  1. Well good. Enjoy Carlos Silva, Scott Podsednik, and a 3rd or 4th place finish. Merry Christmas from the fat man(not Santa)
  2. If I thought that there was some chance that Podsednik could be a competant defensive player. I I thought that last year wasnt a fluke and Podsednik wouldnt spend more 80% of the season on the DL. If I thought that wed get 2005 Scott Podsednik, maybe. But this is a broken down player. He cant even almost play center field anymore. He could barely manage left field last year. All of the sudden, Marlon Byrd is starting to look like an amazing option. As far as Im concerned, If Hendry signs Podsednik, he should be fire before the ink dries. Sam Fuld is a much better fielder than Podsednik, les of an injury risk, and can probably put up comparable, if not better offensive stats.I can undertand not giving your own guys a chance when you have a better option, or more importantly the money for that option, but we dont, so theres no reason for this money to burn a hole in Hendrys pocket. Spending 6 mil on the same guy you have for league minimum is inexcuseable. If nothing else, work with Fuld and Colvin, and if it doesnt work, make a summer trade. At this point, I cant fathom how there could possibly be any Hendry supporters left out there. Maybe its time for Ricketts to stop celebrating his purchase and pay attention to the team and the guy whose destroying it. Hint: It aint and never was Milton Bradley.
  3. My guess is that hes out of our budget, or surely, we would have heard his name come up in the discussions. On the other hand, I supose if Soriano and Soto can rebound from their dreadfull 2009, we could do worse than Marlon Byrd as a #7 hitter.
  4. Aramis getting injured: not Miltons fault Soto getting fat: Not Miltons fault Soriano being hurt and bad: not Miltons fault Lou and Jim putting too much stock in Mike Fontenot: not Miltons fault The October 2008 Epic Fail which caused Lou and Jim to panic and revamp the best Cubs team any of us have ever seen: Not Miltons fault.
  5. Nutshell, meet Jim Hendry's offseason. I gave Jim Hendry the benefit of the doubt last year with the ownership change and desperate economic conditions. This offseason is inexcusable. Rich Harden and Milton Bradley turned into Carlos Silva and maybe Marlon Byrd. Read that last sentence again. Kinda like how Jim Edmonds and Mark DeRosa turned into Milton Bradley and Aaron Miles last off season right? Got rid of DeRosa and Marquis to be able to sign Bradley. Signed Miles to replace DeRosa. Got rid of Bradley for Silva, so we can afford Byrd. I can only assume next year we'll shed Byrd for God knows what kind of awful. If only Hendry could have left well enough alone after '08, but no, those 3 games in October showed all of the flaws of a 97 win team, and revamping was a must.
  6. So basically, we trade a good but overpaid player for a horrible, overpaid player so we can free up a few mil to sign a mediocre player. Brilliance.
  7. Unfortunately, cheapseats failed to mention that while Jedi are good at many things, making trades are not one of them.
  8. Is he an idiot or was that a misprint? That would be classic.
  9. Another sickening factor is the Pat Burell has a much better contract than Silva, so is we were going to get rid of Bradley and end up paying the same amount of money either way, Id much rather have Burrell as a bat off the bench than a piece of crap like Silva anywhere near the mound.
  10. I suppose if we miraculously were to get Morror in the deal, it wouldnt help as much. After all, Bradley has his problems, but is still a good player, and Silva, well, isnt.
  11. And dont forget Aaron Miles is gone, so we automattically have a better team. How did Jim Hendry manage to undo all of his disaterous 2008 offseason moves and still make the team significantly worse?
  12. Ill give Hednry 2 weeks to pull off a corresponding miracle move before organizing an angry mob to visit his home.
  13. Is it pretty safe to say that Hendry hate is at an all time high?
  14. As much as i like the guy, Bruce Levine has really annoyed me this offseason. He continues to defense Hendry and acts as if this mess isn't hendry's fault. And then you have him updating ESPN 1000 every so often by saying he expects a bradley trade within the next few days. Yeah, I'm not going to get too excited about this one unless it actually happens. I was just looking at Carlos Silva's stats. His contract has to be one of the worst ever. His stats look like a career AAA pitcher, to me. The worst thing about Silva is that even his stats when on the Twins were mediocre at best that got hism his current contract.
  15. If we do, and it isnt the nail in Hendrys coffin, I dont know what will be.
  16. Its just too bad that they're too dumb and stubourn to give him at least another half season to prove himself. If nothing else, his trade value cant possibly go down. Love the team, hate the organization.
  17. After missing out on Milton Bradley, the mystery team moves on to plan B
  18. Surely they have a few bucks laying around. Have they really splurged on anything since Miguel Tejada?
  19. If giving up Vitters, Colvin, and another prospect, may as well go for broke and see if TB still has interest in moving Crawford.
  20. Yeah, because that has everything to do with eliminating the DH. hey, the rules say 9 players and 1 coach. If we're going to be literalist about it. (yes i made up that word [yes it rules]) If a man gets injured, you get someone out of the stands to fill in or play with 8. And of course, any ethnics will be sent back to their own leagues. edited to green to avoid trouble :-))
  21. Its very doubtful but for the sake of arguement: Cubs get Ellsbury Sawx get Gonz Pads get Bradley, Cubs+Sawx prospects
  22. A. It would be nice B. absolutely C. depends on what theyd want
  23. Wow, the Jays are getting Drabek and Wallace, argueably 2 of the top 10 prospects in the game. Thats a pretty good return for a guy who had no intention of re signing with them next year, especially in a season in which they had no chance of finishing better than 3rd, and thats being generous.
  24. Ah yes, the learning to accept that Marlon Byrd will be our big offseason aquisition thread. Yay us.
  25. My bet is that 95% of Cubs fans would take Podsednik over Bradley in a heartbeat. Even if he cost more money and we had to pay all of Bradley's salary. Remember, there are many people who think the Cubs should just cut him. "Scotty Pods is tough and scrappy, just the kind of player we need." For Ankiel, I'd drop that to roughly 75%. And those are those stereotypical idiot Cubs fans who know nothing about baseball and go to the games just because its considere the trendy thing to do.
