    What don't you get? It makes sense to me. At least indicates that it is definite that he spends a month more on the disabled list and then a possibility for more. The may be indicates that it might not be so definite. They don't really belong together in the same sentence. However, it really isn't a big deal. The meaning was still pretty clear from the sentence. It's an injury, and a month is a long time. There's no way of knowing. May be suggests that is the case, and at least suggests it could be longer. Will be out for at least a month is inaccurate since it's possible it will be sooner. May be out another month is inaccurate since it's possible it will be longer. May be out at least another month makes perfect sense to anybody that isn't trying to make things more difficult than they need to be. The whole thing suggests that we may be in need of at least a stop gap replacement.

    I'd be a bit worried if the Cardinals got Holliday. Agreed.Question is what would they have to give up, and would they do it? Would they be able to re sign him to a long term deal? That would be bad news.

    That's a silly reason to not like it. What don't you get? The Pirates season was thrown away the minute it started. Seriously they weren't going to do anything. And McClouth wasn't the guy who was going to determine if they ever returned to contender status. The Pirates season ended the moment Bonds and Bonilla left town. Too bad the Pirates dont have any money. Imagine them with Aramis Ramirez, Bay, Nady, McClouth, Freddy Sanchez, LaRoche, and Ryan Doumit. The NL Central could have spent a lot of years looking up at them

    Colvins off to a god start in Tennessee, but whats happened to Tony Thomas? It seems like he was just in the mid .300s, and now hes down to .271.

    Between Fox and Hoff, I see one of the them as Lees replacement after 2010. Im not going to say 1st baseman of the future, just the immediate future. At one point, someone on this board suggested Ramirez moving to 1st once Vitters is ready to take over 3rd. Not a bad idea.

    What do you mean soon? He signed the deal 2 years ago. It expires in 2.5 years and yet he will still be Cubs property at that point, without the benefit of any sort of NTC. I don't know why people are pretending the NTC was the main thing. The main thing was the money. They paid him an absurd amount to stay away from football. Why are people pretending this guy would never consider playing for another organization? NTC are routinely waived. The Cubs were asking the guy to give up on his 2 sport hopes, and in exchange he took a lot of money and the right to deny a trade. He's been in the system 4 years now, but he's only got a couple months of major league service time. I cannot for the life of me believe he would turn down the option to pitch in a major league park just so he can "play close to home" even though Des Moines Iowa is nowwhere near Valparaiso. I agree, especially considering Oakland and San Diego would be more ideal places for a young, inconsistant pitcher to start his major league career.

    is green font always necessary? Anyway, I talked to him again, and he heard wrong. They arent close to a deal, but they are the favorites to get him.

    The As gave up Carlos Gonzalez, Greg Smith and Houston Street for Holliday this past offseason. I'd be surprised if Beane would take less than what he gave for Holliday. Do we have the pieces to match what the Rockies obtained? Hendry and Beane seem to have a good relationship. I think Hendry could pull off another one of his patented rabbit out of a hat trades. Remember, between the Nomar, Aramis, and Harden trades, the one guy we MIGHT end up missing one day is Gallagher. Hendry may throw foolish contracts at players, but hes good with trades when this time of year rolls around. Oh yes, Hendry is excellent at making midseason deals. However, this isn't a player that has come up through the Oakland system. This is a guy that Beane just gave away good, young talent for a few months ago. How bad is he going to look if he basically trades Gonzalez/Smith/Street for Fox/Marshall/Ascanio? I would think he'll have to at least break even valuewise to justify trading Holliday. I dont know too much about Smith, but I know Gonzalez is a top quality prospect and Oakland had lost patience with Street and he was on his way out of town regardless.

    Is Jake Fox still eligible to voted onto the team? I doubt hed be able to play, but hed still be voted in.

    Friend of mine at work tells me that according to ESPN 1000 that Peavys close to being traded to the Brewers or Cardinals. I havnt read that anywhere, and usually, MLBTRs pretty quick to pick that type of thing up. Anyone else heard that?

    I think you mean DHing and that would be Jack Cust. He's 33, but showing no real signs of slowing down offensively. Though he's had some nagging back (I think) troubles this year. Fox could be part of a deal, though, if Beane thinks Cust's back issues that have forced him to the DH role are temporary. Whoops. I did indeed mean DH. If Fox could play a decent 1B, I could see Oakland interested. Right now they have Giambi, but I dont see him there for long. Obviously, for Holliday, wed need to put together a package at least similar to the Harden one. I figure Marshall or Wells could be the Gallagher of the deal, with Jake Fox as the Murton and maybe Steve Clevenger or Tyler Colvin as the Eric Patterson. Some fringe A-AA guy could be the 4th man. IM asuming, much like last year we might get another player as well. Mike Wuertz would be great, but I doubt that will happen. I would accept Russ Springer though. It is doable. The question is, would it be more practical to go after more of a stop gap type of player like Atkins or Branyan.

    Colvin definitely seemed to be on the right track in '06 and '07. His '08 wasnt that great, but I could see him generating some interest. He wouldnt be a cornerstone, but he could definitely be a 2nd man in a deal.

    Kevin Hart is a few more solid starts away from decent value and I think Randy Wells could push his way into good value, as could Jake Fox to an AL team. Also Micah Hoffpauir should be considered at least decent value. Also, JR Mathes might also be in the thro in category. Greg Reinhard too. I guess it all depends on what you mean by as far as Great-Good-Decent in return value. Heres my take: Great Jake Peavy Matt Holliday Good Hank Blalock Aubrey Huff Freddy Sanchez Jorge Cantu Mark DeRosa Decent Garrett Atkins Melvin Mora Russ Branyan Adrian Beltre Ty Wiggington Kevin Kouzmanoff(being generous) Rich Aurilia(being really generous)

    Id only move Josh Vitters if Peavy was involved. Jay Jackson or Andrew Cashner if we could get an impact bat like Holliday. Anyone else in the minors, Id be willing to part with. Problem is, we dont have much else of interest.

    I often don't agree with many of your ideas, but this one I'd be all over like white on rice. I've always liked Atkins. Avoiding carbs? Or just a big fan of bacon? :glare:

    The fact is, that when a GM sees the oportunity to fill a blatent hole, he damn well at least look into it.

    Why? There are 102 more players on that list that haven't had their names come out. I'm sure there will be other 'stars' on that list. Sosa, Bonds, and McGwire were the main focus that started it all, so surely their names would be released.
