  1. can you really make that determination before knowing what Hak-Ju Lee becomes? or if it's best 'moves that seemed good at the time', Hawkins for Jerome Williams and Aardsma warrants consideration i can't wait for the 10 worst moves topic The 10 worst moves from Hendry probably wouldn't be that bad of a list. There are 3-4 really bad ones but the list would quickly fall off after that. The problem has been more about what hasn't been done and what moves haven't been made rather than what moves have been spectacularly wrong. Ive always said that what drives me the most nuts about Hendry isnt the big contracts, but the smaller ones to guys like Neifi, Miles, and Grabow. You cant tell me that you cant pull these players out of the farm system. If you do get those kinds of role players either as minor league contracts or ST invitees, or wait until the end of ST when other teams are unloading them, then fine, but theres no reason to give multi year contracts to those types of guys. Oh, and the Juan Pierre trade sucked too.
  2. Wells pitched a good game in the same tune that Quade is a good manager.
  3. This would be a good day for the Phillies to rest Utley, Howard, and Rollins.
  4. Even if Jon Jay is the real deal, they have Holliday under contract for how ever many years, but I cant see them re upping Berkman long term, so keeping Rasmus is probably the smart thing t do. However, this year, if they want to go in, the bullpen is where they need help, especially when their future rotation could be comprised of Wainwright, Garcia, Miller, and Martinez(yikes). This being said, I wonder if they insisted on trading Rasmus, they offer him the perennially offensively challenged Padres for Bell and Adams. That way, even if Bell skips town after this season, they still have Adams for a few more years.
  5. So from what I can gather from this thread, if Aramis is traded, either his 2012 option will vest or it wont.
  6. Is Richard Jones anything more than another Justin Bour who will turn into another Rebel Ridling who will turn into another Jake Fox?
  7. Seriously. Amazing that Hendry simply ignores all of those young, unemployed former Cy Young winners that are just looking for a team, and signs Dave Bush instead. Yes, we know that Tim Lincecum and Tommy Hanson arent out looking for work, but the point is theres no point signing any of this tripe at this point. This team is done. cooked. demised. Stick with what we have, and if they need someone else, just call back Casey Coleman. He might be garbage, but hes our garbage. I dont know how much theyd have to pay Bush if they called him up, but Im assuming its money that could be thrown at some of the lower profile, mid/late round draft picks. He may be younger than Davis, Ortiz, and Lopez, but the fact is that his ceiling is Dave Bush.
  8. Logan Watkins continues to light it up with a 2-5 with a 3B. His promotion might not be too far away. I cant see Nate Samson or Matt Camp blocking him.
  9. Does nobody bother to translate the memo to these guys that they WILL GET CAUGHT
  10. Vogelbach looks like one of those old timey players you sometimes see fast moving black and white clips of with ragtime music in the background. Now that we have him, Im sure that we'll get Baez, so its time to work hard toward Dunston and Maples, and whatever else we get, we get.
  11. Oh how I would love to not watch an Indians/Pirates World Series. I think that Game 7 would lose to Alf reruns on TV Land in the ratings.
  12. They're probably still hoping to sell Grabow to another team. Not going to happen. This year, hes been solid at getting lefties out,and not much else, yet Quade refuses to use him as a LOOGY. I think its to late to get anything for him. If we DFA him, someone should pick him up, but thats about it.
  13. Im just going to come out and say this, and it might not be a popular sentiment. Kerry Wood gave us some great years, but need to stop treating him like hes some kind of [expletive] Chicago sports icon. He had the stuff to be a legit ace, and when healthy, he looked like one, but that was too few and far between to treat him like some kind of legend. Yes, he was a huge part of the 2003 push, nobody will ever forget that 20 K performance. However, if he ever makes a hall of fame ballot, he wont make it past the first year, and Im not so sure his number will even be retired. He was injured far too often to hit his potential, and it was great to see him come back and give us a great deal as a 7th inning guy, but if someone gives us a good offer for him, we should take it, and if he really cares about the Cubs so much, he'll know its whats best, and if he wants to come back next year for another 1.5, Ill be happy to have him. Besides, if this is really his last year, wouldnt he rather go out a winner than on this debacle of a baseball team.
  14. Is it? It's still up in the air as to how 2B and 3B will play out for the Cubs next year, and Baker could play a big part in either. Beside rent-a-players like Fukudome and Pena, Baker is one of the few guys we have that other teams actually want, and could overpay for. I know theres a big ? at 3B next year, but if they just sign Aramis, it will be erased. Even if we don't, just let Vitters, DeWitt, Flaherty, LeMahiue, and Smith battle it out. I like what Bakers done for us for cheap, but we've seen far too many guys who made great backups and utility players flounder when they tried to make them everyday players. I cant see Baker ending up any better than Fontenot if made an everyday player, and our system has enough guys who could be utility middle infielders next year that if anyone shows interest in Baker, we should be listening very intently. Its BS that we have 2 guys in Wood and Baker that teams could be willing to overpay for and we dont want to move them for one year or another. But for the record, the source of this report is Ken Rosenthal, so, um, yeah.
  15. If only theyd kept Chris Carpenter around instead of sending him down again for the awful John Grabow. Carpenter has stuff and he has potential to be very good, possibly a set up man. John Grabow has a few million dollars coming his way.
  16. So you'd rather keep Darwin Barney then keep Matt Garza, Dempster, and ARam? WHATTTTTTT? Darwin Barneys aren't exactly hard to come by. In fact we produced one not too long ago. I forget his name but we traded him to the Dodgers last year. Of course I might be inclined to take the OP more seriously had he not put Wood in the keep pile.
  17. Very encouraged to see 3 solid outings in a row from Jay now. Solid night from all of the recent promotees, if that's a word, Ha 3-3 Szczur 2-5' as well as Jackson and Flaherty. McNutt was indeed skipped again for Searle, so it might be time to start wondering what's going on there.
  18. I'm glad you've come around on this. It's really disheartening to watch. do you not remember people booing the [expletive] out of jeff blauser and steve buechele? Todd Hundley too. And no, no one booed them. They were booing the brown guys standing next to them. They were saying Boo-chele and Boo-lauser.
  19. That sounds awfully ... early to feel that way. I think McNutt was a bit overhyped (at least, I think his ceiling was overhyped), but he was rushed a bit, has been banged up. He needs innings to work on consistency. I expect to see him in AFL to get some extra innings. I guess that should have been in green.
  20. Smart people here wanted to trade Marmol well before this. Whether its physical or mental, they just need to put him on the 15 Day for a breather. Its not like this teams going anywhere.
  21. What's going on is that he refuses to throw anything else. An offspeed pitch (even a great one like Marmol's) needs a decent fastball to be completely effective. The frustrating part is that Marmol HAS a very good fastball.
  22. According to MLBTR, for some strange reason, The White Sox have signed Doug Davis, presumably to a minors deal.
