefully he'll make the most out of his cup of coffee. As for Fox, if Joey Gathright continues to be as useful as a copy of Maxim, to Stevie Wonder, Fox will get his shot.
  14. If thats what happens, Ill be more than happy to look silly.
  15. Its just frusteration here. We have a legitamately good team on our hands, and they just keep getting hurt, and half the guys that arent hurt arent producing for crap. Nobody in the division even comes close to our pitching staff. We just need some stability and we need it now. If Lee, Soto, and Fontenot can stabilize as .800 OPSers, Ill be satisified, as the rest of the bunch should be able to take it from there. The 2 crappy games and 1 offensive explosion each series just wont do.
  16. I hate to admit it, but I have friends who are Mets fans. They want Big Game Ollie dead over in Queens, and Im not exadurating.
  17. In a perfect world, I could just fast forward this to august, and hope the Cubs are still rlevent in the playoff race.
  18. I dont know where youve been, but Soto was turned on about a week ago.
  19. And he can take the rest of these jokers with him.
  20. Soto is starting to become brutally reminiscant of Rick Wilkins.
  21. Soto used to do a lot of things that were fun to watch.
  22. The best part is, when we go home to face our nemesis the Marlins, The Cards get a nice little series againt the Nationals.
  23. The frusterating thing is, there are moves that can be made to make this better, and more importantly moves that shouldnt have been made. Aaron Miles should be Mark DeRosa Mike Fontenot should be Aaron Miles Derrick Lowe could have been Ryan Dempster Jim Edmonds, Jake Fox, or a monkey in a diaper and a turban should be Joey Gathright.
