  1. Meh, the minute things stop going his way or somebody looks at him wrong he'll be back to beating up Gator Aid coolers and hurling fastballs at people.
  2. The Braves dealt Rafael Soriano to the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday in exchange for right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez, whom the Rays landed in the Akinori Iwamura deal earlier this offseason, according to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Ah, the constant shuffling of relief parts -- confused yet? I figured everyone would know which Soriano We can still hope, cant we?
  3. Sounds like it will be Pat The Bat aferall, and we'll either flip him to an AL team or use him as a really expensive Jake Fox and then sign some garbage like Byrd or Podsednik.
  4. I wouldnt call stopping following the Cubs because of Bradley racist, but Id call it kind of crazy.
  5. I suppose we could make a spot for him at first and see how it works out, assuming he impresses during ST Im assuming that the only guarantees on the pitching staff to start the season are Z Dempster Wells Marshall Gorzo Grabow Marmol Guzman That leaves 4 spots between this guy, Shark, Gray, Berg, Stevens, Gaub, Caridad, Diamond, Atkins, any new pickuos or anyone else who should happen to impress during ST. Im not opposed to giving this guy a shot as long as they dont do what they did with Patton and refuse to give up on the experiment no matter how bad he is.
  6. Its all in this thread. http://northsidebaseball.com/bridge/index.php?f=3&t=55273&rb_v=viewtopic I dont know the exact requirements, but its minor leaguers who have been in the organization a certain amount of time without ever being on the 40 man(or maybe the 25 man) roster. Steve Clevenger, Jeremy Papelbon, and Chris Robinson were among our non protected players. None were taken.
  7. Im proud of myself for not titling a thread Mariners aquire Texeira from Yankees.
  8. Its not like any of our already mediocre division rivals have made any massive moves. Sure, if the Cards re sign Holiday or get Bay, that could make them an easy favorite, but other than that, the NL Central will be business as usual, and I wouldnt go and give up on the season. Jim Hendry has made a mess, but we still have a team that should be able to compete barring another big time injury. The NL Central just wont be "The Cubs and everyone else" as it was predicted to be last year.
  9. Bumped because todays the day. Im expecting Papelbon to be snagged, and possibly Clevenger and Lalli, however, I wouldnt be surprised if theyre all back by the end of ST. MLB.coms Rule 5 article lists Clevenger as one of the most likely guys to be taken. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091209&content_id=7783398&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  10. Gotta bless their hearts for trying. Watch this spring as the former ROYs fall from grace is completed as he battles Ronny Cedeno for the Pirates SS job.
  11. and we couldnt have at least offered the guy arbitration.
  12. 7.5 Mil. Wow, so for 7.5mil, we could have had 1 year of a potential ace or 2 years of a run of the mill left handed middle reliever. Love ya Hendry.
  13. The mystery team is....drumroll... Im guessing this takes them out of the Ben Sheets sweepstakes. They couldnt possibly want to potential aces whose arm could fall off at any moment, could they? It makes sense, as they just shipped Milwood to Baltimore.
  14. Ive come to the conclusion that this off seasons Roberts/Peavy will be none other than Milron Bradley, but instead of spending it trying to aquire a player it will be trying to dump the player, and by the end of the offseason, he will still be a Cub.
  15. Gotta love the "mystery team". Theyve been quite active the past few days.
  16. Screw this, Im going to go out on a very short limb and say we wind up with Pat Burrell by the end of the week and spend the rest of the offseason deciding what to do with him.
  17. I wouldt have traded Aaron Miles for Silva if the Mariners agreed to pick up both players salaries, but luckily, I think that rumor is dead in the water.
  18. I really hope the entire Cubs brass isn't obsessing with moving Bradley as much as Bruce (and others) are making it seem. This has Sammy Sosa written all over it, to a lesser degree. Except Sammy had little to no value. And neither does Bradley, thanks to Lou Piniella, Jim Hendry, and a bunch of player who couldnt keep their moths shut.
  19. it's pretty much a gaurantee that both of those things won't happen. the cubs are either going to have to eat a huge chunk of his contract, or they're going to be taking back a bad contract. Or of course they could just keep Bradley, but thats just crazy talk.
  20. If we can find someone who will take his contract(at least 80%) and we don't have to take the same one back, I'm pleased. I just hate the thought of paying $11-18M for him not to play for us. Id say we'll be lucky to get 40% back.
  21. On the day that a Bradley deal to a surprise team is supposedly likely, lets recap all of the rumors and propoals that have swirled round: To Atlanta for Lowe or Vazquez: not so much a rumor as one writers proposal. To the White Sox for Scott Linebrink: just a proposal from a writer, thank GOD Toronto for Vernon Wells just so Jim Hendry can say he is the proud possessor of 2 of the worst contracts in baseball history 3. way w/ Blue Jays and Mets with MB going to Toronto, Overbay to the Mets and Castillo to Cubs same thing with Tampa, only substitute Burrell for Overbay To Mets for Oliver Perez(early proposal) to Tampa straight up for Burrell and figure out what to do with Burrell later To Texas, possibly for Kevin MIllwood to KC, possibly for Gil Meche to Seattle for Carlos Silva to the Angels for Sarge Jr.(writer proposal, never really a rumor) to the Giants for Aaron Rowand(I think it was just a proposal, never an actual rumor) to the Padres for unknown Am I missing any?
  22. I wonder if Delmon Youngs a possibility. The Twins would indeed be a surprise.
  23. I dont know about all that. I could see him accepting a platoon or 4th outfielder role, but Id imagine a lot of teams out there would offer him a big league deal.
