    By the way, the guy who broke up the no-no: Josh Harrison. Remember him? Is it me, or when No hitters are broken up late in games, is it usually done by the Josh Harrisons of the world? Do we even remember the name of the guy who broke up Armando Gallargo's perfect game even though he really didn't?

    This is the best thing you've ever written, but I still disagree with it. Kerry did some great things for this organization, was a class act and was for a brief time the best or among the very best in the game. Cy Young is basically meaningless, and a big suck it to ASG appearances. We're not giving him a statue. Do it. Kerry Wood was a great guy, a fan favorite, and a star pitcher when he was healthy. Some organizations will retire numbers for being just that, but those , but as I mentioned in another thread, if you look over the list of Cubs retired numbers, they're all Hall of Famers. Hack Wilson and Gabby Hartnett's numbers arent retired. I think that Wood should be at least in line behind those 2.

    Koyie Hills are a dime a dozen, and as a spare catcher in AAA they're fine. Even as a backup catcher they're serviceable. It's when their manbager decides that they're a platoon guy or a semi regular when they become a problem. Next question.

    Judging by the very few numbers that the Cubs have retired, all Hall of Famers, it seems as though it's not something they take lightly. Perhaps the next number retired will be 13.

    If it were Marmol, he would have given up a home run. Maybe after walking 2 guys on 9 pitches.

    He was a great pitcher when healthy but was by no means Greg Maddux or Fergie Jenkins. He did great things for the community, but was by no means Roberto Clemente. Put me down as a no.

    NOBODY TELL HIM ABOUT THAT OTHER TEAM. I'M PRETENDING THERE WERE NO OTHER TEAMS. HE WAS JUST PLAYING MINOR LEAGUE BALL WITH MICHAEL JORDAN Which sadly reminded me of MJ's little stint with The Wizards.

    After the rough start, Szczur is at .257/.355/.361/.717. In May, he's .286/.364/.408/.772. I suspect that somewhere between the 2 lines lurks what we can ultimately expect from him.

    He pitched one of the greatest games of all time, second all-time in K/9, 10th all-time in H/9, was a key part of some of the best Cubs teams in recent times and was a fan favorite(which I think matters for team honors). Just because he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame doesn't mean he wasn't an all-time great Cub. If they retire Kerry Wood's number, we will be a further laughingstock. I would say the following people would have a better claim to get their number retired by the Cubs: Sammy Sosa Mark Grace Lee Smith And maybe: Carlos Zambrano Ryan Dempster Aramis Ramirez Ryan Dempster? Why don't we just throw Ted Lilly on there too. Definitely Aramis, as well as Grace, like him or not. Sosa too I guess, but put an asterisk next to it.

    Most pens are going to be a mess without a reliable end game. In 2011, we had Russell, Shark, Wood,Marshall, and Marmol for a formiddable bulpen. Carpenter and Cashner were also in and out. Russell is the only one left, leaving us to fill it up with a 35 year old journeyman, a failed top prospect, a promising young guy who's always had control issues as well as a carousel of various other flotsam. I simply think that it's time to just throw our best guys forword. Beliveau and Cabrera, should be first in line, and I wouldn't mind giving Jackson a chance.

    Andre Dawson and CJ Wilson and countless other examples of players choosing to go where they want to go. I bet I can come up with more examples of the highest bidders winning. Which means in this discussion, I'd have a higher percentage of being right that had the Cubs really, really wanted Pujols or Fielder, they'd have them right now. Did you not see the contacts that each was given? There aren't enough reallys in the world for them to have thought that to be a good idea.

    Sounds likely. Probably along with Wells. Personally, I'd prefer Beliveau and Cabrera just to have some interesting guys to watch though.

    Yup. Lalli took Volstad's spot so Soto's and Wood's spots will need to be filled. 2 bodies will be brought up for now, and then T. Wood Tuesday.

    You're the worst The 2008 Cubs would've won it I'm not implying this team is supposed to win, but it's still as painful as ever to watch. The 2008 Cubs did lose baseball games. At least 3 that I can remember :(

    With the lefty Cardenas and Joe Mather who has a miod .700s OPS, they go with Reed Johnson as their last chance for the 2nd game in a row. Bravo.

    Humber has a pitch count of 60 through 6 IP. Apparently he's really good against bad offenses.

    so far you're still wrong. You don't think that pitch to LaHair was intentional? i do think it was. but he didn't drill lahair. Good thing too. Humber would have woke up naked and upside down in some backwoods tool shed to LaHair wearing Humber's wife's face as a mask.

    A.J Pierzynski singles on a pop up to short stop Starlin Castro? How does that even work? With A.J.s speed, the ball must have popped into orbit before plopping down to the infield.

    Now take the lead and don't pitch to Konerko or Dunn and this should be an easy win.
