  1. Muskat tweeted that Jackson is seeing a hand specialist in Chicago :banghead: :banghead: With a finger, whats the worst that it could be? I know those little bones can take a while to heal, but better than than a shoulder or wrist. Would Ha be the next in line to take his spot in AA if necessary, or would they just go with boring old James Adduci?
  2. I was hoping that theyd keep Castro at 6, and maybe work him up to 5th in due time. If hes goingto keep hitting, its usually better with guys in front of him.
  3. Are there any updates on Brett Jackson or McNutt?
  4. Who said they don't want Davis to start instead of Russell? People are saying that they hope Cashner doesn't lose his rotation spot because of Davis. Seemingly out the fear of him simply being bumped up and maybe being promised $900k out of necessity. The only thing is the options of Jay Jackson and Ramon Ortiz. Davis has never exactly been a star. If we were taking a 900K chance on a guy with potential to be great, then it would be one thing, but its on a guy whose ceiling is probably an OK 4-5 starter, and I think that Jay Jackson or even Ramon Ortiz could do that as well. In past years, the 900K wouldnt even register, but now that moneys supposedly a bit tighter, youd think theyd try one of the cheaper options. And I dont think theres a person out there who would prefer Russell to Davis.
  5. Maybe hes the 3 hitter Quades been looking for all along.
  6. Yeah, I really dont like our chance with this pitching matchup, but who knows. It was great to see the offense come to life. Maybe were on to something. Then again, the Padres scored 13 runs yesterday, so everyone has an offensive outburst here and there. It is great seeing Castro hitting the ball again. It was not great seeing Koyie Hill hit the ball if it means that Quade will start him again. This guy http://www.chrisoleary.com/projects/Baseball/Pitching/Images/Pitchers/JaimeGarcia/JaimeGarcia_2008_001.jpg vs. This guy http://www.cubby-blue.com/.a/6a00d83451fe4669e2014e87dfec3c970d-800wi Go Cubs! Lets win this series.
  7. Sounds like he's back to the hitting, error making machine we know and love.
  8. It would be more logical to save money and bring up Jay Jackson, someone with a future with this team. Unless there's nobody quite ready right now and they don't want to start the FA clock on a guy with an actual future. Jay's been having some real struggles for a while and probably isn't ready to step in and pitch well yet. I agree with you in part, but isn't 900K a lot of money for a guy to make 2-3 starts? I understand he adds pitcing depth afterword, but for that money, is he that much better than even Ramon Ortiz?

  10. this had better not be the same "family matter" that manny ramirez had His prized roosters going to be a daddy.
  11. Cubs sure are good when it comes to letting pitchers off the hook.
  12. More likely that Castillo is trade bait. Depending on what you consider a top starter, I don't think that Soto would land us such a creature. More likely a Jake Westbrook type.
  13. Nobody wants them to suck, however, if July rolls around and were like 7 games out and in 4th place, Id just as soon they know when to hold em, and know when to fold em, and by this, I mean rather than trying some desperate attempt to claw their way into contention by trading for some middling lefty for the bench that they trade any expiring contracts, like Fukuome, Pena, Grabow, and Aramis if they dont intend on picking up his option and get what they can.
  14. Not great news, but if Quade let's Castillo do the bulk of the starting and keeps Hill as backup, it won't be the end of the world.
  15. If Quade is an idiot, he'll give Hill the majority of the playing time, in which case, if Hill really cares about this team, he'll saw off a few more fingers.
  16. Hopefully he got booted again for argueing with the ump. Hopefully.
  17. What qualifications does he have? Why dont we ask Ernie Banks, Billy Williams or Andre Dawson of he turns it down? Maddux is widely known as one of the smartest baseball minds out there. And there are a lot of people out there who say the same thing about Steve Stone. Would you want him as our GM, although Im sure hed jump at the opportunity faster than Hawk can say .
  18. Bruce Miles tweeted that he thinks that both Davis and Castillo may be on their way to Chicago. I dont know how many times, or if at all we'll need that 5th starter between now and when Wells returns, but better him than Russell. Hill out the door or to the DL? :-k Sadly, no. Soto to the DL if it happens. I just hope that if this does happen, Castillo gets the bulk, or at least a fair share of the playing time. Our offense is not good enough to have a 2nd pitchers spot in the lineup.
  19. That's entirely possible. Whether by design or accident, the Cubs have definitely gone the quantity over high end quality route. That may work perfectly if we can go out and get a Pujols in free agency, or it could result in the type of team we saw a lot in the 2000s - very good teams that didn't have the superstar type player to put them over the top. You keep saying if we get Pujols as anything more than a possibility. Id love to get Pujols and build around him, but you seem much more optimistic about it than I do. I just hope that if they do go after Pujols that they decide early so that they dont put all their eggs in that basket, lose out on him, lose out on Fielder, and then were stuck with the MLB consolation prize FA equivalant of Carlos Boozer.
  20. Sadly, mediocre, boring teams dont get top 10 draft picks, rather somewhere between 15-20, which are used on guys like Hayden Simpson. mediocre, boring teams also dont have a July fire sale to beef up their farm systems.

  23. For the Home Town Chicago Cubs, it will be Matt Garza, who has been pretty damn good despite the fact that he has a nasty habit of alowing more runs than our un clutch singles hitting offense can usually make up for http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gkG8SjGSVTA/TZky_9fzsmI/AAAAAAAAOlk/PTMN4LaFjUk/s200/2011ToppsHeritage%2523485MattGarza.JPG For Ryan Theriot and the visiting Cardinals, it will be Jake Westbrook, who might not be much, but hes proof that the Cards unloaded Ryan Ludwick at the right time. The Cardinals offense is almost identical to The Cubs, except for the fact that they have this ability to hit the ball really hard, often not directly at an opposing defender, and sometimes with runners on base. http://www.christianindex.org/2770.westbrookfamily.jpg.image Aint the Westbrook family all cute and stripey? Like a family of Zebras.
  24. Problem is, wellington Castillo hasnt done much in Iowa, Max Ramirez is a Houston Astro, and Steve Clevenger probably projects to be slightly better than Koyie Hill. Maybe the can bring up Mike Brenley just to put a smile on pops face.
  25. Any reason that Doug Davis was pulled as aly as it was? Not that it matters if Wells and Cashner are as close to returning as they say.
