  1. Matt Hollidays probably the top prize. Jake Peavy and Eric Bedard are both in there as well, but is questionable if either will be available by then. DeRosas appeal is his versatility, and the teams in need all need an infielder more than an outfielder, most notably the Cardinals(3B or 2B), Brewers(3B or 2B), Cubs(2B) and Mets(1B or 2B), and DeRosa can fill any of those. Ok, maybe top prize was the wrong term. But I think he's getting the most interest as far as number of teams pursuing him. Which is why The Cubs should have kept him around and understood his true value. I knew lasy year was a career year, but you also have to assume that hed try to do his best to capitilize on last years numbers with this being his contract year. Stupid Hendry.
  2. Im just going to throw this out there: Micah Hoffpauir for Felipe Lopez. Not a ground breaking deal, but it could fill a hole for both teams. Lopez is on a 1 year deal. Hes no DeRosa, and while hes only OPSing around .750, hes avg. is at .300, which is all you need for an 8 hitter, which is what hed probably be, and at worst, a platoon with Font eve though he is a switch hitter, I believe. Meanwhile, The D backs are down there starting first baseman in Connor Jackson, so theyve been forced to use Mary Reynolds at first and Eric Byrnes broke his hand last night, so down goes a starting outfielder. I dont know what kind of return the Backs are expecting for Lopez, but they're not going to get any kind of top prospects in return for him, and at most a pair of solid AA or below guys. And if they want to make it interesting, we could also swap Aaron Miles for Jon Rauch, both guys making similar dollar mounts next year, and both guys have dissapointed there current teams. OK, I wouldnt exactly call Miles a dissapointment, becasue we didnt expect anythig out of him, but you know what I mean.

  4. Its hard to blame the Indians for putting such a high price tag on DeRosa. Theres a lot of teams in need of a player just like him who can play multiple positions and really hit the ball. Any GM who doesnt understand how valuable a player like that is has no business holding the job.
  5. The problem isnt so much that it could have been avoided, its that it could be rectified sooner than later, but Hendry is being an idiot about it.
  6. First Gorzo goes down, now Snell. Thats pretty huge. They had a lot of stock in the rotation of Gorzo/Snell/Maholm/Duke
  7. What are "core players" for the Royals? Probably the rotation, Soria, and Gordon?
  8. Gregg, Miles, Stevens, Gaub, and Archer for DeRosa and Wood
  9. Reacquiring doesn't solve everything, but it put certain players back into roles they are better suited for. (ie Fontenot back as backup 2B). It solves a lot. If we have Fox at 3rd and DeRo at 2nd, were back to afromidable, be it very right handed offense. Soriano LF Theriot SS Lee 1B Bradley RF DeRosa 2B Fox 3B Soto C Fukudome CF Pitcher With this lineup, if they dont produce, its their own damn fault. Please ask what the damn Induians want and stop waiting around. The Brewers and Cardinals clealry have no interest in this division, and we need to strike now.
  10. While it does suck to have to scoreboard watch this early on, if this Cubs team can finally pick it up, especially wehn Aramis returns these NL Central teams may very well end up being very sorry that they didnt bury us when they had the chance. This is a division that nobody has any interest in winning, and the Cubs are talented enough to take it and be in first as soon as the ASB. The eight games before the all star break against the Crew and Cards will decide our fate. Potentially. If we go 7-1 or 6-2, or alternately 2-6 or 1-7 they could, but if we do a 5-3 or 4-4 job, we'll pretty much be were we are now.
  11. his sneaky power snuck away.
  12. Have you ever swung at a fastball in the dirt? Have you ever swung at a fast ball in the dirt...on weed?

  14. Right now, it should be crystal clear to even a deaf, dumb, and blind kid who cant necessarily play a mean pin ball that our biggest need is a second baseman. Every regular on the team has shown that they desrve to be here at one point or another aside from Fontenot, except for that 1st game. Maybe Ryan Freel is a temporarly answer, but If Im Hendry, Im on the horn seeing what the Indians want for DeRosa, the Marlins want for Uggla, The Pirates want for Sanchez or any other potentially available second baseman. Fontenot is basically Neifi Perez at this point.
  15. Any truth to the rumor that Fox is demanding a trade back to Iowa?
  16. The Cards just lost to the Mets forfeit lineup, and the Brewers are down 4-0, so hopefully we dont lose any ground, although I am getting sick of being satisfied with thatwhen we should be about 5 games in 1st.
  17. It enhances things, but performance isnt one of them.
  18. The frustrating part is that anyonewho decided they wanted to take this division could have it easily. Yes, even the Pirates. A Cubs team firing on all cylinders would be at least 5 games in 1st.
  19. we have 1 inning to make something happen before Zumaya and Rodney blow these hapless losers away. Unfortunately, Fukudome, Hill, and Blanco are due up, so were doomed.
  20. If he can play 3rd, why not 2nd? Slide him over there when Ramirez gets back...how much harm could it do? a lot.
  21. Is it going to take a Nancy Kerrigan type incident to get Fontenot out of the lineup, because I assure you, there is a plentitude of people willing to make it happen.
