  1. Almost time for the Cubs bullpen to play its favorite game: How to Screw Randy out of the Win!
  2. I really wanted Dunn, because A. hes amazinf at Wirgley field, and B with a lot of contact guys in the lineup, we could afford to have a guy who Ks alot, but also takes a lot of walks. Really somewhat of a baffling decision not to sign him.
  3. More depressing than fun, actually.
  4. sometimes you have to take that risk, especially when we have the guys due up that we do.
  5. well, even if you go with Durham at 2nd and Font at 3rd, it gets rid of the Scales/Blanco nonsense. Still not ideal, but also an improvement offensively. But people's gripe with Fontenot is that he sucks defensively at 3rd. Adding Durham doesn't help that situation at all. You put Durham at 2nd last night and Fontenot still gives up runs Fontenot has actually been acceptable defensively. Yeah, that was an awful throw last night, but if we had nay kind of offense, it may never have made it to the 11th inning. Offense is the problem at hand.
  6. Again, yeah, at this time we might not have the prospects to get someone like Blalock, Huff, or even Branyan, although we probably do, wed just have to give up too much for a guy wed only need for another month. However, with someon like Aurilia or Betemit, I doubt the Giants would ask much for Aurilia, and Betemit would be pretty much for nothing. As for Durham, Font would stay at 3rd and Durham would take 2nd. Yeah, we have a lot of 2nd baseman, but Id trade the lot of em for a new Gator Aid machine so Z could use the old one as a bunching bag.
  7. Either hes not tryig or hes aiming too high. I refuse to believe that if he was really trying to get a stop gap, he couldnt get someone like Aurilia or Betemit or sign Durham. Maybe he tried to low ball for Branyan, Huff, BLalock or someone, and the teams arent bitingm but we all know how good Hendry can be when it comes to trading, and if he were really trying, he would have had something by now. Its been long enough since the need was made obvious.
  8. Kouzmanoff is better than the type of guys I'm talking about. And he'll likely cost far too much in prospects for the value he'll bring the team. i know Which brings us full circle to the fact that as soon as they realised how much time Ramirez woud miss, they should have signed Ray Durham. The way things stand now, Miles will be back probably Wednesday and he'll take over 2nd, Font stays at thrid and thats just the way it will be when Ramirez comes back. When the trade deadling comes along, depending on where we are and what we need, Hendry will do something, whether its a Harden or Aramis type awesome trade or a Traschle/Monroe type trade for the sake of making a trade.
  9. If I could magically rid this board of one thread, it would be this one. Yeah, the contracts idiotic, but saying you cant win a world series with him is nonsensical. When hes hot hes hot, and we love him. When hes bad, and yes, he is currently particularly bad, everyone blames him for all the worlds problems. We have a lot of guys on this team, who if they dont start producing we wont have to worry about winning a world series or getting to October for theat matter.
  10. Wells is due for a bad outing, but hes also due for a win. Wells gives up 5 runs in 5 innings but his offense, thats also due comes through and the Cubs win 8-6.
  11. I completely forgot about Koskie. How huge could he have been?
  12. Kouzmanoff is better than the type of guys I'm talking about. Then please, say who you're talking about. Who should they get to fill this one month void until Ramirez is back? Id be all for throwing up a prayer with Rich Aurilia. Granted, hes not what he once was, or even what Jose Macias once was, but at least theres the off chance of catching lightening in a bottle for a month, and we wouldnt have to give up much.
  13. I really feel that we could get a Branyan or something like that without giving up too much in return, but the fact of the matter is, if guys like Lee, Soriano, Bradley, and Soto dont start really pulling it together, its not going to do us a hell of a lot of good. With or without Ramirez, we have an offense that should be worth more than 2 runs a game. We have the talent. Its not like were trotting out a bunch of 37 year olds. The Cubs were built for the scenerio of an injury or a slump of a top player, even 2, but when this many guys are either hurt or flat out not doing there job, youre not going to win many games no matter what your pay roll looks like.
  14. Wait, there's no trade to be made right now? None of us are talking about getting some great third baseman. We're talking about somebody who can actually play third base for a major league team. Don't act like that's so hard to find. As for me saying I wouldn't give up prospects for a win move... I never said that. I said I wouldn't do it for a rental player like Holliday Who's going to trade with you, and who's the target that's good enough to be worth parting with worthwhile prospects for? I don't really want to part with Casey Coleman or Tony Thomas because our underachieving offense hasn't started to pick up for the loss of Ramirez(who's probably back actually playing third base for a major league team after the all-star break), especially when they are very likely to begin doing so over the next few weeks. My apologies for misattributing you, although a bullpen arm would in all likelihood be a rental(and again, cost a heavy premium).
  15. Enough arguing. the Reds and Cubs are both mediocre baseball teams. There, settled.
  16. Right now, weve got an entire lineup of under producers, and its sickening. Scales and Blanco arent much worse than Soriano and co. We need more than Russell Branyan if were going to keep our heads above water. At this time, this is the Brewers division to win or lose.
  17. Historically, Derrek has always heated up in June, pretty much up until 2005.
  18. My guess is that if we really want to get Branyan sooner than later, as long as we have a few extra mil laying around, the key to the deal could be to offer to take the contract of Batista or Washburn off their hands as well, both of whom theyve been unsuccessfully trying to shop for a while now. Granted, we dont need Washburn, and Batista would basically be Luis Vizcaino V2, but if it necessary to get a deal done, go for it.
  19. Then it might just have to be the big deal as opposed to going after someone like Peavy if the Cubs want any kind of a shot of winning it all this year. Right now, the big bat is what we need. Starting pithing is our strong suit. However, I dont think Holliday is in the cards, more like an Aubrey Huff or Hnk Blalock, but you never know what Jim can pull off. Mid season trades are where he shines.
  20. Keep in mind, without Lee, Ryan Theriot might be on his way to the major league record for throwing errors, and Aramis would definitely have his share as well.
  21. His family probably has a picture of Jesus on one side of their mantle and Jim Hendry on the other. agreed. What a idiot Hendry is. Zambrano sucks He's not half the pitcher Kyle Lohse is. I would've rather given that money to Jason Marquis. Im not knocking the deal. Im just sayig he'll be able to retire in his early 30's with more money than everyone on this board will collectively see in our entire lives. Must be nice.
  22. Reading the article, it definitely sounds like hes serious and wants to spend time with his family. However, I coul see him unofficially retiring for a year or 2 an them making a comeback after that.
